Yuuki sank onto the smooth wooden floor of the dojo, his breath coming in heavy pants. Sweat trickled down his forehead, pooling at his collar as he attempted to calm his racing heart. The exertion had pushed him to his limits, and pressing his legs against the floor, he felt a sharp tug of soreness radiate from his injured leg. Memories of the previous encounter flickered through his mind, causing him to grimace slightly as the discomfort reminded him of his recent struggles.
As Yuuki sat in silence, lost in thought while watching Ryu continue his sparring session, a sudden figure emerged from the periphery of his awareness, interrupting his introspection. A young man with a bright and confident demeanor stepped toward him, a friendly smile spreading across his face. "Hey, you're Yuuki, right?" he said, his voice warm and inviting.
Yuuki's eyes narrowed slightly, puzzled by the stranger's familiarity. "Umm, yeah... who are you?" he replied, his tone cautious.
The young man, appearing to be in his early twenties, extended his hand in greeting. "I'm Ken, I work with Ryu. I'm one of his IT guys," he explained, his smile never wavering. Yuuki's frown deepened, curiosity getting the better of him. "How did you know my name?" he asked, his eyes scanning the surrounding area as if searching for an explanation.
Ken nodded toward one of Ryu's guards stationed nearby, who was observing the sparring session with an air of quiet vigilance. "The guard mentioned you while we were setting up," he said, his tone casual. Yuuki's gaze followed Ken's nod, and he caught the guard's eye, the pieces falling into place. He nodded, a look of understanding crossing his face. "No wonder," he replied, his voice a little softer.
As he turned his attention back to Ken, his interest was piqued. "Do you come here often?" he asked, his eyes locking onto Ken's.
Ken's expression turned relaxed, his tone easygoing. "About once a month, we gather for these sparring sessions," he explained. "It's like a hobby, really. Everyone here is great instructor, and it's always a challenge to keep up with them." The conversation flowed easily, and Yuuki found himself drawn to Ken's warm and affable nature, his initial wariness giving way to curiosity about this new acquaintance.
As Yuuki settled into a more comfortable position, he couldn't help but be drawn in by the sense of camaraderie that filled the dojo. The air was still electric with the energy of the training session, and he found himself captivated by the intense focus of the participants. "It's pretty intense," he observed. "I can see why you'd want to keep at it."
Ken, sensing an opportunity to probe deeper, leaned in with a hint of playful curiosity. He was aware that Yuuki was, in essence, Ryu's captive, but he was eager to see how far he could push the conversation without crossing any boundaries. "So, how did you end up here?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with mischief as he waited for Yuuki's response.
Yuuki's instincts kicked in, and he hesitated, casting a cautious glance at Ryu, who was still fully immersed in his sparring session. The thought of revealing too much sent a shiver of apprehension through him, and he was careful not to trigger Ryu's authoritarian side again. After a moment's pause, he offered a carefully crafted response, his voice steady and measured. "Um, I'm just one of Ryu's friend's sons. He sent me here to train," he said, the words feeling like a fragile balancing act between truth and deception. “Geez I could come out with a better excuse” he thought.
Ken's smirk was instantaneous, his eyes glinting with amusement at Yuuki's evasive answer. "Well then... enjoy your stay," he replied, his tone laced with a hint of sarcasm, as if he knew there was more to the story than Yuuki was letting on. Just as Ken was about to turn away, Yuuki's hesitation was palpable, and Ken's curiosity was piqued once more. He paused, his eyes locked onto Yuuki's, waiting to see if he would elaborate or leave the conversation at that.
“Wait, can I borrow your phone for a while?” he blurted out, the words spilling forth before he could fully think them through.
Ken raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile playing on his lips. “Oh, why is that?”
In that instant, Yuuki felt Ryu’s gaze sharpen, piercing through him with an intensity that sent a chill down his spine. The awareness of Ryu’s watchful presence was overwhelming, and the fear the situation gripped him. “Ah, never mind,” Yuuki stammered, backtracking as he felt the weight of Ryu’s eyes upon him.
Ken looked at him with curiosity, sensing the tension that had surged in the room. “Are you sure? It’s not a problem if you-”
“No, really. It’s fine,” Yuuki interrupted, forcing a smile even as he felt the embarrassment flood back. The moment turned awkward, the playful banter shifting abruptly into an uneasy silence.
With a slight nod, Ken shifted his weight, deciding to respect Yuuki’s decision. “Alright, if you say so. Just let me know if you change your mind.”
As Ken stepped away, Yuuki felt frustrated, unsure of where to direct his feelings. The dojo was still filled with an air of camaraderie, but Ryu’s cold demeanor loomed over them, casting shadows over the budding connections Yuuki hoped to make.
He resumed his position on the floor, catching his breath while watching Ryu spar. The tension might have ebbed slightly with Ken’s presence, but Yuuki knew that navigating this shifting landscape would take careful consideration and he need to balanced the desire for connection with the reality of his current situation.
As the sparring session came to an end after an intense hour, Ryu surveyed the dojo, his presence commanding and cool. He watched as the other trainees bowed and began to disperse, their faces flushed with exertion, a testament to the hard work they had just put in. With a subtle gesture, Ryu indicated that they could leave, his demeanor relaxed yet authoritative.
