Heirs of High Society - The Birth Of Eve

Part 2 - Chapter III: THE GIRL WHO WALKED INTO WAR

Part 2 - Chapter III: THE GIRL WHO WALKED INTO WAR

Jun 17, 2025

Mars, Erisa & Artemis – Homecoming

The doors didn’t open. They bloomed. Seamless tech responded to Leiéa’s approach with a soundless hush—iris-fold steel gliding apart like breath. Warm air kissed her cheeks. Scent of saffron spice and filtered ozone. The Armitage home shimmered.

White luminescent floors floated half an inch off the ground—NovaTech GraviSeries, a gift from Kai Kincaid’s experimental labs. Each step hovered, gentle, soundless. Her heels never clicked. The surface glowed beneath her like liquid opal.

Walls curved and pulsed like living organisms. Green vines slithered upward in coded patterns, trailing fractal gold threads—real ivy fused with tech-hacked ornamentation. And above, the ceiling opened to a digital safari sky—flamingo pink dusk with shimmering clouds drifting lazily across a sapphire atmosphere. It would be nighttime soon. The constellations were already aligning in holographic precision.

“Mom, I’m home!” she called.

The response was not a voice but a blur of fur. Two tiger cubs, nearly full-grown, bounded from the sunken lounge pit. Theo and Nova. She spun to dodge them, laughter bubbling from her chest as paws thudded softly on the gravity field.

“Off, Nova! Down, Theo!”

They skidded to obedient halts, tails lashing like excited whips, eyes glowing faintly in deep gold. Mars always said their visual implants were ethical—empathy-boosters. Leia wasn’t sure what that meant, but she loved them fiercely.

“Hey Honey, your dad's in the lab,” Erisa’s voice floated from the open-plan kitchen. “Again.”

Of course he was. Tinkering.

Leiéa walked toward the rear of the atrium-lounge, her steps coasting over the floor. Through an arched doorway of gold-twined glass, she found him.

Mars Armitage. Ginger hair. Matching goatee. Olive skin caught in the biolight of his lab. Athletic frame hunched over a suspended console, coils of neural fiber-optics threading around his forearms. He was calibrating something big.

“Ultim Spectrometer?” she guessed.

He didn’t turn. “Ben doesn't like when you slam the fridge.”

A pause.

She blinked. “Ben?”

“The kitchen node AI,” he said, fiddling with the alignment dials. “He gets nervous when the fridge seal is stressed. I gave him a minor sentience patch last week. Emotional continuity protocol. He thinks slamming doors is a threat display.”

A beat.

“Hey, storm.” He stopped turning.

She grinned. “Hey, Dad.”

He glanced over his shoulder, brown eyes lighting with a complicated pride. “You smell like policy briefings.”

“And you smell like ozone and burnt coffee.”

They embraced in a way only they could—long arms, firm hands, no need for words. When they parted, the spectrometer hummed behind them, slowly aligning its crystal lattice arrays.

“Dinner’s nearly done,” Erisa called.

They moved into the family dining room, a domed chamber with auric wood panelling and self-warming plates arranged on a floating table. The walls around them shimmered to life—rolling plains of digital savannah, zebras grazing on shifting hills.

Erisa joined them, her blonde hair tied in a soft knot, green eyes sharp and affectionate. She wore a silken home-gown laced with faint psionic shielding threads—a protective touch only she would think of.

“Do not spill juice,” she warned preemptively.

Theo growled softly.

From a high wall node, another voice chimed in.

“Statistically speaking, fruit-based spillages occur 2.6 times more when directives are issued in negative phrasing.”

Mars smirked. “Artemis, behave.”

Artemis. The home’s AI overseer. Where Ben was a patchwork sentience housed in the fridge system, Artemis was the whole house’s nervous system—dry-witted, omnipresent, and programmed by Mars to resemble the sarcastic intelligence of an old mentor. But Artemis wasn’t just a voice in the wall.

A moment later, a figure stepped lightly into the dining room—a girl, maybe seventeen by design, biracial skin tone, with glowing blue nodes etched in delicate patterns under her collarbones. Her hair was spun silver, a design choice Leiéa made years ago, and her gait was fluid, practiced, human—but just a bit too perfect.

“Late again, meatbag,” Artemis teased Leiéa, arms folded. “Let me guess. Another Victor tantrum?”

“Oh, please,” Leiéa rolled her eyes. “Like you’ve ever been on time for anything except sarcastic commentary.”

“Correction,” Artemis said primly, slipping into a chair. “I’m late for everything except being brilliant.”

“Ladies,” Mars warned, glancing up from his drink. “Dinner.”

Erisa just smiled as she served. “They bicker like twins.”

