At least everybody has been safe. Camp is busy when we return. Most of the teams have finished a little early and everybody seems keen to get their reports compiled and filed with Argus before heading back to Earth.
I’m well aware that the fence is up and working, but I want Argus to monitor things for another couple of days before I allow people to stay overnight. I’m keen enough myself to see some of the creatures of the night, but we need to know that we are safe first.
“Argus, we might be ready for a change of scenery. What are the possibilities for a different terrain tomorrow?”
<Very good, I think. There is a large area of what looks like slightly denser forest off to the north-east. We have mesh coverage up to the edge of it, but it would be nice to get inside and explore a little. It is still, apparently, open enough for a buggy.>
“Sounds good. Put Andy and myself down for that and come up with a grid for us. Anything else to report?”
<No, nothing unusual. The wildlife does seem to be coming back, but apart from another pack of those dog-like hunters that you both saw, nothing really new. Toby couldn’t get very far, so he has nothing new on the geology front.>
“Understood. We’re calling it a day and heading back. Everybody home before dark, please.”
Peter Quilliam’s Grandpa and Granddad changed the way that mankind viewed their place in an expanding universe and Peter is determined to continue their legacy of exploration.
With the impending arrival of Mona’s Isle at the planet Verus, he will need to be ready for anything that this new and unexplored world can throw at him and his small team of scientists.
Even before they can land the ship, however, their plans are cast into turmoil by the discovery of far more advanced life on the surface than they expected. Now the team needs to adapt and change to a different mission. Verus is no longer a colonisation target and the team need to decide whether it is even safe for scientific study or if it needs to be quarantined forever.
