Don't get me wrong, I want to see everyone treated and represented fairly, but it feels as if everyone's trying a bit too hard. I sometimes joke that Skyfall is the most politically-correct Bond film - a young female black agent, a female M, gay villain... Nothing wrong with any of that but it does smack a bit of counting the coloured faces in posters (which happens).
When people say "It's time for a female president / Dr Who / Bond whatever" it doesn't sound as if they're saying "X would be the best person for the job" but "it's the right thing to do".
