Ironically, in the large new school with most people she'd seen in one place, Maeze sat alone. The way-too-grand-for-a-school cafeteria was packed to the brim, but even if they didn't have a place to sit, the student's didn't dare sit at her table. Surprisingly, the elf girl, the one that she'd encountered at the previous 'shenanigans', was sitting at the 'popular' table. It held the rich, the children of the highly esteemed and most powerful witches, and the top of the school magic users.
Just as she was looking, the elf girl moved to Maeze's table, sparking murmurs from all the students, and protests from the others at the 'popular' table.
"It's not what you think." That was the first thing that the elf girl told Maeze at her table. She hesistated, but quickly regained her composture.
"I wasn't going to say anything," Maeze replied. The elf girl quietly sat beside her, ignoring the attention from the others.
"My name is Alaura Asteria. Let's dorm together."
"Congratulations," one of the head witches said. "You two are the first people to register for a dorm." Maeze sat paitently, still slightly confused about Alaura's sudden change in demeanor.
As if she read her thoughts, Alaura spoke from the chair beside her. "Like I said, I could've handled that myself, but I have to admit, what you did out there was... pretty amazing." Maeze smiled. She's not always rude, she thought.
"Miss Valencia! I was just about to call you on the MSS (Magic Snake System, basically the PA system but magic). Perfect timing. After you're done, please meet me in my office." Of course, that was Mr. Oden. The newfound hapiness from finding a friend was immediately washed away and replaced with an overwhelming feeling of anxiousness. She'd just made a new friend! She couldn't leave now...
"Are you okay?" Alaura looked at her with an unconcerned face, as if the situation was perfectly fine, and there was nothing wrong. Maeze decided to take a deep breath and be confident, like Alaura seemed. After all, Mr. Oden didn't seem angry at all.
So, once the dorm registration was complete, Maeze felt surprisingly calm while entering Mr. Oden's room. She tried to keep her calmness up, but it wavered slightly when she realized that Ms. Ren wasn't here to help her. But, Ms. Ren had done enough. She knew that she had to face this on her own.
Fortunately, Mr. Oden spoke up before she could say anything. "I'd like to know why you hadn't mentioned your friend, Miss Asteria."
Maeze raised her eyebrows. That was the least likely thing that she thought would ever come out of his mouth.
"Excuse me?"
"She came to me, just before lunch, and told me that you shouldn't be suspended. Then, she told me the full story."
Finally, Maeze spoke up. She told him everything that happened, and was talking a lot, in an animated manner. After all, being calm and not speaking up could only last so long for someone like Maeze.
"I know. I'll be more responsible next time."
"Hopefully there isn't a 'next time'. You gave the head witches quite a scare. I'm letting you off with a stern warning. Now, go on. Go enjoy the school that you so desperately wanted to stay in."
"Thank you!"
Halfway out through the door, Mr. Oden said something.
"And Miss Valencia?"
"Yes?"
"You'd better thank that teacher of yours."