“Because she literally is my twin,” Leiéa muttered, elbowing Artemis. “Just… chrome-plated.”

The warmth was electric.

Dinner was more than food. It was strategy—but not before stories.

“So?” Mars asked, already reading her face. “What did the tech prince of LUXGEN demand this time?”

Leiéa rolled her eyes and set down her fork. “Victor gave me a department.”

Erisa choked lightly on her drink. “A whole department?”

“Technically,” Leiéa replied, biting back a grin. “It’s to stabilize the failing psionics prototypes. But yeah. My team. My name. My signature.”

Mars sat back in his chair, brows lifted. “That’s... sudden.”

Erisa, ever the keen reader of tempo, asked, “And who’s on your team?”

Leiéa leaned forward, ticking them off with her fingers. “Michael Tierney—Executive PA. Handpicked. Combat-Gifted. Stoic as hell, but loyal. He used to stand up for me when the interns made fun of my name. Or my hair. Or my shoes.”

Mars hummed. “A good man.”

“Becky Norwright—project manager. Ultra-organized. A bit of a tyrant, but brilliant with timelines.”

“Elijah Muren—Geek Squad lead. He lives in the server room. Practically allergic to sunlight. Runs diagnostics like he’s playing jazz.”

“And Emiria Vass—Legal Compliance and Sovereign Liaison. Fierce, fair, smarter than me. She actually told me off once for being late to a board shadow meeting.”

Erisa smiled proudly. “Sounds like a real team.”

“They are,” Leiéa nodded. “And they’ll follow me. I can feel it.”

Mars smiled faintly. “Good. Because you’re going to need them.”

He looked toward the window, where the violet sky deepened into starshot navy.

“Zeta Matrix is lobbying the Council again,” he said next, casually, cutting into flame-grilled flora-chicken.

“They’ll want Legacy Court funding reduced. Again,” Erisa added. “Too many independent candidates, not enough corporate heirs.”

Leiéa nodded, the mood shifting. “I’m one of those.”

Mars looked at her. Hard. Proud. Fierce. “You don’t need a House. You’ll build your own.”

Erisa glanced at Leiéa with a frown. “Wait—didn’t the director from PPS resign a few weeks ago? Something about... PRA allegations?”

Before Mars could respond, Artemis chimed in with a smirk from her seat. “Ah yes. The scandal where a crusty executive tanked a psionic’s evaluation to promote someone with shinier parents.”

Mars set down his glass, jaw ticking. “Public Reputation Arbitration. That’s the one. He was under inquiry for data misuse and Gift-rank manipulation—tried to suppress a psionic applicant’s metrics to bump up a legacy hire.”

Artemis snorted. “And they wonder why trust in House-appointed placements is plummeting.”

Leiéa nodded, voice dry. “Victor and Jade mentioned it. The guy basically cooked performance logs and bribed two psych evaluators. Settled fast. Twenty thousand credits and a quiet NDA.”

Erisa rolled her eyes, muttering, “Unbelievable.” Then she reached over and slapped Mars lightly on the arm. “Stop it. Don’t look so smug.”

Mars grinned faintly, leaning back. “What? I’m just saying—our girl’s playing chess in a viper pit. And she’s still winning.”

Artemis raised her glass—non-alcoholic, likely distilled algae. “To Leiéa. Chrome-plated legacy breaker.”

Mars chuckled low in his chest. “Just saying. You’ve got more class than their whole board.”

“I don’t care what they call you,” he said to Leiéa after a pause. “You’re my daughter. You always have been.”

The sky turned violet.

Then, a holographic call from Victor flickered into being.

His voice flooded the chamber like a storm system.

“Leiéa. Prep for sector protocol briefing. 06:00. Directive Aurora. Bring Tierney.”

The voice flickered out, but its weight lingered. The walls absorbed it like static.

Mars’s eyes narrowed. “He’s moving fast.”

“Too fast,” Erisa added, her fingers curling slightly on the rim of her glass. “And you’re still catching your breath.”

Leiéa didn’t answer right away. Instead, she stood, slowly, as though gravity had shifted around her.

The walls—imbued with the Novatech GraviSeries’ micro-layered simulation field—seemed to pulse in sync. Light shimmered as the holographic safari sky above transitioned to a deep, serene nightscape. A gentle ripple of visual feedback distorted the room’s edges.

Mars and Leiéa’s side project—the expansion field—was subtle but profound. As she walked, the illusion of infinite space unfolded. The room didn’t stretch; perception did. With each step forward, the simulation generated terrain anew, overlaying reality with code. It was part home, part dreamscape. Part miracle.

