Humberto was a lean man with some muscle that had been developed thanks to the heavy lifting he had done at his previous and current jobs.
His hair was short and choppy to keep him as fresh as possible while he worked and he had a long straight nose that widened slightly towards the tip. His eyes were a captivating and enchanting black that pulled you in the more you looked at them, complimented by full lashes and eyebrows. With his caramel brown skin and his deep handsome features, Humberto captivated anyone who dared look at him, Including Maria.
Once Humberto was done washing up he changed into just a pair of shorts and applied a vanilla-scented cologne, the one his father had left behind. He took out his gift from the hiding spot and opened it again to admire it. Humberto lay down on his bed letting the setting sun brush up against his skin as he admired the shirt. He closed his eyes and began daydreaming about a life with Maria. Their engagement, the wedding, their home, and a family with her if she chose to.
As he continued daydreaming and planning his wedding a knock on the door and the sound of the door opening and closing interrupted his dream. “I brought you some fruit to eat, mama says to take the plate back when you're done,” Humberto's brother said.
“Thank you, Ricardo, I’ll take it back”
Ricardo noticed the shirt neatly lying out on Humberto's bed and sat next to it.
“Where did you get this from?”
“A gift”
“From the señorita Maria?”
Ricardo looked over at his brother and shook his head. “Ladies like her aren't for us hermano. You need to understand that they live in a different world and reality from us” he quietly said.
“Humberto, they don't belong in our world and we don't belong in theirs”
