It’s 6 AM.
No one but Miss Taylor and I are up.
I had to come up with an escape plan, and quick… but how would I even escape?
There’s windows all over the place… Wouldn’t be the worst idea I suppose? I just have to make sure Miss Taylor doesn’t see or hear me.
But how would I avoid that? This escape plan may not be as easy as I thought to come up with…
Whatever. I gotta figure this out now before-
…
“Yaawwn… Good morning, Garet.” Rust said unexpectedly.
“Morning. I’m trying to think of a plan to get us out of here.”
So I kept thinking…
“We could jump out the window from this room and make a run for the city if we wanted to… We’d just have to avoid getting hurt in the process.” I said (being the brilliant thinker that I am).
Rust looks around the room.
“Aha! I’ve got an idea!” Rust holds up the pillows from his bed. “We can use these to cushion our landing. It may not be perfect, but at least it isn’t concrete.”
Hmm… Not a bad idea. It’s a shame I didn’t think of that myself.
So we shut the door to the bedroom and tried to remain as quiet as possible (since the other kids are still sleeping of course). We opened up the window and threw out a couple pillows onto the concrete ground below.
“Are you ready?” Rust asked.
“Are you kidding? Of course I’m ready.”
And so we did it. We jumped from the second floor onto a couple pillows outside. Did it hurt? Of course it did. Was it worth it?
Heck yeah.
Rust and I decided to make a run for the city, injured legs and all. Once we arrived there, we knew immediately we had to hide somewhere in case anyone knew who we were (unlikely, but I’d rather not risk it).
Fortunately, we managed to find a subway station after looking around for about 30 minutes I’d say (I have no watch or phone like nearly everyone else here, so I have no clue what time it is). The subway train itself was set to arrive at 8 AM according to a sign, so that meant we had to wait… a period of time until then (again, no clue what time it is).
There was a bench nearby, so Rust and I thought we should sit down and rest until the train arrives. After all, our legs are still sore from this morning.
“So, what do you think you’re gonna do now that we’re out of there?” I asked.
“Good question…” He paused. “I thought about starting a music career, or something like that. Maybe it could be fun. I heard it makes good money too.”
“Hm… I didn’t really think much about money. I might try and do the same thing. If I can, that is.”
“I’ll tell you one thing for sure: When I get famous, you’re gonna be famous right there with me.” He said, eager to get this “music career” going (even though it had only been about an hour or so since we left the orphanage).
“Mhm… We’ll see.”
I wasn’t so sure about this, but I was willing to give it a shot. It’s not like I have anything else to do anyway.
Sooner or later, the subway train arrived and we got on. We had no idea where we were going, but we wanted to go somewhere. Anywhere but that orphanage, really. As long as I’m safe and not jobless, that’s all that matters.
