“Yes” it responded, echoing while the vision of that tomb disappeared. She accidentally hit her head on the concrete wall in front of her “Ouch! Bloody spirit…” she rubbed her forehead, trying to stop the pain. She was so angry her eyes had been hijacked by that spirit of the eclipse blade. She groaned, dropped her head, and walked towards the dormitory to her room. She felt how soft the ground was after the fragment’s attack on the campus.
The students, teachers and staff who got touched by the fragment were displayed by their final moments before it turned them into stone. Skyler felt sorry for them; they wouldn’t have a future. just, dead in rock hard and cold stone.
It felt like hours, walking down the 40 yards to get to the dormitory. She looked upwards, to the window of her dorm. Skyler saw the broken glass and the duvet covers that were dangling out of it.
She grimaced at the sight and swallowed her nerves as she grabbed onto the cover. She started to climb up to her room. Memories before the attack on the campus from the fragment hit her like a truck when she got there.
She walked across the floor which had shards of glass scattered across it. Carefully she studied the patterns of the glass and saw a path clear to her suitcase, which was slammed against the wall. She walked towards it carefully and got to it.
Skyler huffed while seeing that the suitcase was stuck on the wall. “Great” she sighed, she grabbed the suitcase and with a lot of force got it out of the wall, landing herself onto the floor clutching it. “Oof”.
Skyler pushed her suitcase off herself and stood up gracefully, brushed herself off and examined it. She couldn’t believe how intact it was, since the explosion had been quite massive. She felt annoyed that it wasn’t broken. “How the hell did it survive!” she shouted and rubbed her eyebrows with her fingers.
She picked it up and placed it onto her broken bed, opened the lid and took a look at her clothing situation. She sighed in relief. “Thank god my clothes didn’t get destroyed.” She zipped it back up and her watch started to buzz on her wrist.
It was a bit of an uncomfortable buzz. It made her feel nervous, since she didn’t really have any friends due to being the weakest. No one wanted to be associated with that name and her. Her forehead started to sweat profusely and it made her eyes blurry. She used her arm to whip the sweat from her eyes and forehead. While she did that, she saw the name propping up underneath the number: Justin Moonlight is calling.
Skyler pressed the answer button. There was a holographic image of Justin holding a steering wheel. He looked like he was driving. “Skyler, I'm just parking, are you ready?”
“Yes, most of my belongings weren’t destroyed in the attack.” She moved the suitcase along until she reached the door “but I haven’t done the protector form,” she said calmly. The engine noise from Justin’s side went quiet and a slamming noise was heard.
“I see, well I got my laptop so I can do it with you” he said while moving from his car towards Skyler’s dormitory. Justin walked down the cobblestone and entered the dormitory. He hummed until he got to the door of Skyler’s.
He knocked on it and Skyler opened it. "hello Justin" she said while Justin stood outside the open door. "good evening Miss Amberlight may I come in?" he asked, and Skyler nodded and stepped to the side while Justin walked in. Justin walked to her suitcase and put down his laptop on it, and opened it. He started the laptop and opened the form “There you go, Skyler,” he said while motioning with his hand. “Please put your date of birth and your magic in.” Skyler nodded and typed her date of birth and magic in the indicated places.
“Done,” Skyer said with a satisfied smile on her face. Justin chuckled “you remind me a lot of my girlfriend who’s working for the Aqua lawyers firm.” Skyler stepped back from his computer and looked surprised “really? What’s her name, because I might have met her while I was in hospital.” She had a glint of curiosity in her eye.
“Her name…” Justin started to smile happily while thinking about her “is Hannah Nightingale”. Skyler was surprised and grabbed his shoulders “did you say Hannah Nightingale,” he nodded “I met her! She was the one who gave me the letter about the wills of my parents! I need to pick them up.”
“Oh, I see” Justin said while Skyler shook him violently. “Stop, im going to be sick!”. She stopped. He sighed and tidied his coat. “Sorry,” Skyler sheepishly said, scratching her head.
Justin just shook his head, feeling like he just got a new younger sibling. He entered his protector ID and sent the form off. “Skyler, complete a mission with me, to see if you’re fit for high pressure and your detective instincts are good enough to be a protector”
Skyler smiled and nodded “right!” she said, while Justin turned off his laptop and took it off skyer’s suitcase. He placed it into his case, swung the strap over his shoulder. “Can you put my suitcase in your car justin?” Skyler asked while picking it up from the floor and putting it on the wheels. Justin looked at her and at the suitcase then back at skyler “sure” he said while starting to walk out the dorm, down the corridor; down the stairs while feeling if he would be a good instructor since this is the first ever student he brought under his wing.
When they made their way to the carpark, they saw the ghostly car park, before it was filled with student’s cars and vehicles but now there's none. Just a single bike and car which was theirs.
They got to Justin’s car and he opened the boot to put Skyler's suitcase into it. “Thank you” Skyler said with a smile while walking away to her bike. Her motorcycle was black with a stripe of purple around it.
She took her key from her pocket and inserted it into the keyhole to open her compartment which was under the seat.
She got out her leather jacket, rucksack and some gloves. Skyler put her handbag into the compartment, put on everything and pulled down the seat closing off the compartment.
Skyler turned the key that was still in the lock, locking it and pulled it out. Skyler looked over at Justin who was just sitting in his car waiting and watching her. She felt like an animal in a zoo.
She shook off that feeling, and turned her attention back to her bike. Her eyes drew to the handle bars. Which was covered in bumps and two little strands of metal that came out a bit from it. Which Skyler knew those were the brakes.
She saw that her helmet was buckled onto one of the handles. So she unbuckled it and the sound of the buckle was a small click that was almost not noticeable.
Skyler pulled it off the handlebars. “I hope I can remember how to ride it’s been a week” she whispered and chuckled at the lack of going for it.
She took a breath, and put the helmet on. Skyler’s hair got squeezed onto her head while putting it on. She felt like a pufferfish, because of the squishiness of it. Skyler threw her leg over and her right foot fell onto the ground on the other side of the bike.
Skyler slid her bum onto the cushion to make herself feel more comfortable and secure on it. Then she pulled down the visor which dimmed the colours of the surroundings. Skyler felt more confident about driving her bike since it was quite bright before.
