[S1] Chapter 10

[S1] Chapter 10

May 25, 2025

Beckett sat at the small dining table, arms crossed, brow furrowed in deep concentration. Across from him, Gabriel leaned back in his chair, gold eyes sharp with focus. Jonas, sprawled lazily across the couch watched them both with mild amusement.

"So," he teased, breaking the silence, "are you finally going to admit I'm a genius?"

Beckett ignored him, "If we're going after these bastards, we need proof. Concrete evidence that this was a targeted attack, not just random vandalism."

"Yeah. Otherwise, even if we do find them, we've got nothing to pin on them in court." the alpha nodded.

Holy hells, were they actually agreeing on something? Jonas hummed, "Wouldn't be a problem if we just let Gabriel kill them."

Gabriel appeared to be considering it, after all, it would take care of the problem pretty definitively, "Don't tempt me."

Beckett shot Jonas a daggerous look, "Not helping."

The twin just smirked.

Exhaling through his nose, Beckett adjusted himself in his chair; he'd been sitting to long and really just needed to stretch, "Alright, moving on. Here's what we know: the fire wasn't an accident. And before that, there was vandalism, threats, and intimidation tactics. Linking all of that together, we have a clear case of escelation."

Gabriel tapped his fingers against the table, "We also have a witness," he peered over at Beckett, "I don't doubt you'd recognize at least one of the men involved."

Beckett caught the other man's gaze briefly before quickly looking away, "Yeah, I can think of at least one..."

This brought a confidant smile to Gabriel's face, "Yeah? I think I know just the one. The clown who came into the club before, the roo?"

The omega nodded, Beckett was certain he wasn't involved in the fire; however, he did remember what Victor's men had said. That one of their associates had overstepped. That alpha was connected to Victor, he would surely have at least some information.

"The one who tried to start a fight. No problem, I can find him."

"And when you do?" Jonas injected himself into the discussion again, head tilted.

Gabriel grinned, sharp and dangerous, "We'll have a nice little chat."

This time both twins rolled their eyes. The sight made Gabriel pause, his grin dimming into something slightly more hesitant. It really was a little unnerving how every once in a while, both omega's would do something at the same time in identical ways. It was like looking in a mirror. Though, if they were to swap clothes and act like the other, Gabriel was certain he could find Beckett.

"For the sake of keeping this legal, let's not get arrested for assault." Beckett repremanded, they had enough problems on their plates afterall.

The look he got from Gabriel wasn't a vote of confidence as the alpha shrugged, "That depends on how cooperative he is."

Choosing to pretend not to hear that, Beckett's knee started to bounce. The gears were turning in his mind as he went over everything they would need, "We also need to check if any of the security footage survived."

Gabriel's tail flicked, "Doubtful, if these guys were smart, they would have wiped it," he took note of the looks the twins were wearing, "Uh, what I meant was, I hadn't heard anything about footage being found..."

It was very entertaining watching the alpha squirm; however, Jonas figured he could stop torturing the poor man by giving him a lifeline, "You'd be amazed at what people forget to do when they think they're untouchable."

"It's worth looking into, and if we can prove that Victor was involved..." the air around the dark haired omega seemed to lighten, things were starting to look possible. This subtle change didn't go unnoticed by the other two in the room.

Gabriel's grin widened, "Then we take him for everything he has." It was a bold decleration, but one that everyone could stand behind.

====

Gabriel prided himself in his ability to find people who didn't want to be found. Well, present company excluded. It didn't take long to track down the alpha who'd started the fight at The Den. The same one who had knocked Beckett around, shattered glasses, and grinned like he knew what was coming next.

Turns out, the roo's name was Logan Kade. A low-level enforcer who worked for one of Victor Castellan's "associates." Not important enough to be untouchable, but just connected enough to think he was safe. Gabriel had found him at a dive bar on the city's south side, laughing too loud with a group of men who thought they were tougher than they really were.

