Saturday
Maria woke up very early, extremely early. Although she didn't like to wake up early on a weekend, what annoyed her the most was that her dream with Humberto had ended. She tried to fall asleep again to continue with the fantasy, but she just couldn't. However, that was not the last time she dreamed about him.
She got up, and the first thing she did was to take a comb that she had on her bedside table and brushed her hair to remove the knots that had formed while she slept. When she finished, she went to take a shower and as she let the water find its way down Maria's body.
She got out of the shower and went to get dressed, when she was done Maria went to her dressing table. She sat down and carefully put on her jewelry. First, she started with some gold earrings that her mother had given her for her quinceañera, then with a gold necklace that had a diamond cross pendant.
When Maria finished with her jewelry, she went to put on her make-up, since it was very hot, she preferred to have something light but striking. Maria started with her eyebrows, she filled them in with a dark brown eyebrow pencil, never black for eyebrows.
First, she lined her eyelashes with a spoon that she had in her room for the exclusive use of her eyelashes. She never went out without that spoon and a compact mirror. She painted her upper and lower lashes with black mascara, took out a needle she also had just for her eyelashes, and began to delicately unravel the eyelashes that had gotten stuck together.
With her bottom lashes, Maria decided to take an eyebrow tweezer and pinched them together. She painted her lips with a brownish pink lipstick, and with that same lipstick, she used it for blush and smudged it until it left her cheeks a beautiful and delicate rose.
When Maria finished dressing she went downstairs to the kitchen and sat down to eat.
“Good morning, Rosario.”
“Good morning, girl. How did you sleep?” Rosario asked her as she served Maria breakfast. Maria sighed and smiled, “I slept well.”
Rosario finished serving the food and looked at Maria in detail. -But why did you get so dressed up if it's a Saturday? Where are you going or what?
“I can't get dressed up anymore? I just felt like it.”
“Yes, but you've been dressing up like that for a while now. I'm just asking why.”
Maria took a bite of her pan dulce and a sip of milk to think of an answer.
“Well, I would like to pay more attention to my grooming, and I can't throw so much beauty in the garbage,” Maria said to Rosario and winked.
“Okay, mija, well, you have breakfast and let me know if you need anything.”
Maria thanked her and continued eating. As she ate her breakfast, she thought about her dream from last night. Yesterday was a fantasy that came to her while she was sleeping, and in a few hours, maybe that beautiful dream would be erased.
