On the day of the escape, Jake had to go for his fight. Elizabeth and Rayla wished him luck, and sent him off to battle. He picked up his weapons, said goodbye, and stepped into the battle field.
As the sun bore onto him, he saw his opponent, the only contender who's been here the longest, since the start of the game, Jonathan. (Nickname: Rolling stone)
"Fuck" Jack mumbled as Jonathan came bolting at him. Jack dodged his attack and tried to fight back, but his blade wouldn't penetrate his armour (yes he had armour).
"Scared, Jack? How's your wife doing? Heard she got out of the hospital a few days ago. Really hope u get to see her" Jonathan teased. "It'd be a shame if she never saw you again." He attacked again with his spiked, bloody club, nearly hitting Jack's head as he dodged.
"Don't talk about my wife that way" Jack said, fuming. He looked for weak spots, any where his armour didn't cover. It was like his whole body was made of solid rock. "There had to be a weak spot" Jack thought to himself while dodging more of his attacks. "There had to be somewhere he'd get hurt." Then, he realised. He picked up his bow and arrow, and aimed at his eyes, the only spot not covered with armour.
As he pulled his drawstring tighter, Jonathan bolted at him to deliver his "boss fight move" (yes he called it that). As Jonathan came closer and closer, Jack waited for the perfect moment to attack. When he was merely inches away, Jack shot his arrow. The arrow came rushing toward Jonathan, going straight toward his eyes, the most vital part of him.
As the arrow rushed towards him, and Jack prepared for his next move, Jonathan caught it, inches away from his face. "Your little tricks don't work on me. I've seen this move a million times."
While Jack stared in disbelief, Jonathan attacked once more. Jack dodged and dodged, looking for some type of opening, while Jonathan slammed his club to the ground, in an attempt to hit Jack.
When it seemed like all hope was lost, Jack remembered everything. Everything that happened before the crash, how Elizabeth was friends with him, everything. He also remembered why he was so good at fighting.
As he dodged his attacks again, Jack smiled. Not in defeat, in delight. Jonathan froze as he saw the devilish smiled that crossed Jack's face. Jack stood up straight, and stared into Jonathan's eyes, as he continued to smile in that horrific way. "What's wrong with you?!??!" Jonathan screamed as he realised who he was facing. "You should've died without knowing, just like all the others!!!" "SAY SOMETHING YOU FREAK, STOP STARING AT ME LIKE-" "You've killed, haven't you?" Jack interrupted. "Have you ever felt, free while doing so? Like a heavy weight was lifted off your shoulders. Say, you seem to know a lot about this sick and twisted game-"
"I know nothing."
"Sure u don't." Jack thought for a while before speaking up again "Aren't you gonna attack? Aren't you gonna kill me? Aren't you gonna make me pay for...her?"
"No, that couldn't be you." Jonathan said in disbelief. "You couldn't have-"
"I did" Jack answered. "And she was delicious."
"Stop talking"
"Her tender meat, so delicious."
"Shut up"
"Her skin made a nice leather bag."
"Shut up"
"I really put Brenda to good use."
"I SAID SHUT UP" Jonathan striked Jack, hitting him in the head hard enough to kill.
Jack's lifeless body lied there, his smile still intact, with blood pooled around him. As Jonathan stared at the man who killed his lover, he fell to the ground, his knees weakened with grief. "I'm sorry" he whispered. "I'm so sorry my dear. I sent him down without torture. I gave him a quick death. I broke my promise. I'm sorry."
As the news travelled toward the group like wildfire, Elizabeth broke down, crying. She lost her best friend, the only person who cared before Sydney. They were allowed to see his dead body before it was sent down to the morgue, as they were the only ones close to him.
But when they saw the smile, they knew what had happened. Elizabeth froze, not in horror, in recognition. She recognized that crazed smile, and she knew it well. She knew it all too well. As she cried in Rayla's arms, she felt at peace. That smile helped her in some way. That smile reassured her, that her best friend went down happy. So, so happy.
