Trapped at Home With the Male Leads

Prologue

Ultimately, the world came to an end. It arrived much earlier than had been expected.

Beneath my feet, there was a puddle of blood.

Blood?

A horrible screech carried above the din.

“Ack! Help! Someone, help!”

The cries of people pleading for help intertwined in the air. Only then did I notice the village, which was in complete turmoil. The streets were filled with people, frightened out of their wits. They were running away from something. Only yesterday, the village had been a bustling market town.

One of the fleeing people knocked into me, sending me sprawling in the middle of the street. And behind the crowd, an eerie-looking monster bore down on frightened rabble.

That’s right.

Although it was hard to believe, there was a monster.

Roar!

The creature opened its mouth wide. In a flash, multiple people were gobbled up, disappearing behind the densely packed teeth.

“F*ck.”

Many people had been mauled to death by monsters, before turning into monsters themselves. But amidst the chaos, my eyes were drawn to one place.

What’s he doing over there?

In the middle of the street, a man in a police uniform was helping people escape as he fought the monsters with everything he had. Before I could think, I shot up to my feet and ran into the village. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see a weapon shop, its glass door shattered. Avoiding the terrified locals, I entered the weapon shop. I quickly scanned the place and picked out an axe, one which I could wield with ease, and took it with me.

Without mercy, I swung the axe down, catching a monster as it hurtled toward me. The monster’s green blood sprayed across my face. Growling, another monster to my side lifted its head. On its face were four eyes, each the size of my fist. I locked eyes with the beast and froze. I didn’t want to provoke it. Its pupils repeatedly contracted and expanded, focusing in on me. I continued to stare at the creature, refusing to even so much as blink, watching and waiting for an opportunity to slam my axe into its skull.

Just then, a pair of stiff black combat boots came into view, striding confidently through puddles of blood. A gunshot echoed, and I looked up. A tall man entered into my field of vision, and the four-eyed monster before dropped to the ground, felled by a single gunshot.

“Damn it, there’s no end to them.” The man swore, taking a quick look around. Then, his gaze turned to me. “Are you hurt?”

I raised my head and examined him. While no one else was aware of it, I was certain. This man could not die here. He had to survive, at any cost.

Eden Duncan Lancaster.

He was the heroine’s older brother, and his body contained antibodies for the virus. Eden wore close-fitted navy clothes—the police uniform. His blond hair was neatly combed back, and his hat was adorned with a golden star. The neatness ended there. The well-fitting clothes and coiffed hair were both caked in blood.

Our gazes met. His eyes—that chilling blue—were terrifying.

There’s no time for this!

I quickly took hold of his hand, causing Eden’s eyebrows to rise in question.

“Come with me. We need to get out of the village,” I said.

“While I agree that this situation is sh*tty, there might still be some survivors.”

I had expected that response. After all, Eden was a man who firmly believed in his duty as an officer.

That’s why I came this far, I said inwardly as I heard another monster roar.

The number of monsters seemed to be slowly increasing, and at this point, it was difficult to make out any survivors. The creatures outnumbered the people several times over. The mass of monsters was starting to occupy the village, and they were blocking almost all the roads. It was clear that it wouldn’t be easy to escape to the outskirts of the village.

If we don’t leave now, we’ll be cut off.

“I’m sorry,” I said before slamming the handle of my axe against Eden’s head and knocking him out.

Stronger than most people, I swung Eden’s limp form over my shoulders and ran. I managed to dodge the monsters that were rushing at us from multiple directions. Before long, I escaped the outskirts of the village and ran up a nearby hill toward my destination.

Gasping for breath, I finally arrived at a large gate. I rushed in, slamming the gate behind me and practically throwing Eden onto the ground. Only after fastening the gate’s bolt did I let relief wash over me.

Graaaahhh! Grrr! Grrr!

Outside, the cries of monsters filled the air. The beasts slammed their bodies against the gate repeatedly, the dull thuds adding to the racket. I peeked through the gap.

“Damn it. It’s impossible to leave.”

The number of monsters outside seemed to be increasing, newcomers joining the beasts that had chased us from the village. Fortunately, I had prepared a sturdy barricade in advance, so they would be unable to make their way inside. However, the trade-off was that I could not make my way outside.

Eden and I were trapped. The moment he woke up and realized the ridiculous situation we were in, he might very well try to kill me.

Whatever. For the time being, I’ve saved the world.

And to do so, I had kidnapped the savior of the world before he could die. In order to understand how this had happened, one had to look back to three weeks earlier.
