—Deep in the rainbow meadow, stretching farther than the eye can see—
The thin short man marched ahead, parting the grass with a sharp spear. The fat one followed behind, carrying a large burlap sack that twitched and wriggled.
Yes… Hamby was inside!
Inside the sack were candies, sweet treats, and brightly colored cookies—so tempting they made Hamby drool.
“Grrrowwwlll…” Hamby’s stomach rumbled. He squeezed his eyes shut, trying to hold back the hunger.
“Drip… drip…” A bit of drool landed on a pink milk toffee near his oversized paw.
He backed away, but the scent of sugar teased his nose mercilessly.
Slurp… slurp… He cautiously licked the sticky sugar off his paw… but his tongue accidentally brushed the soft candy. Just a little taste… and suddenly the whole toffee was nearly gone!
“Lucky me today! The Dog-Headed Wizard called me to help him brew a magic potion. He even gave me a magical reward!” said the voice outside the sack. Hamby froze.
“Really…? You’re lucky. I’ve worked for him for decades and only got bags of rice! What did you do to get a gift?” the fat one asked, smiling suspiciously.
“Because I’m smarter than you, that’s why! Hahaha!” the thin one cackled.
The fat man clenched his fists but continued walking.
“I delivered the ingredients just in time—and brought this one too!” he said, patting the sack. “I might even let you touch the magical stuff, just a bit! Hahaha!”
“Then let’s hurry to see the wizard!” the fat one urged.
The two quickened their pace toward the Village of the Three Mountains.
Their conversation drifted into the sack. Hamby gasped…
“A potion!? No way!!!”
His thoughts slipped into words—a tiny human voice came from inside!
—The two short men froze in their tracks.—
“Did you hear that? A voice—from the sack?” the fat one asked.
“Don’t tell me… I forgot?! It came from the sack! Open it! Open it now!” the thin one yelled.
Under the burlap’s shadow, Hamby trembled, his heart thudding so loud he could hear it himself.
He knew—if they discovered he wasn’t an ordinary dog, it wouldn’t just be a potion… He might become a never-ending experiment.
Inside that little sack hid a great heart—and a magical being who never wished to be. One small voice might change the fate of the forest.
—But would someone save Hamby in time?
