Diamond in the rough

Chapter 03

Chapter 03

Mar 23, 2025

Back in the present, Jisung snapped out of the memory, his face visibly paling as the humiliation resurfaced.

“No, absolutely not!” he snapped, crossing his arms defiantly. “I’m not playing your stupid game anymore.”

Suno chuckled, clearly relishing Jisung’s distress. He leaned against a nearby table, his arms crossed casually over his chest. “Come on, Jisung. You’re being dramatic. It’s not even that bad.”

Jisung’s lips thinned into a tight line as he glared at the Beta. Not that bad? His stomach churned. “Whatever you’re planning, just forget it. I’m not doing it.”

Suno tilted his head, his grin unyielding. “You think you can just walk away from this? Nope. Rules are rules, and you agreed to play. You don’t get bail now.”

A spark of irritation rose in Jisung’s chest. He’d always kept a low profile at work, except for his easy friendship with Minsoo. Yet somehow, Suno had managed to dig up one of his most closely guarded secrets: his status as a virgin omega. And, of course, Suno had wasted no time spreading it to their colleagues, much to Jisung’s embarrassment.

Suno’s smirk softened into something almost friendly as he pushed off the table and took a step closer. “Relax, Jisung,” he said, his tone lighter. “This is all in good fun. Nobody’s judging you… much.”

Jisung narrowed his eyes, his mind darting between possibilities. What if Suno is really helping? Or maybe not? Is there a way out of this? He tried to convince himself, Maybe it’s not that bad. But deep down, he knew better.

When Jisung first joined the office, he’d kept to himself, avoiding unnecessary interactions. He didn’t go out of his way to greet people, nor did he linger in shared spaces. His reserved demeanor earned him a reputation for arrogance, especially among colleagues like Suno, who thrived on being the center of attention.

Initially, Suno had been the golden boy of the department, effortlessly charming the chief and colleagues alike. But Jisung’s arrival disrupted that balance. With his sharp mind and unflappable nature, Jisung quickly became the chief’s go-to detective, leaving Suno simmering in quiet resentment.

Adding to Suno’s frustration was Jisung’s refusal to engage with people beyond a professional level. When an Alpha colleague had tried to woo him, drawn to Jisung’s refined looks and quiet confidence, Jisung had turned him down without hesitation. The rejection was firm but polite, yet it only fueled rumors about the aloof omega. Suno, however, had pieced the puzzle together after careful observation.

He’s a virgin. The realization had thrilled Suno. To him, It was the perfect weakness in Jisung’s defenses, a way to unravel his composed exterior and expose vulnerability. If revealing it to the group wasn’t enough, forcing Jisung into a situation he couldn’t control was the cherry on top.

And now, here they were.

Suno stepped closer, placing a hand firmly on Jisung’s shoulders. His voice was low but insistent. “I’m sure you don’t want the others finding out your little secret, right? Look, this is a one-time thing. You won’t see the guy again. And hey, you’ll finally get your ‘first time’ out of the way.”

Jisung’s throat tightened as a wave of frustration and dread swept through him. He wanted to say no, to push Suno away and end this farce, but the words wouldn’t come. Focus on your career, he reminded himself, gripping onto that thought like a lifeline. He’d sacrificed relationships, personal milestones, even his first kiss, all for his goals.

What choice do I have now?

He exhaled shakily and nodded, his lips pressed into a thin line.

Suno’s grin widened, his satisfaction palpable. “Great. Everyone, let’s head back to the station!”

Jisung walked ahead, his strides purposeful. “First, I’ll stop by the flower shop next to the building,” he announced abruptly.

Suno raised an eyebrow. “Why?” His tone was laced with irritation.

“I need to get flowers for my father,” Jisung replied curtly. His voice wavered slightly at the mention of his father, and a chill ran down his spine.

The flower shop was small but quaint, its shelves overflowing with vibrant blooms. The air was thick with the mingling scents of lilies, roses, and lavender. The detectives received warm greetings from the shop’s owner, though Jisung quickly separated himself from the group, weaving through rows of flowers in search of something new.

‘The same bouquet as last time would look lazy,’ he thought. ‘Unprofessional. Disrespectful.’

Spotting a tall worker in a hanbok arranging flowers nearby, Jisung approached. “Excuse me,” he began, forcing a polite smile. “I’m looking for a beautiful bouquet to offer.”

The man turned slowly, his dark eyes scanning Jisung with a detached curiosity. His long black hair, cascading down his back, caught the light in a way that made Jisung squint. Is that… a wig? he thought, his lips twitching in faint disgust. He quickly replaced the expression with another forced smile as the man finally spoke.

“All flowers are beautiful,” the worker replied flatly.

Jisung chuckled awkwardly. “Right, of course. But I mean… something more presentable?”

The man adjusted his glasses, his face unreadable. “Is it for your chief officer?”

Jisung hesitated, his smile faltering. “Y-yeah, something like that.”

With a resigned sigh, the man gestured for Jisung to follow. “This way.”

Trailing behind, Jisung couldn’t help but notice how the man’s long hair swayed with each step. Eww, why is it so long? It’s probably fake. His nose wrinkled, but he quickly smoothed his features when the man glanced back at him.

The worker began explaining each flower he selected, his voice monotone but steady. He described the symbolism of each bloom, its origin, and why it might suit the occasion. But Jisung heard none of it. His mind was elsewhere, drowning in thoughts of the looming ‘punishment.’

“Still not done?” Suno’s voice rang out, sharp and impatient, pulling Jisung back to the present.

“Coming,” Jisung muttered, clutching the bouquet as he thanked the worker.

As Suno’s gaze landed on the flower shop employee, his lips curled into a mischievous smile.

“Jisung,” he called, motioning him over. Lowering his voice, he whispered, “I found the perfect man for your punishment.”

Jisung followed his gaze, his eyes landing on the tall worker. His grip on the bouquet tightened. “You must be joking,” he hissed through gritted teeth.

Suno smirked. “Why would I joke about this?”

Walking over to the man, Suno offered a friendly, albeit insincere, greeting. “Hey, I need a favor.”

The worker adjusted his ugly glasses, tilting his head slightly. “We have plenty of flowers if you need more hel—”

“Not that kind of favor,” Suno cut the man with a grin.

The worker’s brows furrowed. “Then what kind?”

Suno leaned in conspiratorially, lowering his voice just enough to keep Jisung from hearing. “See my friend over there?” He gestured toward Jisung. “He’s… let’s say, desperate and in need of some, uh, relief.” He approached him more and said in a low voice “he's a horny rabbit.” The flower shop guy’s jaw dropped.

Both men turned to look at Jisung, who froze under their scrutiny. His face burned, a mix of embarrassment and anger.

“One night stand?” the worker asked bluntly.

Suno nodded eagerly, his satisfaction evident. “Exactly.” This -flower shop- man is a bit smarter more than he thought, or maybe just a pervert who fuck around.

The worker’s lips twitched into a smirk, his curiosity sparked. Suno quickly exchanged numbers with him, making sure to send the details of a motel later that evening. Despite his attitude, Suno wasn’t jerk enough to completely expose Jisung’s private life.

Jisung however, stood frozen, the flowers trembling in his hands. ‘This is a nightmare,’ he thought, swallowing the lump of dread in his throat.
