Chapter 6

“You never said it was a giant colosseum!” Jackson Yelled,

“Well it had to be, magic couldn’t protect Elve’s forever and we were running out of magic users fast. So we created Elflem, one of the greatest cities to ever be made by the Elves.” The Soldiers approached them,

“What is your business here?” Sylvan approached the soldiers,

“We’re here for trading, schooling, and missioning.”

“May we see your mission badge?”

“Unfortunately this is an unofficial mission.” Sylvan explained.

“Then you are only here on two accounts. Trading and schooling.” Said one of the guards,

“Understood.” Said Sylvan.

The platform started to lower itself into the ground, and it showed a massive tunnel leading underneath the wall. Sylvan started going into the tunnel under the wall, and everyone else followed. Samuel caught up with Eric, Charlie, and Carlene.

“Hey, is this how it usually works?” Samuel asked,

“Oh, ya Sylvan knows thousands of people in Elflem. He used to live here until he became a traveling trader.”

“He did?”

“Yep, and he’s helped people come here for years. I’m guessing that's why he’s helping you.”

As they walked into the tunnel a strong gust of wind hit Samuel, and when they made it through Samuel couldn’t believe his eyes. The city was giant with spiraling levels going down and all along the top ring were shops and markets, everywhere he looked there were lanterns and floating lights. Samuel could only wonder what this place looked like at night.

“Alright everyone, time to hit the shops!” Sylvan said aloud.

“Sylvan we used a bunch of our money at the first town to buy our weapons.” Samuel said, Sylvan chuckled a bit.

“Ya, I know. I have enough money for all of you, just give me a second.”

While they were waiting Samuel decided to take in the sights of Elflem, it was a glorious city more amazing then New York. It was just so much more Magical.

“Alright! Here you all go, 20 each.” Sylvan gave 20 Elflem coins to each of them,

“We meet back here in 2 hours, hear me. Also stay together please, and don't get into trouble.”

With that Sylvan walked away and into the crowds, Samuel hadn’t noticed it before but being that there were so many people in Elflem that crowds probably weren’t even crowds.

Charles came in front of everyone. “Well you guys ready to find some cool things? I know all the stores that sell magic items, useful for any magician.” Samuel got excited just from those words,

“Let's do it! Where is it?” Jackson asked.

“It’s just along the line just make sure to stay together in the crowds.” Charles said.

Charles led them through the entire crowd and was able to lead them through the main part of the crowd,

“Welcome to the magic district! Or the main one at least.” Charles said,

“You really know your way around Elflem don't you?” Jackson asked.

“Well ya, I grew up here. I know all of Elflems secrets.” Charles explained,

“If you're looking for enchanted items I suggest over there, but if you're looking for scrolls, I suggest over there.” Charles was just pointing at everything, and Samuel was trying to take it all in.

“Wow what’s this?” Jackson asked, he was looking at a gauntlet that was glowing.

“Excuse me, how much is this?” Jackson asked the store owner,

“Oh that, it's just some old gauntlet. You want it kid? 10 copper” Jackson paid the man, and put on the gauntlet.

“Thanks.” Jackson said, all the man did was grunt.

“So I have a question, the captain that captured us in the forest. He said there were psychics who created prophecies. Are there any famous ones?” Samuel asked, Carlene.

“Of course, there's The Legend of the Four Knights, The Great Kight, The Master of the Griffins, The Master Knight, The Hero of Marshlake, The God Speaker, and there were thousands of others. Some haven't even happened yet.”

They kept walking, Jackson admiring his newly owned gauntlet that he wouldn’t stop talking about.

“Look, enchanted Items!” Carlene said, she made everyone come to look at them.

“I’m definitely taking that!” she grabbed a bracelet that was a strange green color.

“5 copper please.”

“Here you go! yes!” Carlene turned around to look at everyone, “This thing can save your life.” When the others were looking at the stores around them Samuel got a glimpse of light in his eye, he moved to the side to see a strange necklace. He went over to look at it,

“Excuse me, what is this?” Samuel asked, the storekeeper looked at it.

“An interesting necklace. It was just on a rock one day, and it was lost somehow. It’s not much, just 3 copper.” Samuel pulled out 3 coins

“here you go.”

“And here to you, may I ask why you want it? I don't think it does much.”

“That's fine, thank you sir!” Samuel had no idea why he bought the necklace; it just felt familiar.

“Hey kid, nice gauntlet can I have it?” A voice came from behind Samuel,

Samuel looked behind him to see four people surrounding Jackson

“Hey Sam! I need some help!” Samuel started running over to him. One of them pushed him away when he got close enough,

“Get out of here.” He said,

“Get away from my friend!” Samuel said.

“Why should we? What do you got against us?” He said.

Samuel suddenly felt nothing; he ran right into the person only to phase right through him. He looked down at himself and realized the necklace he’d bought himself was glowing. It didn’t matter, what did matter was saving Jackson. When Samuel got there the Necklace stopped glowing.

“Get away from Jackson!” Samuel said, they all backed away a bit.

“Samuel? How’d you get here?”

