They watched Gene pass by for the final time with band equipment not long after Alex and Kourtney entered with instruments of their own.
“Hi Mr. and Mrs. Belcher.” Kourtney waved. Kourtney still had that old, rusted locket but since she had a bad habit of sucking on it, it no longer opened. - She doesn’t suck on it anymore either. - but her appearance had taken a large upgrade, she was talker, she cut her hair, and her clothing style had undergone a few astatic changes but settled on garden girl. She wore a loose white sundress, jean vest with a floral pattern on the back, and clean brown cowgirl boots. All topped with a flat brim straw hat. In other words, she was a new but familiar type of annoying. Of course, she was also vegan and wouldn’t let anyone forget it. She also learned to play guitar from her dad.
“Ew! the small of dead animals is making sick, can we go to the basement now?” she asked.
“Of course.” answered Linda.
“I’m telling you now, it gets worse downstairs.” Gene warns.
“That’s okay, I don’t mind. You think I could order a burger before we start practice.” said Alex. Who also changed, losing a lot of weight due to his mom’s commitment to the no sugar diet she had put the family on. Now, with all the practice and effort in gym class not only did his body change but he got himself a new girlfriend. She was a year older, but she was held back so when they met in class, they really hit it off. He played the drums, and he wasn’t that bad; with all that frustration he harbored it gave him a healthy outlet.
“I can make you guys something, you go ahead, and I’ll bring it down.” Bob excitedly offered.
“Don’t worry about it boss, I got you.” said the new guy.
“I’M making those burgers.” said Bob, trying to intimidate.
“Okay, guess I’ll take my break then.” He backed down, taking off his apron and walking out the back door. He was never a fighter, so Bob tends to win against him regarding the grill every time. - The band continued to struggle with their instruments heading down to the basement and Louise had made her way down towards the dump out back though as she was walking down the stairs she tripped on a loose board and fell, not badly but just enough to rip her shoe.
“aaaRRHHH! WE NEED A NEW HOUSE!” she screamed; her fist balled in anger. She sighed loudly and frustratedly as she saw that all the clothes and Tina trinkets were scattered down the stairs. Meanwhile, downstairs. Gene and his crew finally plugged in and sat quietly, enjoying the burgers Bob had made for them; the burger of the day. The how guac fried pickily burger with guacamole and fried pickles on pepper jack cheese. It was delicious for everyone but Kourtney, of course; who had a bowl of lettuce. Louise had finally made it down with the box and she cut through the restaurant to get to the dump, but another thing stopped her from tossing it.
“Oh Louise! We have to get you some new clothes for school, when you’re done with that come back and we can hit the mall before they close.”
“Okay.” she replied unbothered, lifting the box further on her chest and continuing toward the dump as she did Gene’s voice could be heard counting down,
“ONE! TWO! ONE, TWO THREE!” A loud bang was heard as Alex opened the song with the drums. Louise walked faster out the door cause things could get loud with Gene and his band.
“Hey Kido.” said the new guy to Louise as she stepped out of the back door.
“Leave me alone, Logan. I don’t care what dad says, we’re still enemies.”
“Who said anything about a friend? I just said Hey.”
She ignores him as he smokes by himself and goes ahead to throw away the box of Tina’s old stuff. - Logan Berrybush had dropped out of college about a year ago and decided to get some honest work at the only place he knew would hire him. Most things about him stayed the same but he looked a bit more disheveled and tired; His jaded eyes and grown out, unkempt beard was the proof that something had happened, but he never really talked about it. - He continued to sit in silence as Louise passed in to reenter the restaurant where Linda was waiting with her purse and keys.
“Okay let’s head out.”
“What?!”
“I SIAD, LET HEAD OUT!”
“OKAY!”
Gene’s playing was good but very loud and they weren’t sure if the music was helping or hurting the business. A couple of people left but they were also done eating so who was to say. They decide to continue their conversation outside towards where they parked the car and Linda said this,
“Look, if you let me shop for the new school year – no fuss! I’ll let you paint your room any color but black.”
“Okay but why black?”
“Because I wouldn’t be able to see you at night, it’s too scary and dark.” she playfully shivers.
They continued to walk in silence for a bit until they approached the car, once they got in Louise broke the silence with a question.
“Mom?”
“Yeah?”
“I think Rudy isn’t going to be in high school with me. His mom wants him to live with her full time, and I told him he should, but I don’t want him to leave. What should I do?”
“Well, that’s a lot. Let me see, does he want to move?”
“Yes. Well, kinda. It’s Rudy, he’s always indecisive.”
“Well maybe, you just need to show him all the new things he’d miss out on if he did leave to help him better decide.” Linda placed a loving hand on her lap and gave a couple of pats before gripping the steering wheel. “Alright, let’s buy you some new used clothes.”