It only took a glance to see Logan had clearly been roughed up. As it turns out, tonight just wasn't his night. Gabriel didn't give him a chance to protest or run. He grabbed Logan by the back of the collar and dragged him out of the bar like a misbehaving pup. The guy barely had time to curse before Gabriel slammed him up against the alley wall.

"Let's talk." Gabriel's voice was sharp with a quiet fury that said, this was not a suggestion.

Logan just scoffed, "The hell do you want?" he gave the aggressive Gabriel a shove.

Leaning into the shove, Gabriel slammed his fist into the wall intentionally missing the roo's head, "Names. Details. Everything you know about the attack on The Den."

There was a pregnant pause, Logan looked momentarily confused before the words processed and he couldn't supress a laugh, "You're joking? What? Did that bitch of an omega send you? Fuck off, I don't know shit."

Gabriel only smiled, "Wrong answer."

Five minutes later, Logan sat slumped on the dirty alley ground. His nose re-broken, lip busted, the whole nine-yards.

"Thank you Logan, you have been very helpful," by the time Gabriel had let him go, he had everything he needed, "oh, and one more thing, don't ever let me catch you so much as looking at The Den."

Victor Castellan hadn't personally given the order, but it had come from his people. His men had been harassing Beckett's suppliers, forcing them to drop him. The fire? That had been a message. A final warning before they took things even further. Though, he didn't even want to think about what those things were. If nearly killing Beckett and burning his business to the ground was only the beginning....

No, that wasn't going to happen, Gabriel had gotten what he needed. It was on to step two now, security footage. Hopefully the twins are able to find something.

====

While Gabriel was handling things his way, Beckett and Jonas were at a small and dingy electronics shop. Hunched over a laptop as a friend of Jonas's worked on recovering the club's security footage. The guy, a beta named Marco, whistled low as the files started appearing on screen.

"Damn, they really thought they wiped everything, huh?"

Beckett's fingers were tapping against the counter, the way his tail twitched and swayed betrayed his anxiousness, "But they didn't, right?"

Marco grinned, "Not even close."

Jonas clapped Beckett on the back, elisiting a groan from the other twin, "Told you, people always forget something."

The screen flickered. Then grainy, but clear, figures moving through the dark appeared. Smashing bottles, dragging Beckett across the floor, the flash of a lighter. Beckett's stomach turned as the memories came rushing back.

It was like a sudden, nausiating chill ran down his spine. Beckett shuddered as just below his skin felt like it was uncontrolably vibrating, a cold sweat prickling the back of his neck. He felt like he was going to be sick; doing his best to push the sensation down, Beckett took a step back and found a chair to sit in.

"Well, that's pretty fucking damning," Marco hummed, "and, if you wanted to take legal action, this is as good as gold."

Jonas had joined his brother, crouching next to him and gently rubbing his back, "Save everything, make copies, the works."

"Already on it." Marco nodded.

"You good?" Jonas gave Beckett a soft nudge.

Rubbing the bridge of his nose, Beckett softly leaned against Jonas. He forced a breath through his nose, "I will be."

====

By the time they all met back up, Beckett had the recovered security footage and Gabriel had a name to tie it all back to Victor's people. They had evidence. They had witnesses. Was this enough to go right into part three of their plan? Building their case.

Beckett didn't want to get his hopes up too high, he knew how the world worked afterall. An omega like him accusing a powerful alpha like Victor?

"Alright boys, what's next?" Jonas' voice had been what pulled Beckett from his thoughts. Both twins then looked over at Gabriel, who in turn gave them both a toothy grin.

"Now? Let's see if there's a cop brave enough to help us put this bastard in his place."

====

The police station smelled of burnt coffee and cheap disinfectant. It was already full of people; police officers, secretaries, regular people looking to make complaints or report various crimes. Beckett hated being here.

Jonas had parked himself casually in one of the waiting chairs, flipping through an old magazine so as not to make it obvious he was being entertained by all the colorful characters in the building. Gabriel, on the other hand, stood at Beckett's side, arms crossed, tail wagging with barely restrained irritation as they waited for someone to take them seriously.

