=== Erato===
I cross my legs as I finally breathe comfortably in the passenger side of Canan's car.
I'm not dead, I'm not dying, I'm safe that is for the time being there is no saying whether Canan has all the capability to fulfill what he says he will be able to do but still I have no doubt he has all the potential he just needs to dig down and find it. Find his reason for loving music as profoundly as his mother loves attention.
I look over to him. He is the epitomy of Aphrodite's beauty and it is only more prevelent now that I am aware of the truth of the matter. His hands fiddle as he starts the car then he glances in his rear view mirror and finally he catches me staring. I don't look away and neither does he.
He gulps then flutters his eyelashes in contemplation. "I'm sorry."
I'm taken aback at first but then realize he's referring to lying about who Aphrodite was to him. Although I can say that what he has done is okay. To me it's not. She, the one who terrorized, tortured the Gods and mortals around us with the idea of love, is a crime she has not attoned for and I know she never will. Although I understand his lack of understanding for this I without a doubt also know that he understands that.
"We need to revise our contract." I mumble instead.
His eyebrows furrow just a little at my response but I'd rather improve our contract to guarntee that she can not interfere with mine or his emotions then continue to argue on whether I should forgive him for the lies or not.
"Now?" He asks in a slightly higher tone.
I nod. "Right now."
He leans back in his chair and crosses his arms as he stares out the front window of the car. "How do we improve a contract that has already been made?"
I purse my lips in silent thought before I speak with a voice that portray unsderstanding of just what I was going to do. "We make another one."
He does nothing to hide his surprise. "We can do that?"
I'm silent for a moment as I also wonder if any of my sisters have done this before. Once, Calliope had to have it done although the details of how and why it had to be done are a bit hazzy as mother wanted to keep it buried from the other girls. I have no idea why.
I'm silent for too long as Canan chimes in. "You seem to be recollecting something which may prevent us from doing so."
"No, not at all." I squint my eyes as I think. "We can make contracts with multiple people, why wouldn't we be able to stack what goes onto the contract?"
His eyes narrow as he leans over the center counsle. "Have you done that before?"
I'm silent for too long again.
"So no." He catches on quickly.
I sigh and tap my foot. "My sister has done it once. I don't know the details of why or how it happened but the problem is I can't revoke a contract with you right now. I'm too weak it would kill me."
He sighs leaning back as he crosses his arms. "Can't you just trust me?"
I lean into the seat as well. "I want to but how can I."
He stares at his lap for a moment then has an idea. "I have a song," He says very slowly. "One which I began to compose and almost completed but lets say that you and I can release it as a single then maybe we can get you enough energy to revoke the contract and reinstate a new one."
I roll my eyes. "Easier said than done. In order for that to work we need a small fan base that can hear and actually enjoy your music which we have yet to build."
He pulls up his phone. "You know you say that but I think you're forgetting one major detail."
I turn my head to him his glasses glistening in the light of his phone screen. "And what is that?"
He holds the screen to my face and it takes me a moment to realize what he's showing me.
"I'm Aphrodite's son." He says with a sense of pride that I had yet to hear him use when speaking of his mother. "I attract people without trying."
I'm more than astounded to see that Canan has over fifteen thousand followers on his instagram. Thats two thousand more then Calliope the socialite who rarley posts any picture.
I furrow my brows. "How do you have so many."
He looks at his phone and begins scrolling down his posts. "You know I wonder that too." He turns off his phone to meet my eyes. "I suppose some of it is from my mother, my siblings and my own handsome face."
I roll my eyes then mumble. "That is something that remains consitant through time, humans liking to beauty."
He falls silent as he considers my words. I think he's realizing the grand amount of time I have existed but he does nothing to show if I'm right or not about my assumption.
He clears his throat. "In this situation we are fortunate as this means that I will defintley have people like my music."
"Your'e optimistic."
"Have to be."
I slouch in the chair. "Now that those problems are solved we still need to have you fall in love with composing again."
"How do you propose we do that?"
"We start at the beginning. What made you love music in the first place."
He's silent as he recollects his past, his eyes becoming distant in thought. Then I feel it like a string attached to my chest going taut as he comes to remember why.
"My mother," He mumbles softly. "She used ask me to play the piano for her and in doing so she said I filled our boring house with joy."
I tilt my head as I can see a blurry vision of his mother showing Canan off at some party. His small hands grace across ivory keys like a swift butterfly. I close my eyes now in the seat of the piano watching as I take the place of Canan, gentle hands reaching for keys hastily and precisley.
I open my eyes and ponder as I think. "What about the song you showed Euterpe and I?"
He fiddles his fingers uncomfortably. "That was inspired off of heart break"
I give a soft sigh feeling more hopeless. I can't have him go through another heart break just to finish writing a good song.
"Alright," I nod softly. "What inspired the song you have yet to finish."
He pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "Another song I heard."
I slouch even lower in the chair. "I'm grasping at straws here Canan." I sigh and close my eyes as I recollect my thoughts and gather all the information he's given so far. "Okay here's what well do," I sit up straight. "Tomorrow after practice were going to finish that song you've been composing."
His brows furrow. "How?"
I stick my chin up with pride. "I am going to inspire you."
"That sounds suspicious."
I throw my hands up. "You're already in a contract with me, at this point the only one that needs to keep being suspicious is me, oh great child of Aphrodite."
He has no comeback for that besides an annoyed expression.
"What?"
He clenches his jaw as he turns to face the front window sending the car into drive. "You sure are lively now for someone who was about to die."
"Well Gods, maybe it was because, I dont know, I was dying!"
He releases a small sigh then grins a smile that sends me on edge. "And who do you think was the one to save you from death?"
I scoff. "Not you, I would have found a contract."
"In that short amount of time, I higly doubt it."
I press a finger to my lip trying to think of a comeback but nothing comes to mind.
I release a slow long sigh.
"Love." He mumbles with a soft chuckle.
I tilt my chin up and glance at him in bewilderment. "What?"
He chuckles softly. "How are you the Muse of love poetry."
"I'm not sure what you mean?"
He glances to me then puts on his blinker. "Your sister, Euterpe gives more of the feeling of inspiration for love poetry as she's more welcoming and outgoing."
I scowl. "Whoever said love was meant to be kind and welcoming?" He thinks but I continue before he can add to his reason. "Love is a battle of understanding and sharing ones self. To become selfless and to happily concede to the one you love but to also fall victim to the pains of humanity due to the ability to care profoundly for someone or something." I sigh. "Love is not a walk in the park Canan. It is a boat on a sea which you cannot escape there are good and bad days but in the end it is another day."
He blinks slowly and delibertley. "I suppose you are right." He mumbles.
"And I suppose you truly are Aphrodite's child if you find that exterior expressions are personifications of love."
He scowls but says nothing more for I have won.
