Ken quickly submerged himself and saw Mimi captured by this terrifying creature. “What do I do?!” He thought to himself. Then, he got an idea. He went back up to the surface and untied the planks from the ball. With a jagged-ended plank in hand, he swam toward the beast. “Hey, you!” He yelled. “Eat this!”
Mimi looked at him thankfully and admirably.
The creature turned toward him, seeing him as equally delicious nourishment.
Ken held the plank behind his back and spoke in an uncharacteristically cocky tone. “Yeah, I look tasty, don’t I?”
The reptile growled and opened its jaw wide as it lunged toward Ken. Ken quickly jammed the wooden plank into the creature’s mouth, preventing its jaw from being able to snap down. The creature whined and shook its head in a desperate attempt to get this huge splinter out and close its mouth, but the piece of wood was lodged in there too well. In its pain, it unwrapped itself from Mimi’s legs and whimpered as it slithered away. Ken swam over to Mimi and put an arm gracefully around her shoulder. “You’re safe now,” he said.
Mimi’s eyes opened wide in shock.
“Hm? What is it?” Ken asked. “Oh, we should go back up.”
Mimi gasped for air as they returned to the surface and then instantly exclaimed, “Ken! That was incredible!!”
“Aw, shucks,” Ken felt bashful about his heroism and rubbed the back of his head.
“You were talking and breathing under water!”
Ken stared at her as this sank in. He hadn’t even realized.
