Since then, Raymond’s weekly visits were not as regular as they used to be.
On one of Raymond’s visits, a servant sent an urgent message that Lady Camelia had fainted.
Even though I knew it was a lie, I couldn’t do anything about it and let him go to see her.
The next time he couldn’t make it to the weekly appointment because Camelia suddenly had a craving for the cookies that Raymond had once made for her when they were fifteen.
Raymond felt guilty and brought more gifts whenever he had the chance. But his visits became noticeably less frequent.
After the war, so many things needed repairing and work piled up on Raymond that even I was surprised that he kept trying despite his busy schedule and Camelia’s childish behavior.
But I didn’t care. In the first place, I wasn’t making the appointments out of love; I simply wanted to give my child a father.
As I neared the end of my pregnancy, everything became harder.
My feet were swollen and I couldn’t stand for long, now I know why my mother stopped after having two children even though people kept asking her.
One Friday night at 10pm, Raymond visited me.
Even though I had been carrying the baby for eight months, he looked even more tired than me.
There were dark circles under his eyes and his green eyes had lost their sparkle.
When he asked to see me I initially declined because I was getting ready to go to bed, but he said his visit would be short and he just wanted to meet me since it was supposed to be our meeting day.
I gave him a glass of water. He held the glass in his hand for a while and it seemed like his mind was somewhere else.
“How is Camelia?” I asked him trying to get him out of his daze.
Now he seemed to listen and drank the water.
“She’s fine but she’s vomiting a lot.”
It seems like she’s been having a hard time and that made me happy.
“Oh… I hope she gets better,” I said in a sarcastic way.
“I know you don’t like her and I can’t blame you. She’s changed so much lately that I don’t recognize her anymore,” he said with a sad expression.
Stupid man. He doesn’t realize that Camilla doesn’t need to act anymore.
Now that she’s carrying the official heir to the House of Barton.
At this point even if her relationship with Raymond deteriorates she can maintain her position.
Because once the baby is born, she’ll use him like a puppet to rule the duchy.
And Raymond is too kind to do anything about it.
But then again I can’t tell him the truth and hurt him
I didn’t want to break him even more than he already was
“It’s just mood swings, because of pregnancy don’t worry” I sighed.
He looked surprised that I was trying to comfort him.
“Thank you my lady”
“It’s okay you can call me by my name” I said
Although he looked very tired and his complexion was pale, he smiled beautifully
“Thank you Tana”
“Well, it’s getting late, it’s time for me to sleep”
“I’m sorry for keeping you awake for so long… Good night and sweet dreams to you and the baby”
He said in a pleased tone and then left.
It seems I made a huge mistake
Hearing him call my name in his sweet voice made my heart beat fast.
