Border between you and me

The border between you and me : Prologue Princess of third world country

The border between you and me : Prologue Princess of third world country

Jun 20, 2025

This is My Letter to You, Abelard Sent it   to him yes your hightness

To Duke Abelard,

This is my final letter to you, Abelard—the one person who might remember me as more than a political tool. I was born insignificant, yet now I am forced to play a part in ending this endless war. I wonder if anyone will remember me when it's all over.

“Mama, is that cotton candy in the sky?”

That’s what one of my maid’s children once asked. But that day, it wasn’t cotton candy. It was smoke. Thick, black clouds blocked out the sun, covering the sky above the Kingdom of Varantia.

This nation is ruled not by its king, but by a puppet prime minister—Misha, the only daughter of the powerful Shin family. This family controls everything: the parliament, the senate, even the Supreme Court. Their word is law. Other politicians grovel at their feet, licking their boots in hopes of favors. Justice, honor, democracy—these are meaningless in a country ruled by corruption.

I am Princess Varentina of Varantia, the first daughter of the late king. I have seen all of this, and I could do nothing. I have two brothers: Crown Prince Casanova, the heir, and Prince Rowe, second in line to the throne. As a noblewoman, I was raised to believe that my only worth was in serving a husband and bearing children. Our lives are nothing compared to the freedom men enjoy. They can do anything they wish to their wives and children. Their commands are absolute.

If a woman disobeys, she is cast out. Education is limited for women, even though we claim to be a democracy. I lived quietly, until one day, I discovered something that changed everything.

This world... is a novel.

A story called The Scarlet Rose of Varantia. It follows Princess Varentina—me. A tragic villainess. She is born with hemophilia, so even a small cut could mean death. But in this world, the condition can be managed with medicine. She is treated harshly by everyone, especially her own family. When Varantia loses the war, she is sent as a hostage to the enemy empire.

There, she is married to Chancellor Val, who wants to control the empire from the shadows. He uses her image and reputation. But eventually, he falls in love with her. Still, she is consumed by vengeance. She kills everyone who betrayed her—even her family. But then, the protagonist, Anastasia, appears and foils her plan. With Crown Prince Hartmann, they stop Val's revolution. In the end, Princess Varentina is sentenced to death by poison. She dies alone and unloved.

That is my fate.

We live apart from ordinary people, inside castle walls. I rarely had the chance to go outside. I spent my free time reading, writing, and using the internet. My life was quiet. Until the bombing.

It was Sunday, 2099.

The Charmonia Empire launched an airstrike on Thamanopolite, our capital. On Green Hill Cliffs, they dropped a new weapon—a cylinder that, when it hit the ground, created a shockwave that killed thousands in seconds. That was the end of World War III.

The history books call it a victory. The end of a conflict between two dominant powers: the Central Axis, led by Charmonia and Britia, and the Rebel Alliance of Athanasia and the puppet Kingdom of Varantia. But the war was never about justice. Thousands died. Women and children were left in poverty.

My country surrendered. And now, I must pay the price. The Shin family decided to send me as a political hostage. Even my own family did nothing to stop it. Perhaps this is better than staying in a dying kingdom.

By the time you read this, I will be gone.

They sentenced me to death, Abelard. Sent me to die in a foreign empire for crimes I did not commit. But I won’t have to marry you anymore. You didn’t like me, did you? So you shouldn't be sad. This is goodbye, my only friend. I hope you live a wonderful life.

Varentina of Varantia

"Your Highness Princess Varentina, please get into the car. It's time to board for the Charmonia Empire."

This is it. Time to leave everything behind.

The car stopped at the train station, where Charmonia's Chancellor had sent soldiers to escort me. The smell of war was thick in the air. I had only seen it through news and from windows, but now, I saw its hollow, burned remains up close. I brought with me only a pen, a notebook, and some clothes.

Then it happened.

A gunshot. Tires screeched. The driver and my guard were hit instantly. Bullets rained from all directions. A gun dropped nearby. I picked it up. If I have to die, let me choose how.

A man in military uniform opened the door.

"Your Highness, I’m not the one who attacked you. Please, put the gun down."

"I don’t trust you. If you get any closer, I’ll shoot myself."

"Please don’t be rash. The Chancellor ordered us to bring you back alive. We’re not here to hurt you."

He grabbed the gun from me. Others surrounded me.

"Who are you? What do you want from me?"

"We’re soldiers of the Charmonia Empire. Our orders are to bring you safely to the Chancellor."

I tried to escape. I used a hair clip to pick the handcuffs.

"Princess, I advise you not to do anything reckless," one officer said calmly. "What’s that in your hand?"

"Nothing," I lied.

"You can call me Adrian," he added. "These are Eward and Hanz. Please, don’t make this harder."

Then came another attack.

"Master, they’re coming! Everyone stay back!"

Gunfire. Chaos.

"Sorry, Your Highness, but we need to move."

"You can't carry me like this!"

"Hanz, I’ll handle her!"

I was dragged away as a hostage.

"Don’t move! If you shoot, she dies!"

"They don’t even care if I die..."

"Kill them all! We’ll report her as already dead!"

I was shoved onto a military plane.

"Drink this, Princess. It will help you sleep."

"Is it poison?"

"No. Look, I’ll drink from it too. See? It’s safe."

I drank.

Sleep came slowly.

Tomorrow, I would arrive in the empire. I don’t know what they want from me. I don’t know what my future holds. But I know one thing:

I will not die easily. I will find a way home.

No matter what it takes.
