First Blood

Episode 2

Episode 2

May 21, 2025

It happened one night when she was walking home from a shoot. They had just wrapped up shooting in a club, the scene of dancing and drinks forever captured in pictures. Sienna had never been one for that kind of scene. Maria had invited her to stay a little longer and let loose, but the smell of sweat and cigarettes was far too much for her to handle. She waved her goodbye and decided to spend the night relaxing at her apartment, taking a shower before bed. That was the plan anyway. Construction had shut the sidewalk down meaning she had to find an alternative route to get back home. She pushed back a strand of light brown hair as she entered the alley. It was rather light out with the moon and faded neon signs illuminating a path in the dark. There was no one else around, not at first anyway. Halfway through the alley, a man in a dark coat turned the corner, coming her way. There was nothing to worry about. He had also probably been redirected by the construction too and was heading home, maybe to a wife and kids. While she wanted to believe these happy thoughts, she also kept pepper spray in her pocket just in case. The two slowly got closer. Sienna made sure to stand as close to the wall as she could, making sure to avoid eye contact. Then, they passed one another without incident. Sienna let out a sigh of relief as her thoughts turned back to relaxing.

Suddenly, she felt a grip around her wrist that pulled from behind. Her head snapped to it and she saw the man, his face was obscured by a hat, but she could hear some low growling coming from him. She tried to run, to get away, but his grip was so inhumanly strong that she went nowhere. She tried reaching for the spray, but it was in the opposite pocket of her free hand. The man pulled her closer and as he did she got a good look at his face. His eyes were bloodshot and mad while sharp fangs protruded from his mouth. His breath reeked of beer and death and she could feel its moist, hotness against her face. Desperately she struggled as his teeth neared her flesh. She could only imagine what he was going to do to her. After frantically searching for the spray, she finally found it and blasted him right in his mouth. He was sent stumbling back, screaming and coughing as Sienna tried to escape. Before she could get out of the alley, he had appeared right in front of her as if out of thin air. He grabbed her hand with the spray, causing it to fall to the ground. She felt herself pushed up against the wall as his arm remained wrapped around her neck. Out of options, she bit down as hard as she could into his skin. He groaned but did not let her go. She sank her teeth deeper as her hand searched for a weapon. Her hand brushed up against a jagged piece of a wooden pallet. She stretched her arm as far as she could until she could feel her hand around it. Then, with all her strength she plunged the piece of wood into the man’s chest. He let out an incoherent screech as she was released from his grip. She watched him fall backwards until his body hit the concrete. The piece of wood stuck out of him and she could see blood start to accumulate around the wound. She would’ve left, but something unexplainable happened. The man started to turn to dust until there was nothing left where he laid but bloody clothes and the pallet.

Sienna didn’t know if what just happened was real. The only thing she knew was that her body was shivering and that her mouth now tasted of blood. She must've broken through his skin during their struggle. Wanting to get to safety, she picked up her pepper spray then quickly walked back home. It was only the next day when she realized the strange things happening to her. A lack of taste from anything that wasn’t filled with juice. Sudden insomnia and tiredness from the day. Not to mention the irritation of the sun on her skin. She thought she was crazy at first. Vampires weren’t real, she was just experiencing some kind of shock from the attack. But the feeling didn’t go away, it only got worse. Then she noticed a small pair of fangs popping out before slowly retracting. This was what convinced her.

A squirrel ran up a tree, disappearing into a hollow in the center. Sienna lowered the camera to observe it with her own eyes. It peeked its head out as if knowing there was someone watching it. She looked at the creature, thinking of how its blood tasted. After coming to terms with what she was, she looked up anyway to cure herself. Naturally, all of it was speculation or methods from movies. The urge to drink slowly grew and while the fruits somewhat supplemented her cravings, they weren’t enough. She considered animal blood, but couldn’t imagine herself catching something then sucking it dry like some kind of wild predator. Even when she tried her own, it was disgusting. A sigh came over her as she moved the camera to something else. She stayed under the tree's shade, surveying the park, hoping to find something worthwhile to snap. There were some joggers, the stream, as well as the flora and fauna. It was peaceful. She took some photos, not too invested in her subject. She wanted something grander, more spectacular.

A sudden wave of dizziness hit her. She felt herself slightly fall, luckily catching herself on the tree. While it didn’t rumble, she knew her stomach was roaring, gnawing at itself needing sustenance. She tried to take a step and return to the pavilion but lost her balance. She was expecting to hit the soft grass, but that sensation never came. Instead, two arms propped her up, helping her stabilize herself. She glanced up to the tall man who had saved her. He was young, but still looked somewhat older than her. Short dark brown hair delicately hung just to his forest green eyes as his handsome face captivated her.

He spoke in a soft, caring voice. “Are you okay Ms. Parker?”

Sienna regained her composure, embarrassed about her fall. This man was her boss and the owner of Foxy Pictures: Oliver Fox.
