Heirs of High Society

Chapter III: THE GIRL WHO WALKED INTO WAR

[Continuation:]

Four billion credits rerouted in a silent instant. Not earned. Not gained. But saved—from a predictive failure that would’ve shattered the upcoming quarter’s projections.

When she finished, she took one slow step back. Victor stared at the projection. Then at her.

She expected reprimand. Expected removal. What she didn’t expect was the silence.

Victor stood slowly. Walked to the board. Tapped a command. The room blinked.

"Miss Coven," he said. "Do you know what you've just done?"

She swallowed. "No, sir."

"You saved LUXGEN four billion credits. And revealed a foundational flaw in our flagship algorithm."

He looked at the others. Then back at her.

"You’ve just bought yourself a scholarship. And a war."

"What do you mean, sir?" Leiéa asked, her voice tight with uncertainty.

Victor didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he flicked his fingers. The room darkened. Attendees began gathering their datapads. Some lingered—reluctant, stunned. But Victor’s glance was final. One by one, they filtered out.

Only Jade Croxley remained beside him—Deputy CEO, sharp-eyed, obsidian-blazer, the quiet razor.

The last to leave turned—a reporter.

- HoloBox -

@InsiderNox: BREAKING: Girl prodigy stuns LUXGEN's Board. Rewrites senior analyst codebase in real time. Stared down Victor Albrecht Lysander . Didn't flinch.

A Calculated Promotion

Victor paced, the echo of his footsteps bouncing across the glass-fiber floor.

"You’ve exposed a flaw in a system we use to predict defense stock collapses in high-volatility conflict zones. Do you understand what that means, Miss Coven?"

"No, sir," she said, her voice steady but quiet.

"That flaw would've cost us four billion credits—this quarter alone. You saw a pattern no senior analyst did. That’s more than insight, that’s tactical cognition."

Jade Croxley stepped forward. Immaculate. cold as cut glass.

"What he's saying is: you need a team. A division. Your own clearance level."

Leiéa blinked. "I don’t—"

You do," Victor cut her off sharply. "Jade agrees. We’re promoting you to Head of Psionic Prototype Stability. Your task: audit, stabilize, and convert high-failure experimental technologies in the gifted sector. This is more than a job—it’s war."

Victor paused, watching Leiéa absorb the words. Then he glanced sidelong at Jade. "Didn’t that prick in Psionic Prototype Stability, whatcha’me call him…Redborne resign four weeks ago due to PRA allegations?"

Jade rolled her eyes and slapped him lightly on the arm. "Stop it," she said, laughing under her breath. "Not in front of the prodigy."

But there was warmth there—an undercurrent of history, of unspoken worry. A rare softness in the steel of power."

He let it hang. Then added:

"You’ll also be studying at Legacy Court Academy. Your recommendation was accepted this morning. Half your week is ours. Half is theirs."

A flicker crossed Leiéa’s face. Not fear. Calculation.

Victor folded his arms. "We believe you're Gifted. We just don't know what you are yet."

The room seemed to pulse. Somewhere beneath her skin, she swore something responded.

She exhaled. "Then let’s find out."

Choosing Michael Tierney

When she first walked into LUXGEN as an intern, the air changed. Most didn’t like it.

"Another pretty prodigy," someone muttered. "She’s too young to know what she’s doing." "Watch her. She’s Lysander's new pet."

Men underestimated her. Women side-eyed her. Every mistake became gossip. Every success became a fluke. The whispers burned through the department like static.

But Michael Tierney didn’t flinch.

He was lean, sharp-jawed, brown-skinned, his presence composed like drawn steel. A quiet aura clung to him—combat-type Gifted, unmistakably. He ran Intern Combat-Tech and bore the weight of it with disciplined grace, like a man who knew the value of restraint in a world worshipping force.

He spoke little. Listened more. His eyes held the weariness of someone who’d seen conflict without ever showing scars. Leiéa noticed how he never joined in the jabs, never laughed with the pack. And when the office jokes turned vicious, he stood in the silence until they stopped. Tempered respect—he carried it like armor.

