Law inspired art today. And the term hunger bird comes from Neil Gaiman in his book "Anansi Boys"
"Hunger Bird of my Heart"
It claws at my heart, this pain of mine. Gnaws my bones in the night and leaves me starving for love in the mornings.
Just sitting here speaking with you, I flinch inwardly at its unexpected pecking, beak stabbing where I'm tender. It's not your fault but it makes me not want to talk to you.
Yet this pain holds a key. Greater light and knowledge. Greater empathy. It will become my broader, deeper, fiercer love.
I cannot escape this pain. It is mine now for life. But unmasking the pain will bestow me with all its gifts.
Yet the silken ties to freedom seem out of reach sometimes. Delicate, those threads wax and wan like the phases of the moon. A soft touch from you, my distant friend, is all I need in order to find the string and follow it home.
