Chapter Six: The Pride of the Dragon
Anyway, I’m still not sure whether this world is the world of the novel or not.
What I do know now is that I need food and water, and if this egg hatches, my situation will worsen because I’ll have to take care of it as well.
It will cause me a lot of trouble as soon as it comes out; it’s a newborn and doesn’t understand anything.
All it will know will come from the memories of the bloodline only,
And it will act based on that unless it finds someone to teach it, guide it, and protect it until it reaches maturity.
Otherwise, it may face life-threatening danger, directly or indirectly.
And according to my understanding of the effect of bloodline inheritance, it does not directly affect consciousness, nor does it consume it.
In fact, it stimulates the person’s mind to follow it, teaches him how to use dragon energy and their language, and builds positive feelings toward the bloodline he belongs to.
In short, it builds and shapes his consciousness according to the standards of the dragon bloodline he belongs to. And for this reason, I look forward to the change that will occur in me once this stage is completed.
Will I remain as I am now? Or will my personality change drastically?
Anyway, this is a topic postponed for later, and I’ll think about it when the time comes.
For now, I really don’t know how strong the monsters in this forest are.
Will I be able to gather food and water in this forest and survive until I reach maturity? Or will I become prey to a hungry monster?
Moreover, if this crimson egg hatches, I’ll have to provide food and water for it, and that will be extremely difficult.
But, well, it might be easier thanks to the little dragon’s aura—it’s supernatural and induces fear, which could help me hunt weak monsters.
It will be easier for me to hunt animals like rabbits, rodents, or weak insects, and maybe even fish in swamps or rivers.
I’m now in a dense forest, and there are certainly watery swamps, or perhaps rivers with drinkable water.
And if I look at it from this angle, this creature—the one that hasn’t hatched yet and is still inside the egg—might be very useful during hunting.
It might even be far more valuable than I can imagine once it hatches.
Well, all I have to do is be patient and wait until it hatches, and then everything will become clear to me: will it be useful, or just a heavy burden—nothing more, nothing less?
And if it is a heavy burden, I’ll let it take care of itself, and I won’t offer it any help. It must handle its own affairs without my interference.
Anyway, since I belong to the dragon race, I need at least ten years to transition from the childhood stage to the next one.
After that, I’ll be able to establish my own territory within this forest, and then delve deeper into it to become one of its rulers.
This means I have to stay hidden during this period and avoid attracting attention in this forest…
After I finished thinking and drawing up my plans, I left the cave and began searching for dinner.
I stepped out of the cave slowly and lifted my head, gazing at the dark sky, now beginning to be covered by the heavy threads of night.
The air was saturated with the forest’s humidity, and the sound of insects rose as if whispering hidden warnings.
I walked cautiously between the dense trees, searching for a trace of a small animal or anything that could serve as dinner.
I wasn’t just hungry—I needed to feel in control… of the environment, of my life, of this strange body I was still learning how to live inside.
As I walked quietly through the dark forest, I caught a glimpse of something shining among the dense trees.
A sudden, swift movement passed before my eyes—it was a strange rabbit, with shiny green fur and a small horn on its head, resembling something seen in mythical creatures.
I couldn’t determine its exact type, but I was sure of one thing… it would make a good dinner.
With the instinct of a predator, I began to follow its trail cautiously.
It was running fast, but its erratic steps seemed tired, as if something were chasing it.
And just when I thought I might be able to catch up to it, the rabbit suddenly leapt through a thick bush and disappeared into the shadows, leaving behind a faint scent of crushed and scattered herbs.
I took a deep breath, feeling the tension of the chase, and darted after it.
I moved lightly between the trees, avoiding branches that might wrap around my body or hinder my movement.
The rabbit was one step ahead of me, but I could hear its ragged breathing, which made me realize it was on the verge of collapse.
Then I reached a narrow path, intersecting between rocks and the intertwined edges of trees.
In a brief moment of stillness, I saw the rabbit trying to leap over a large rock… but it lost its balance.
I lunged at it quickly and pinned it down with a force that prevented it from escaping.
But…
As soon as I restrained its movement, I felt a strange weight behind me—and hot breaths brushing against my back…
I turned quickly, and my eyes fell upon its figure…the wolf with the bloody fangs.
As I watched the terrifying wolf with the bloody fangs approach, I felt a coldness spreading through my veins.
The horned rabbit was still trembling, as if it shared the same feeling with me.
With every step the wolf with the bloody fangs took, my heart beat faster and faster.
The wolf was approaching quickly, with sharp eyes and a massive body pulsing with strength and aggression.
And even though I knew perfectly well that I was just a newborn dragon, not yet strong enough to face such a brutal creature, something… something deep inside me… pushed me to move.
Our eyes met without thinking. In that moment, I felt every bit of my small energy gather within my body, and in an instant, the battle began.
The beast with the bloody fangs charged toward me with force, its claws flying through the air, aimed at me as if it wanted to tear me apart.
I dodged lightly, but my body was still too weak and immature to face a beast of its size.
Each step it took caused the ground beneath me to shake, and my breaths quickened with every passing second.
I had no time to think. The aura that emanated from me was the only hope in that moment. A feeling of power surged through me, but it wasn’t enough.
The beast grew angrier, its roar echoing in my ears. Every time I tried to strike it, it easily dodged me.
“I’m just a newborn dragon!” I thought to myself. “There’s no way I can win if this fight continues.”
But in that moment, facing the beast, I stopped running. I felt something strange within my heart—something like determination I hadn’t realized existed.
I could have fled or hidden, but I chose to face this challenge.
After all, this creature was the greatest threat, and I had no choice but to defend myself, even though I was certain I would lose.
I understood what that feeling was:
It was the pride of a dragon.
What is happening to me? Will I let this feeling control my actions? I have human consciousness, but the pride deep within me pushes me toward death instead of fleeing.
I continued the battle, my mind in utter chaos.
My human consciousness urged me to run, but the pride of the dragon demanded that I face death rather than escape.
All I want now is to not shatter this pride…
And to stay alive.