She saw him at the gym one night, hitting the bag with brutal rhythm. Sweat rolled from his temple in lines. His strikes were clean, controlled.

"You're Leiéa," he said, pausing mid-combo. "Victor’s wildcard."

"You're Tierney. The only one who doesn’t flinch around me."

They sparred. She bruised. He bled. No pity. No caution. Just steel meeting fire. When he knocked her off balance once, he offered a hand.

"We learn fastest by losing first," he murmured.

But now…today…when Victor said, "Choose your assistant," she didn’t hesitate.Only one Person came to mind.

"Powerful Psionics and Combat…Are we Entering Weapon’s Dev at LUXGEN." - Michael Tierney

Building the Team

Legacy Court Academy. No longer public education, unlike the public institutes she'd attended before. This was the crucible of the elite. Combat theory. Noble law. Political rhetoric. Resonance calibration. Lessons tailored not for learning—but for ruling. For shaping presence, poise, and projection.

Students arrived in tailored uniforms sewn with house sigils, their names already etched into dynastic history. Most were born to lineages older than the city-state itself—silver-spoon heirs, corporate barons-in-training, scions of military dynasties or diplomatic bloodlines.

She wasn’t.

They called Legacy Court an academy. But it was more than that. It was a proving ground. A game of politics, perception, and raw Gift potential. And Leiéa was about to step into it—unclaimed, unaffiliated, and entirely untested.

Work (2 days/week):
LUXGEN Corp. Executive R&D. She was tasked with stabilizing critical psionic systems—volatile, often dangerous prototypes too unstable for market or field deployment. Victor gave her a department to lead: Psionic Prototype Stability. And with it, instructions.

"Convert. Stabilize. Deliver."

Her mandate was clear. She was to rescue what others had failed to salvage, starting with the crumbling archives of defunct psi-tech experiments. From these, she would build viable infrastructure—and perhaps an empire.

To do this, she selected her leadership team:

  • Michael Tierney, Executive PA and Deputy Head. A combat-type Gifted with disciplined energy signature control. Steady, tactical, her confidant and shield in equal measure.

  • Becky Norwright, Project Manager. Practical, organized, ruthless with deadlines. A former field-engineer turned logistics specialist.

  • Elijah Muren, Technical Lead, known as the 'Geek Squad' head. Young, brilliant, Gifted with precision-based code augmentation and prototype interface binding.

  • Emiria Vass, Legal Affairs Manager. Calm, silver-tongued, and born from a minor noble house, Emiria specialized in prototype compliance law and intercorp intellectual warfare.

They were a patchwork of trust and tension. Some respected her. Some watched her. All answered to her.

Among her first initiatives: the MARSProject—a resurrection of her father’s abandoned designs. Mars had once scribbled energy diagrams on takeaway menus, dreaming of stabilizers that could calm urban Gift surges. She found the files. She made them real.

First came psionic dampeners for civilian zones. Then multi-spectrum perception visors for fieldwork.
Now, the Board called her innovations “mission-essential.”

She called them: love letters to a man who never stopped trying.

Codex Entry: SYMPHONIC INTELLIGENCE & GILDED CHORUS

Subject: Mars Armitage - Affiliation: Clockwright Union - Gift Class: Technopathy (Auditory-Tactile Subtype)

GIFT DESIGNATION: Symphonic Intelligence

"He doesn't program systems. He harmonizes with them."

Mars Armitage's power is not control—it's communion. His Gift, termed Symphonic Intelligence, enables him to perceive mechanical systems and artificial constructs as if they were musical compositions. Each circuit emits a frequency. Each voltage, a tone. To him, engines hum in minor chords, routers pulse in arpeggios, and failing servos scream in dissonant spikes.

