Rust and I had left the mall, and as we were walking down the sidewalk, we noticed something. There were posters advertising an upcoming musical:
“We’re looking for actors for our upcoming musical, ‘3 Minutes til Sunshine!’ Come to the Cadence Auditorium to audition!”
It seemed interesting enough.
“Well,” I said, “I think I would be the perfect person for the job!”
“We could both audition,” Rust suggested, “It would give us something to do, and surely it pays well!”
A little background on myself, I used to love singing and “acting” when I was younger. Rust and I used to play pretend all the time. Man, it was so much fun.
Anyway, back to this.
“Okay, let’s give it a shot!” I said, having regained my confidence.
So, we entered the auditorium and immediately signed up to audition for the musical.
“Hey, how well does this thing pay?” I asked.
“It depends on if you’re any good or not.” Said the person signing me in.
Well, I figured I’d do amazing, so I had no doubt I’d be getting paid.
I’ll write again when I’m done.
…
So, we finished. I may be doomed.
When Rust gave his audition, the musical crew adored it. When I gave my audition, they immediately booed me offstage. We’re supposed to come back tomorrow morning so we can officially know who’s in the musical. Rust and I looked around for a while and eventually found a little alleyway we could stay in for the night.
Oh yeah. It’s night, by the way. This dreadful audition took forever.
Anyway, we decided to go to sleep.
…
So, it’s the morning now as I’m writing this… I overslept again.
We immediately decided to head to the Cadence Auditorium just in case it was already time for the cast announcement… It was.
When we got there, the musical crew immediately welcomed Rust very nicely. Meanwhile, they didn’t say a word to me. I guess we were late, because they started announcing the cast as soon as we arrived.
I don’t remember a majority of the cast, but I know that the person working at the merch store from yesterday, I think her name was Lola, is playing the main character, so that’s cool.
Then I heard the big news. Rust will be playing the love interest of the main character… and I will be playing nobody. Everyone cheered for Lola and Rust for getting the most important roles in the play, and I was left feeling terrible.
Over the next couple of days, Rust was treated like a celebrity. He hardly ever came to see me in the alleyway. He had been staying at the auditorium with the other crew members and overall is just living the best life.
You know what? I don’t need him. I’ve got myself and my journal. That’s all one really needs in the end anyway.
