Chapter 10: A mistake

(Tana's POV)

My head is killing me and I feel terrible... What happened last night.

Even trying to get up was hard.

I looked down and I was wearing a light dress that I usually wear at night.

Then I looked to my right and there was someone sleeping on the same bed.

I panicked and tried to get up immediately and pulled the blanket to cover my body.

From the loud noise the person on the bed was about to wake up too.  from the hair color it was definitely the duke

"My head!!" he said.

He looked at me with a surprised face.

"My lady what happened here?".

My tears started falling and I cried loudly.

"Madam I'm so sorry please calm down" he said as he got up from the bed and tried to comfort me.

"Your-..."

"What my lady? I couldn't hear you properly"

"Your horns are gone" I replied as I continued to cry.

He looked as shocked as I was and walked towards the mirror slowly and took a look at himself.

Only to realize that his horns were gone and his emerald green eyes were shining brighter than ever.

Which meant the curse had passed on.

He ran to me and kept repeating the same sentence

"I'm sorry! I never meant for it to happen this way".

Then he added

"I'm not that kind of person. I still don't know how this happened"

I started to remember what happened last night and realized something.

"Where did you get that damn drink you brought with the divorce papers last night" I said angrily.

"Why? That drink was given to me by Camellia to drink with you to celebrate finally signing the divorce papers".

"I'm going to kill her!!" I screamed.

"Why? What's wrong?" He said ignorantly.

"I'm sure your wife put something in the drink!!".

My whole body was shaking and I kept my hand on my stomach the whole time.

The curse must be inside me

Now my innocent child who will be born in the future will have to suffer from an abnormal appearance for the rest of his life.

Then the Duke spent the whole day trying to calm me down and reassure me that he will take care of me no matter what.

Because I kept asking, he checked the drink and my guess was right.

The Duke seemed even more shocked than me to hear that the person he loved his whole life and thought was naive and innocent could think of such an evil plan.

"My lady, Camilia wasn't thinking straight because she was shocked by the curse I will make her apologize to you"

"I am sorry, I am to blame too" he said to me

"Please let me go... I will never tell anyone about your family's curse"

"You know I can't do that".

"But you said you would do anything I ask you!".

"This is to protect you, that's why I can't let you go".

"Do you know what will happen to you and the child if they see what he looks like when he is born."

"They will burn you at the stake in the city".

I can't let this happen to you and the child, so stay here and let me protect you."

Besides letting you leave, I will do anything you ask.

In the lower or middle class, punishing someone means beating them or not giving them meals.

But for the nobles, it simply means that they will prevent them from leaving the house and reduce or cut their monthly allowance, which is nothing compared to the crime that Camellia committed.

She also refused to apologize face to face and only wrote a letter.

I'm sure she probably had one of her maids write it and she didn't mean a word of it.

Now that I had finally fallen into her trap, I had to start working on a plan to protect myself and my child.
