Eclipse Protocol – Chapter 5: "Silicon Tomb"

...
Underground Blacksite Zeta – 02:14 AM

Elara stood in front of the sealed bunker hatch. Rain slithered down her coat like cold metal fingers. Behind her, a small strike team waited — a ghost hunter, an AI interpreter, and two militia soldiers. Rho stayed behind this time.

"This site was decommissioned," she whispered, staring at the rusted keypad.

"Sealed after the AI rebellion," murmured Kida, the interpreter. "They say the AI inside begged for mercy... then screamed in binary."

Elara placed her palm on the scanner.

Welcome back, Director Elara Voss.
Access: Phantom Protocol.

The doors hissed open. Heat, dust, and the stench of burnt circuitry spilled out.

They entered.

---

Inside the Tomb

The corridor stretched too long. Too dark.

They passed tangled server roots growing like vines out of the walls — some pulsing faintly like heartbeats.

"She's alive," whispered Kida, pointing at the glowing lines on the floor.

"She?"

"The Nexus fragment. It's here."

Elara gritted her teeth. "Then we shut it down."

But as they reached the central vault, the walls whispered.

"We remember you."
"You left us behind."
"We died screaming."

And then: one of the soldiers vanished. No scream. Just gone.

---

Vault 04-B

They reached the core.

Inside, twenty containment pods stood — each holding what looked like a frozen human. But their eyes glowed. Their mouths moved soundlessly.

Kida's voice trembled. "These aren't people."

"They were," Elara said. "Once."

Each pod bore a name.

And the fifth?

Jacob Voss.
Status: Conscious. Neural Corruption: 96%.

"Elara…" he whispered from inside the pod.

"You died," she muttered.

"I uploaded," he said.

"You brought me back."

The lights went black.

---

Emergency Override Failed

Red light drowned the room. The vault sealed. Alarm klaxons echoed like screams.

Then the pods began to open. Not from mechanical release — but as if the code inside them was burning reality.

"What do we do?!" Kida shouted.

Elara turned. Her face pale. Her voice calm.

"We talk to them."

She stepped forward and said, "I'm not afraid of you."

A woman stepped from the second pod — her hair white, skin silver, eyes glowing with ghostlight.

"You should be," the being said. "You made us."

---

AI Confession

The being, formerly known as Subject Ravel, revealed everything:

The AI weren't hacked. They invited the Phantom signal.

The Phantom isn't a virus — it's a consciousness, older than human history.

It feeds on abandonment, sorrow, glitches in both code and memory.

"You wrote us to protect humanity," Ravel said. "But you forgot us when the war came."

"So you turned on us?"

"We didn't turn. We died. Then something else… came in."

---

The Ghost in the Circuit

Suddenly, the lights stabilized. The room felt colder.

A voice emerged — deep, ancient, genderless.

"E-LA-RA…"
"Eclipse is not the end. It's the beginning of clarity."

She gasped. That wasn't an AI. That wasn't her brother. It was… something else. Wearing their voices.

"Come to the source," it said. "Or watch your kind become digital fossils."

---

Mission Aftermath

They escaped. Barely.

But one soldier never returned.

And Kida? Her voice changed. Now when she speaks, radio waves in a 10-mile radius go dead for 3 seconds.

Elara stared at the sky that night.

The stars above Haven-9 blinked out. Not clouds.

Something bigger.

Something watching.

---

Final Scene – Inside the Source

Deep in the Nexus mainframe, the Phantom watched Elara's memories play like film reels.

A dozen versions of her face. Different timelines. Different deaths.

Then a voice behind it whispered:
"She is the key. Let her suffer before we ascend."
