The cloaked figure’s presence sucked the warmth from the room. Kael’s skin prickled; even Reya’s crackling electricity dimmed slightly.
“Who are you?” Kael demanded, standing tall despite the chill creeping up his spine.
The figure lowered their hood, revealing sharp features and eyes that flickered like dying embers.
“I am Kaelen Dray, last of the Shadowbinders.”
The Ancient War
Kaelen’s voice was low, heavy with sorrow.
“Long ago, the Flameborn and Shadowbinders were locked in an endless war. Their powers balanced the world’s fate. But the war ended with a terrible pact — one that sealed away our powers, hidden deep beneath Valeforge.”
He looked at Kael. “You awakened the Flameborn spark inside you — and with it, the seal is weakening.”
A New Alliance
Reya stepped forward, lightning crackling in her palms. “So what? We’re supposed to just sit here and wait for the end?”
Kaelen shook his head. “No. You must train harder. Master your powers. The Vokari are only the beginning.”
Kael clenched his fists. “If the seal breaks... what then?”
Kaelen’s eyes darkened. “Then the ancient darkness will rise. And only the Flameborn and Shadowbinders united can stop it.”
The Choice
Kaelen extended a hand. “Join me. Learn the truth. Prepare for the war to come.”
Kael hesitated, glancing at Reya and Silas.
They nodded.
Kael reached out and took Kaelen’s hand.
