New team member! Ezra IS a bit on the older side, being the hoothoot equivalent of late middle aged, but he's also just bad at taking care of his feathers, which makes him look ancient. Also, I remember I was surprised to see Katsu had a berry on him in the beginning, I didn't realize Crystal did that!
As for the Coronet Challenge, the short of it is that it dates back to the days of the Galaxy Team, which had Alolans amongst their ranks. I'd imagine that their kids were salty about being unable to do a traditional Island Challenge, so they started a new one with the help of the Clans and a Surveyor, after Sinnoh gained its new name. This modified Challenge later became the blueprint for the League System.
