Vasilis is not willing to do like the guys who discover a revolutionary method about something just to sell courses later, he wants to keep the secret just for himself, so he is absolutely irreplaceable, if you teach your tricks to the next generation very soon you will be fired by someone younger.
And I'm pretty sure he also instructed Atlas not to teach how to make the towers work, so the people of that region will still feel dependent on the royal family, even though they have their own "archmage".
