The streets of Shibuya were alive with neon lights and the pulse of the city. Kiko, Yumi, and Taka moved through the crowd, weaving between groups of partygoers and street performers. Their mission was clear—find a drummer. But after visiting a few live music bars and asking around, they hadn't found the right fit.
Just as they were about to call it a night, they heard the rhythmic beat of drums echoing from the station plaza. A group of street musicians was finishing their set, the drummer hammering out an electrifying finish that left the small crowd cheering. after the crowd left, and the street musicians were packing up, Kiko stepped forward..
“Hey,” she called out “You guys know any good drummers in town?”
One of the musicians, a guitarist with dyed silver hair, smirked. “You’re looking for a drummer? Hiro’s the best in town.” He smiled with a smirk..
“But, he’s never joined a band. People have tried, but he always says no. Nevertheless, the guy has dark brown, slightly messy hair, with blond highlights and a lean, strong build, you´ll know exactly who he is when you see him.”
Kiko exchanged a glance with Yumi and Taka, determination flashing in her eyes. “Let´s go,” she said firmly with a smile and determination.
Taka shrugged. “Worth a shot.”
The musician chuckled. “He’s playing at Hallow Beat Club tonight. If you’re serious, go watch him first, and good luck.”
They arrived at the club, pushing through the dimly lit space to the front. The atmosphere buzzed with energy, and on stage, Hiro was setting up. When he started playing, the room came alive. His drumming was raw, powerful, and precise—he had the kind of presence that made people stop and watch. Kiko could feel her pulse syncing with the rhythm. This was their guy.
As the set ended and Hiro started packing up, Kiko, Yumi, and Taka approached.
“You’re amazing,” Kiko started. “We’re putting together a band, and you are exactly the type of drummer we have been looking for.”
Hiro barely looked up as he secured his drumsticks. “Not interested.”
Kiko leaned against the drum kit, unbothered by his brush-off. “You didn’t even hear us out.” she smiled.
“I don’t need to,” he replied. “I’ve been through this before. I have responsibilities. I play for fun, not for dreams.”
Taka raised a brow. “You’re really gonna waste that talent?”
Hiro finally looked up. “It’s not wasting it if I know what I’m doing. I work as a mechanic. Sometimes I do construction and I have two sisters that I´m taking care of on my own. My music isn’t a career—it’s a release.”
Kiko took a step closer, her voice steady. “I understand that you have work and responsibilities, and this is your way of letting off steam. But wouldn’t it be even better if you could follow your dreams, instead of just using music to escape?”
Hiro stared at her, his expression unreadable.
Kiko continued, her gaze locked onto his. “Since you’re still doing music despite everything, it must mean something to you, right? It must be something you really love. If you didn’t care, you would’ve quit already. But you didn’t.”
Hiro’s grip on his drumsticks tightened slightly.
Kiko softened her tone, but her words remained firm. “I don’t think it’s fair for you to teach your sisters to just swallow life and never chase what they really want. You’re showing them that dreams aren’t possible. But what if they are? What if this band is different?”
She pulled out a piece of paper, and a pen, as she wrote down she handed him her number. “Call me if you want to listen to our music—if you want to actually see what we’re about. If you don’t, no hard feelings. But at least hear us out before deciding. I promise you, we are not like the others.”
For the first time, Hiro hesitated.
There was something about the way Kiko looked at him—direct, unwavering, sincere. She wasn’t just trying to recruit him. She saw him. Not as a drummer to use, but as someone with talent, with potential. It was a look he hadn’t seen in a long time.
As Hiro walked home later that night, her words lingered in his mind. Maybe… just maybe… he should think about it more seriosuly.. like his heart was telling him to give a call, even tho he didn´t feel ready at all.
