Mira didn't sleep that night.
She watched Solana long after the girl drifted off again, her small hand still curled where it had pointed — to the wall. That wall now felt different, like it was watching Mira too. Or maybe not watching... listening.
By morning, nothing strange remained.
Except Mira.
She was changed.
Every movement — brushing Solana's hair, peeling fruit for breakfast, humming quietly while folding clothes — felt like it echoed into something invisible. Like the air remembered her now. Or was waiting for her to remember it.
Solana was herself again: playful, wild-haired, dancing with her stuffed bunny in the sunbeam by the couch. But she kept glancing toward the hallway like she expected someone to arrive.
After lunch, Mira stood at the kitchen sink, staring at the backyard. She thought about the door.
The one that wasn't there now.
The one she'd felt.
She dried her hands and turned toward Solana, who was stacking books and knocking them over with fierce satisfaction.
"Solana," she said gently. "Want to go outside with Mama?"
Solana turned.
And nodded.
⸻
The garden was quiet, but the silence had a sound to it. Not birds. Not wind. Something beneath those things.
The tree still stood. The wall was the same.
No door.
But Mira walked to the corner anyway, holding Solana's hand.
She ran her fingers along the wall.
Nothing.
Then Solana let go of her hand and did something strange.
She began to spin.
Slowly at first, then faster — like a child dancing to music only she could hear.
And then she stopped. Faced the wall. And reached out with both hands.
Right where the door had been before.
Mira opened her mouth to speak, but before she could —
The wall shimmered.
Just like in her room.
But this time, it stayed.
Lines appeared. Faint, glowing edges, tracing the shape of the door.
And then... it opened.
Inward.
No sound. Just light.
Golden. Faint. Breathing.
Solana looked up at Mira, her eyes wide, shimmering like mirrors of something far, far away.
Mira didn't ask what this was.
She didn't ask if they should go.
She just picked Solana up, kissed her temple, and stepped through.
And the door closed behind them.