“I ran, what else.” All of them backed away a bit, one of them pulled out a wand, two more pulled out daggers, and the last one pulled out a Kunai Knife.

“You want to mess with us like that?”

“You think you can mess with us like that?” I responded.

Jackson pulled out his gauntlet, “I actually get to try this out!”

“I don't think they know how powerful we are.” Samuel nodded at Jackson, “You ready?”

“You bet!” Jackson pulled out his combat knife, and Samuel pulled out his wand and shortsword.

Jackson immediately attacked out of them and slashed his arm, they retaliated by attacking back with a dagger cutting Jackson. Samuel tried to attack one of them, but missed.

“Jackson! Samuel!” somebody was calling their names.

“Over here!” Samuel yelled,

“We’re coming!”

“Ha! Calling your friends to help you, pathetic!” Samuel looked the person in the eye,

“Just trying to make it even.” Samuel smiled, and a blast of energy hit the person talking.

Samuel looked up to see Eric, “How do you get yourselves into these situations!” All Samuel did was shrug. Carlene and Charles came up next to him.

“Carmola!” Samuel said, and a field of energy came up around them and the people attacking them. Carlene and Charles jumped down into the force field, and Eric flew down.

“You all made a big mistake.” Eric said. He shot a fire ball at one of the people and knocked them into the forcefield. Then Jackson smacked one with his gauntlet, they were pushed against the shield and didn’t get up. Charles brought the shield down. Samuel stepped closer to the last two, and they both looked at eachother and started to run away. Then Eric blasted one while they were running away. Carlene and Charles ran next to Jackson with Samuel. Eric looked at Samuel and nodded, then came by Jacksons side.

When they got back to where Sylvan said to meet back up, they were all feeling better and Jackson kept talking about how much he loved his gauntlet again. When Sylvan came along he greeted them.

“How was your Elflem experience!” Everyone looked at eachother.

Jackson smiled at Samuel and said, “Eventful.” Sylvan looked at them suspiciously,

“I’m going to take that as a good sign, now we must go. I promised to get you three to school an hour ago.” He started his way out and they all followed, “And you two. We’re going to a museum!”

Sylvan made them go around the circular structure of Elflem, “We’re just going to the Eastern side, then I’ll get you to school!” He stopped walking and made Samuel bump into him,

“You ok?”

“Ya I’m fine. But do you think this school would allow for human students? It’s just a thought.”

“I don't know, like I said I never really paid any attention in school. Why rethinking going back home?”

“No, maybe coming back though. If I decide to come back after we go home, will you be there to pick us up?”

“Sure, why not. You guys aren't that bad, you're funny and it gets lonely when traveling.”

Suddenly a whole wall opened up to create another tunnel that they could get out of.

“Then maybe we will come back, we know where the portal is.”

“Good I’ll be there, same spot. Are you ready to see a magic school?”

I looked at him, and smiled.

“You bet.”

When they got out of Elflem the first thing Samuel could see was the sun, but when they got out of the tunnel he saw a giant campus with trees surrounding it. There was one big building in the center, which was ginormous. The building had what looked like three floors, but it arched at the top to create a tower-like structure. The walkway to the building was amazing as well, it had bushes and trees with what looked like stars in them.

“This is the magic school?” Samuel asked, Eric came beside him as they walked.

“Yes, quite a campus right? They say it was made of the stone of mount magica, the tallest mountain in Marshlake.”

The stone looked completely natural, but they were perfectly put together. Samuel couldn’t believe his eyes at how incredible this was. There were students everywhere, and they were all in the same uniforms as Eric, Charles, and Charlene, but in all different colors. Some were in red, like Eric. Some were in green, like Charlene. There was a far greater number of people in white robes for some reason, but everyone had a different stripe along the sides of their robes.

“Hey Eric, why are all the robes different?” Samuel asked, Eric turned to him.

“Well, you know how I specialize in Wand Tactics?” Samuel nodded, “Well that's what these stripes indicate.” Eric pulled on his own robe to show his light-brown stripes along his robe, “Cool right, magic has a lot of ways to cast it. Some are unknown, but the ones we do know we put into categories. Take Charles for example, you know how he has those blue stripes down his robe?” Samuel looked at the Aqua coloring of Charles robe, and the dark blue stripes lining his robe.

“Oh, so you all have different specialties.”

“Kind of, you only get them during your second year. That's when they say it’s best to find your specialty.” Eric said. It sounded strange the way they sort the magic system, but it wasn’t his world.

Jackson came up from behind them, “So I think I got it, the portal only opens with that key. So we could open it when we get back?” He said with a shrug at the end.

Samuel thought about it for a second, “Wouldn’t it open when I went next to it with the key?” Jackson looked like he was thinking,

“True,” Jackson said back. Then a bell rang from the school, and all the students ran to the school.

“We got to go,” Eric said. He held out his hand to Samuel. “I'm glad you came here, whether you come back or not. I'm going to remember this.” Samuel looked at his hand for a second, then took it.

“I’ll always remember this too, and I’m glad I got to see this world with you all.” Samuel responded.

They shook hands, then Eric ran away to school with Charles, and Carlene. Samuel hoped he’d be able to see them again some day.