As the room emptied, Ryu approached Yuuki, who was sitting on the floor, his body language screaming exhaustion. The weight of their intense session hung in the air, and Yuuki's expression reflected a complex mix of fatigue, determination, and a hint of vulnerability. Ryu's gaze swept over Yuuki's form, his eyes narrowing slightly as he took in the boy's worn out state.
Ryu's eyes locked onto Yuuki's leg, where he was rubbing a visible bruise. His expression remained stoic, but a flicker of concern danced in his eyes. "I'll arrange for a doctor to come and check on your leg later," he said, his voice firm but laced with a subtle undertone of worry.
Yuuki's immediate response was to downplay the injury, "That's really not necessary, it will be okay soon."
But Ryu's keen eyes had already picked up on the telltale signs of pain and discomfort. his voice took on a slightly sharper tone, "Judging by the looks of it, it doesn't seem okay. And you're still in pain." The unspoken admission hung in the air that he had been pushing him hard earlier.
Yuuki's thoughts swirled, but the words that formed in his mind didn't quite make it to his lips. Why do you care so much? beside it’s your fault to begin with! The question echoed in his mind, a silent accusation that he couldn't quite articulate.
Yuuki looked up, breaking the silence. “Ryu, what’s going to happen now?” he asked, the question hanging between them, filled with implications he couldn’t quite articulate. He was unsure of what this meant for their dynamic moving forward and how Ryu intended to address the journey they were on together.
Ryu's expression remained impassive, his eyes cold and unyielding, revealing nothing of his inner thoughts. He stood there, his face a mask of stoicism, as he casually wiped the sweat from his forehead to the back of his neck with a small towel. The gesture seemed almost deliberate, a calculated move to irritate Yuuki further. The air was thick with tension as Yuuki's frustration simmered just below the surface, waiting to boil over.
Before Yuuki could voice his frustration, Ryu cut him off with a dismissive wave. “Shut up and go back to your room,” he ordered firmly.
Yuuki’s eyes widened in disbelief. “No! I don’t want to stay in that room forever,” he retorted, a fire igniting within him. He was tired of feeling trapped, of being confined to a space that felt suffocated.
Ryu's expression shifted, his eyes glinting with a sharp, piercing intensity that was both captivating and unnerving. A sly, teasing smile played on his lips as he drawled, “Ah, I get it. You want to stay in the same room with me, is that it?” The cool confidence in his tone sent a jolt of mixed emotions through Yuuki.
Yuuki's jaw dropped, his face flushing with indignation as he stuttered, "T-that's not what I meant at all!" He couldn't believe Ryu was twisting his words, refusing to take him seriously. "I just want to be able to move around freely, to have some sense of autonomy," he insisted, his voice rising in frustration. A faint pout formed on his lips as he struggled to conceal the embarrassment and annoyance. There was a challenge in Ryu’s gaze that was hard to ignore, a mix of danger and allure, and it left him feeling unsettled.
Ryu’s expression transitioning back to a more serious tone, “You say you want freedom, yet you’re unwilling to accept the responsibilities that come with it. I suppose we’ll have to work on that, too,” he said, his piercing gaze locked onto Yuuki, scrutinizing every nuance of his reaction. “Don't think I've forgotten about your little stunt earlier” he added, alluding to Yuuki’s attempt to make contact with the outside world through one of the workers.
Yuuki’s heart raced as he fumbled for words. “Okay, okay, I’m sorry, but I didn’t even take his phone,” he protested, trying to defend himself.
Ryu replied, “That’s because you’re under my watch.” Ryu continued, his tone unwavering. “I’ll let it slide this time. You may walk around, but only in the presence of a guard.”
At Ryu's words, Yuuki's expression brightened slightly, a glimmer of happiness flickering in his eyes. The thought of moving freely through the house, even with the presence of guards, was infinitely better than being confined to his room. While the idea of having someone follow him felt somewhat uncomfortable, it also signified a small victory in regaining his sense of independence.
"Great, that's cool," Yuuki replied, a cheeky smile spreading across his face, effortlessly dispelling the frustration that had clouded his features earlier. The transformation was nothing short of captivating, and Ryu found himself momentarily entranced by the sight of Yuuki's happiness.
As the boy's smile illuminated his face, Ryu was struck by its profound impact. He realized that he had never seen Yuuki smile with such unbridled joy before, and the sight was nothing short of mesmerizing. His sharp, protruding canine teeth that glimmered in the light added an extra layer of charm to Yuuki's already striking foxlike features, making him appear even more endearing. The smile was radiant, capable of dispelling the darkness that often-shrouded Ryu's own inner world, leaving an indelible mark on his gloomy inner self.
"Now, I have other matters to attend to," he said. "Let's me see if I can arrange to have dinner together tonight." The suggestion was casual, yet it held a deeper significance, as if Ryu was seeking to prolong the fragile connection that had been forged between them.
With that, they parted ways, each carrying a sense of hope for the evening ahead. Ryu felt a flicker of anticipation as he stepped away, contemplating the positive change that Yuuki’s presence had sparked within him.