The first officer they spoke to had been dismissive, rolling his eyes at Beckett's claim that this was a targeted attack. Before Gabriel could voice his own outrage, Beckett had already slammed his fist down on the counter. It was visibly painful, but he fought through it by off loading a tidal wave of expletives.

The commotion was starting to draw a lot of attention and not wanting to deal with the irate omega, the officer relenteded, "Fine, fine!"

Not before long, the two of them were now sitting in a small, cluttered office across from a detective who looked a lot more interested in what they had to say. Jonas remained behind in the waiting area, far to distracted by a couple of rowdy beta's arguing about property lines.

Detective Alanis Price, a stoic alpha with greying temples and a permanent frown, leaned back in her chair as she scrolled through the footage on the provided tablet. The glow of the screen reflected in her sharp, calculating eyes. Once the clips were finished, she set the device down, lacing her fingers together and letting out a slow breath.

"This is solid."

Beckett's ears perked up, "So, you'll open an investigation?"

Price looked at him, "Frankly, I'm wondering why one hadn't already been opened, but yes," she tapped the screen, "You say you've got names, this has faces, with the timeline you've provided and the level of damage done? That's not just arson, that's attempted murder."

Price started scrolling again, "Tell me the names you have."

That was Gabriel's que, "Logan Kade was the one that started the harassment," he peered over at Beckett, then continued, "however, he's a low level that works under Victor Castellan's people."

That name drew the female alpha's gaze upwards, she locked onto Gabriel's, "Castellan, huh?"

Both Gabriel and Beckett gave a simultanious nod.

Price shifted in her rather worn chair, it creaked in mild protest, "Castellan's name has popped up in more cases than I can count, but no one's ever been able to nail him down," she tapped the footage, "This though? This might actually be enough to put pressure on the right people."

Beckett felt his jaw tighten, "So, what happens now?"

Leaning forward, Price gave a dangerous smile, "Now, we build a case. My department will officially open an investigation into the arson and the targeted harassment leading up to it. We'll start pulling records, following the money; because trust me, guys like Castellan? If you're a big enough thorn, eventually they screw up."

Practically feeding off the fire burning in the other alpha's gaze, Gabriel smirked, "So what your saying is, we're going to make his life hell?"

"Oh absolutely."

Beckett ignored the two alpha's, he was just sitting there quietly, taking in what had just happened. He allowed a slow breath to pass his lips. It wasn't justice yet, it wasn't an instant fix, but it was a start.

Price stood, "I'll be in touch soon, and Beckett?" the omega looked up, she gave him a steady look, "we're going to get this bastard."

Eyes narrowing, Beckett forced a smirk, "Damn right we are."

As the three of them walked out of the office; Gabriel and Beckett reunited with Jonas. He'd long since abandonded the magazine and was now just unapologetically watching as the spouses of the two property beta's were now in a screaming match.

He didn't enjoy leaving such an entertaining show behind, but once they were walking out of the station, Jonas stretched with a lazy grin, "Well! That went better than expected."

Gabriel huffed, "Don't jinx it."

Beckett, having allowed the two to walk a few steps ahead, just watched. A faint smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

In the flicker of strobe lights and the silence between songs; two hearts learn to listen to each other -- no matter how loud the world around them gets.

Beckett built The Den to be a sanctuary, a place where an omega like him could lead without apology. Guarded, sharp-tongued, and always in control, he's sworn off the fairy tale of fated bonds and the illusion of safety in anyone else's arms.

Then Gabriel Delacroix shows up -- an alpha with too much charm and an instinct that won't back down. Their chemistry is combustible from the start, sparking arguments, stolen glances, and touches that linger too long. What begins as irritation turns into tension, and tension into something far more dangerous: trust.

Gabriel isn't the mate Beckett expected -- but he might be the one he needs. And maybe love doesn't always come in sweeping gestures. Maybe it builds in small acts of care, in the comfort of shared silences, and in the choice to stay -- again and again.