This sensory translation allows Mars to instinctively diagnose errors, interpret code rhythms, and predict systemic breakdowns before they happen. While he cannot override fully sentient AIs, he can emotionally "nudge" passive or semi-autonomous systems into coherence.

Visual Cue: When focused, ethereal blue lines resembling soundwave-traced veins illuminate across his arms and fingertips, pulsing in sync with nearby systems.

Scope:

  • Direct interface with GraviSeries floors, Iris-fold doors, and holographic walls

  • Empathic resonance with smart homes, security grids, neural uplinks

  • Able to "hear" emotional feedback from AI personalities (e.g., Ben the fridge)

Societal Impact: Mars's architecture forms the backbone of modern Legacy Core buildings. His neural resonance frameworks are embedded in the foundations of government towers, archive vaults, and arbitration halls. More crucially, his long-standing partnership with Kai Kincaid resulted in the creation of the Zeta Matrix Defense Protocols—a multi-tiered AI-synchronized defense architecture now standard across all sovereign warfronts. Originally conceived as a failsafe for psionic surges and technopathic warfare, Zeta Matrix units are now deployed in everything from urban riot prevention to orbital breach management. Whispered rumors even suggest its underlying code was sourced from Artemis's early developmental scaffolding, making the Armitage household unintentionally one of the first testbeds for next-gen war defense logic.

Subject: Erisa Hearthrone - Affiliation: Sovereign Wellness Council

Gift Class: Synthesis(Neuroemotive Subclass)

GIFT DESIGNATION: Gilded Chorus

"She doesn't argue. She resonates."

Erisa's Gift, Gilded Chorus, is less visible but arguably more influential than any psionic assault. Through emotive projection, Erisa can alter the affective atmosphere of any room she inhabits. Her voice, layered with sub-harmonic frequencies, interacts directly with the limbic systems of those around her.

The result?

Calm where there was panic. Focus in place of confusion. Unity instead of dissent.

She must feel the emotion she projects—her empathy is the vector. Anger can inspire resistance. Grief can forge solidarity. Hope can rally the uncertain.

Visual Cue: Her voice takes on multi-layered octaves. It is felt more than heard, like a tuning fork humming inside your chest.

Scope:

  • Psychological harmonization of high-conflict environments

  • De-escalation during Gifted outbursts

  • Performance amplification in allied Gifted individuals

Societal Impact: Erisa's Gift has led to new standards in political negotiation chambers, especially during volatile inheritance hearings and Legacy Court disputes. Some say her presence alone is enough to prevent bloodshed. Others whisper that she has never once raised her voice to win. Her influence stretches beyond the chamber—doubling as a respected B-list actress with a loyal cult following and a locally elected Member of Parliament within the Sovereign Wellness Council, Erisa blends celebrity charisma with political grace. Her public appearances, both on-screen and in legislative hearings, have shaped key empathy-forward policies, and she is often cited as the leading voice behind the Emotional Equilibrium Doctrine—a national initiative designed to reduce Gift-based escalations in urban centers. Her dual career adds mystique to her persona; where most wield status, she emanates presence.

PERSONAL DYNAMICS IN THE ARMITAGE HOUSEHOLD:

Together, Mars and Erisa operate like dual anchors in the emotional-technical spectrum of their family. Mars harmonizes the world’s machines; Erisa synchronizes its people. Their synergy creates a living home where tigers lounge beside sentient fridges, and chrome-sister AIs trade jabs over breakfast.

Artemis, the sentient AI daughter-sister hybrid co-created by Mars and Leiéa, plays both foil and confidante. Her personality merges dry intellect with familial loyalty. In many ways, the house itself is a living testament to these powers:

  • Retrofits adapt to emotional atmosphere shifts

  • Lighting and wall projections adjust to household biorhythms

  • Digital wildlife reacts to Artemis's mood, Leiéa’s aura, or Mars’s subconscious impulses

Closing Note: In a world obsessed with hierarchy and power through dominance, the Armitage model thrives on resonance, not rule. It is a reminder that true power is not about control—but calibration.