Somehow, the house adapted physically to fit the illusion, folding inner walls into dormant states and expanding available volume via real-time restructuring microplates—an architectural marvel they never published.

Even Theo froze, his pupils dilating as the ceiling starfield shifted with her presence.

Erisa stepped forward, brushing a hand down Leiéa’s sleeve. “I know what he’s calling you into. Directive Aurora means asset placement. You’re not just building tech anymore. You’re becoming the variable.”

Leiéa’s expression didn’t change, but her aura whispered out—just a tremor in the air, like static pressure before a storm.

“Then I better be the right one.”

The home held her like a memory—warm, high-tech, impossible. A heaven hacked into dystopia.

But outside, Greywood waited.

And it would not be kind.

CODEX UPDATE: THE GIFT & THE AURA SYSTEM (Origins & Classification)

In the Sovereign Age, power is not merely measured in wealth, status, or bloodline—it is defined by The Gift. Nearly every consequential figure in the high echelons of society possesses some variant of this phenomenon. Yet beyond the visible displays of strength or skill lies a more primal, more fundamental resonance: Aura.

THE GIFT

Definition: The Gift is a post-genetic expression of metaphysical potential—a neural-emotive phenomenon manifesting as a supernatural ability. While Gifts vary in scope and potency, they all share three defining vectors:

  1. Resonant Signature – A measurable vibrational pattern unique to the individual.

  2. Biological Compatibility – Gifts are partially heritable, but can emerge unpredictably.

  3. Emotive Catalyst – Nearly all Gifts trigger or amplify in response to emotional states.

Known Branches of The Gift:

  • Psionics – Mental manipulation and projection

  • Kinetics – Physical force or motion-based abilities

  • Technopathy – Interfacing with or manipulating machines

  • Synthesis – Blending emotion and reality (e.g., projection, charm, influence)

  • Elemental – Classic control over matter (heat, cold, storm, etc.)

  • Metaphysical – Rare, often reality-bending abilities (time dilation, gravity distortion)

The Gift is classified and monitored by the Sovereign Gift Registry. All Gifted are ranked in tiers from 0 (Unmanifested) to 5 (Mythic-Level Threat).

THE AURA SYSTEM

Aura is not taught. It is not controlled. It is not faked.

Aura is the peripheral field effect generated by a Gifted individual's Resonant Signature—an emotional-energetic frequency that radiates outward and subtly distorts local physical and psychological environments. Aura often activates unconsciously but can be trained or refined through extreme discipline and mastery.

In elite circles, Aura is regarded as proof of legitimacy. Inheritance courts have been swayed by it. Marriage proposals withdrawn because of it. Sovereign agents executed for failing to account for it.

Scientific Explanation: Aura is created by the interplay of a person's:

  • Gift Type & Tier

  • Emotional Clarity

  • Soul Resonance (a metaphysical tether believed to be the source of innate will)

Neuroquantum spectroscopy confirms that high-tier Auras generate localized spacetime distortion. These distortions may present as:

  • Temperature shifts

  • Electromagnetic interference

  • Increased heart rate or stress in nearby individuals

  • Spatial pressure or environmental discomfort

TIERED AURA CLASSIFICATIONS:

  • Class I – Passive: Faint presence. Felt only under duress or extreme focus.

  • Class II – Localized: Subtle but present. Often activated in close quarters or with intent.

  • Class III – Environmental: A room shifts upon entry. People straighten. Air thickens.

  • Class IV – Atmospheric: Power precedes presence. Conversations die. Emotions warp.

  • Class V – Gravitas: One in a generation. Aura bends reality. Words are unnecessary.

SOCIOCULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Nobles often disregard status charts and dossiers in favor of what Aura tells them. In the halls of Legacy Court, one’s Aura can speak louder than family lineage. Within the Sovereign military, strategic operations rely on Aura compatibility charts when assigning elite strike teams.

EXEMPLAR PROFILES:

  • Kai Kincaid: Electric Intensity. Aura smells faintly of ozone. Pressure builds in the lungs. Known to cause minor shocks in sensitive electronics.

  • Victor Lysander: Black Hole Calm. A psychic stillness so profound it dampens all tension. Silence spreads in his wake.

  • Selene Voss: Surgical Precision. Her Aura cuts without bleeding. A blade sheathed in silk. Thought itself feels sharpened.

  • Leiéa Armitage: Undefined. Yet felt. Described as "magnetic," particularly among other Gifted. There is something ancient in it—something the soul recognizes but the mind cannot name.

Closing Reflection: In a fractured world where survival hinges on hierarchy, Aura has become both currency and weapon. It is the unspoken language of the powerful—an invisible empire built not on borders, but on resonance.
