Flip of a coin

Fated Mutt

Fated Mutt

Apr 11, 2025

 “HA HA HA! STUPID MUTT!”

Picking up a nice clump of mud, I mush it into a ball, climb the fence, and peg it right into the face of my neighbour's big brown dog.

“Roweeel!” The dog ran about trying to hide from my attacks, but the stupid pea brain mutt didn’t realise it had no where to hide!

The mutt was chained to a pole in the ground so it wouldn’t be able to escape no matter how hard it tried, plus their backyard was bare of any big trees or bushes for it to slink into, so it was all mine to have fun with~

I didn’t have any risk of neighbours bursting out of their home to scold me either; they were close with my parents, so I knew their work schedule and when they would get home, so I always made sure to leave the mutt be before they returned home.

My own parents weren't a risk either; my mother was away at work, leaving me with my dad, who didn’t give a crap about what I did out here in the backyard. As long as I didn’t interrupt his writing then I could do whatever the hell I wanted.

Which was to find my slingshot and fit in some target practice on the stupid mutt!

Now the question is, where did I leave that damn thing? I hop down from the fence and search for it, taking me a little while before finally spotting it in one of the bushes, quickly grabbing it along with a couple of rocks as ammo, tucking the extra big rock in my pocket to save as the finale.

I approach the fence once more, wondering just how people can love such loud, obnoxious, mindless creatures that do nothing but shit and piss everywhere, along with destroying everything in sight if you let them!

Don't think I will ever understand how anyone can love these useless creatures, and if I had it my way, I’d hunt down everyone of them and force them to suffer a nice, slow, and painful death for being such wastes of space.

Ah well, at least I have this mutt here to punish.

Climbing the fence with my slingshot in hand, I place one of the smaller rocks into the sling and ready my aim at the dog’s face.

Little dumb-ass stood there looking up at me, whimpering and looking at me with deep sadness in its eyes, as if such a pathetic look was going to do anything to protect him.

Without a second thought, I fired my rock, and it flew straight to him at great speeds!

“ROOOORRRL!”

Unfortunately, he moved just before it could nail him in between the eyes, but I still managed to hit the mutt’s ass quite hard, so it wasn’t a wasted shot.

“HA HA HA HA! BULLSEYE! HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT YOU STINKING MUTT!”

Once again, the dumb-ass ran around in a panic, trying over and over to escape, only for the chain to pull him back and choke him each and every time.

The stupid creature was never going to learn, not even realising that freaking out like this just gave me the perfect opportunity to practice on a moving target, so I unloaded the rest of my ammo on the dumb mutt, flawlessly landing each and every shot on the fuzz ball's body.

“HELL YEAH! TWELVE SHOTS! A NEW RECORD!”

I pumped my fist in the air and did a little dance to celebrate this achievement. No one can match my sick, sharp shooting skills! I wonder if I’m able to even snipe some of the girls and nerds at school without them even catching me.

Now that sounds like something fun to try later!

Right now, though, I'm not quite done with this drooling idiot, for I had one last parting gift for the mangy mutt, panting and whimpering as it lay on the ground all tucked out after the serious work out I’d given it.

Little disappointed that he wouldn’t give me a real challenge for this last shoot, but on the upside, it made it a lot easier for me to aim right between his eyes with the biggest rock-out of the bunch that I officially dubbed Giganto to make for one hell of a grand finale.

It was a bit big for my slingshot, but I was still able to load it without too much issue; I just needed to adjust my aim slightly to account for Giganto’s extra weight.

With Giganto in place, I take aim at the exhausted mutt, pulling back the rubber band and readying my shoot with a delighted grin, knowing the furball was unable to do anything but look at me in utter despair.

I wonder if this shot would blind or even kill the mutt.

Guess we’ll find out?!

…

“Bet you feel like quite the tough guy picking on a creature who can’t fight back?”

“H-Huh!?” Just as I was about to take my shot, a very strange voice that sounded like a mix of a man and woman, yet at the same time something that didn’t sound like either, came from out of nowhere. “W-Who said tha-AH!”

It was then that I looked down beside me and saw that someone in a dark blue hoodie was standing beside me!

The shock of seeing this stranger had caused me to lose my balance, sending me crashing down right on my back and dropping my slingshot and Giganto.

“Ouch, quite the nasty fall you took there.” Though the fall was quite painful, it was negated by the utter fear that this stranger had somehow gotten into our backyard without me even realising it. “Wonder what would have happened if you fell on the other side of the fence, the one where you were tormenting that dog? Now that would have been quite an entertaining sight to behold.”

My body couldn’t stop shaking as I sat on the ground, slowly backing away from this guy...Girl? I don’t know what this person was since they were covered head to toe in a hoodie and long black pants despite the boiling summer heat.

For some reason, they were flipping a coin up and down over and over without even dropping it once as they slowly approached me.

“D-DAAAAAAD!” Getting to my feet as quickly as possible, I bolted away from this creep and ran to the sliding screen door at the back of the house, pounding on it at a rapid pace. “DAAAAAD! DAAAAD! HEEEEEELP! THERE IS SOME CREEP OUT HERE!!!” I banged on it as loud as I could, unable to open it since dad likes to lock it, so I couldn’t come in to bother him during his work.

“What!?” Thankfully, my voice had reached him upstairs, and I could faintly hear his voice along with him stomping his way down the stairs as he arrived at the back door. “The hell are you screaming about, boy?” He towered over me, crossing his arms while glaring down at me.

“L-Look! There is a creepy man or something in our backyard!” I pointed over in the direction they were standing, wondering how my dad couldn’t see them!

Once he looked up, his expression only got more intense, giving me hope that he had seen the creep and would step out to beat the crap out of the freak and protect me. That hope vanished once that scary expression landed back on me.

“Are you fucking with me, son?”

“H-Huh?” I didn’t understand. Why is he mad at me all of a sudden? “D-Don’t you see them! They’re right…” I turn over to point directly at the guy, only to discover something very strange. “...There…”

The creep was gone.

I-I don’t understand. I was just looking at them a few seconds ago; there is no way they could have despaired in that time. How could they have gotten away so fast?

“Well then, are you happy with yourself, boy?” Now that left me with my dad, having to face his wrath after interrupting him from his important work. “Because of your prank, I’m now not only behind with my novel, but you have broken me out of my zone! How am I going to create a masterpiece that will make us millions if you keep interrupting me with these silly games!”

Despite being separated by the glass door, my chest couldn’t stop pumping, and I gulped back with sweat poring down my forehead once my sight landed on his clenched fists, fearing what he would do to me once he unlocked this door. “I-I wasn’t playing any games, honest!” I frantically look about trying to figure out just where this freak has gone. “I swear there was some creepy stranger here! They have to still be around, so if you can come out to help me loo-

“ENOUGH BOY!” he yelled at the top of his lungs, freezing me in place as I slowly turned my attention back to him. “I don’t know what has gotten into you, but know that my patience is running thin right about now! So you better stop this nonsense and let me get back to work or else!” he began fixing up his belt, tapping at the metal part, making it load and clear what he was hinting at. “You understand me, boy?”

Gulping back and biting my bottom lip, I nod and look to the ground, wanting nothing more than to just get my dad to help me look for the creep.

A huff left him as he turned his back to me. “Good...Now don’t you dare interrupt me again if you know what’s good for you,” he storms back into the house to finish yet another story that would most likely get rejected like all the rest.

I let out a calming breath after my dad let me off easy this time, though that bit of relief only lasted for a couple of seconds as there was a much bigger problem at hand…

Where did the creep go?
