Upon landing on Avion, the Team starts asking for directions for the Tournament. As they do so, they stumble across a seven foot tall Bruton named Garon. They at first assume that Garon is a Federation agent. But this assumption is disputed when Garon points the them in the direction of the Tournament. That’s when Garon let the Team know that they are also competing in the Tournament.
“I heard there was a Tournament in this city so I decided to participate. If you’re aiming for the top, you got to start at the local level.” Says Garon, their accent noticeable to Ava and Lucian.
“Well thanks for the directions and sorry about the assumptions earlier.” Lucian says apologetically.
“Can’t really blame you. Given the Federation’s reputation, people would be hesitant to confront a Bruton. But there are those who see the Federation for what it is, a falling regime clinging to power. It why my parents left our home world for Avion.” Says Garon.
“Still, it was wrong to assume so the least we can do is head for the Tournament together.” Says Ava apologetically.
Afterwards, Lucian and Ava make their way towards the Tournament with Garon and their respective mechs. Along the way, Garon decides to start a conversation in hopes of better know their opponent.
“So, what brings you two to this Tournament?” Asks Garon, trying to lighten the mood.
“We intend to become galactic champions. We’re aiming for the big leagues of the mech battle scene.” Says Lucian with confidence in his voice.
“I see. Just so you know, the mech battles will only get tougher as you climb the ranks. If you intend to be champions, you better make sure you win your matches.” Says Garon.
“What can we say? When we win, people will know we mean business.” Says Ava.
“Don’t get too cocky. Most don’t make it past the first round. So be sure you can back up that claim.” Says Garon.
Eventually, Lucian, Ava, and Garon arrive at the Tournament. As they enter the stadium, Ava notices Garon’s mech Jotun. A modified G0-R0 unit that resembles the Battle Kong from a few months ago, albeit with some alterations. One by one, the combatants sign up for the Tournament and enter their rooms to wait for their match to start. While in the waiting room, Fenrir and Valkyrie decide to start a conversation via telecommunications.
“So, what do you think Garon’s mech is capable of?” Asks Fenrir.
“Beats me. If I had to guess, given its similarity to the Battle Kong, its likely has rather thick armor and can use that pulse cannon on its shoulder.” Says Valkyrie.
“Didn’t the Battle Kong have a rail cannon?” Fenrir asks, noting a particular detail of the Battle Kong that Jotun lacks.
“Rail cannons tend to cost a lot of credits, its likely easier to swap it out for a pulse cannon. But given the mech lacks the bunker drill the Battle Kong had, I wonder what its close-range capabilities are.” Says Valkyrie.
“My guess, sheer force given the strength of regular Goro units.” Says Fenrir.
Before they could continue their conversation, the Announcer announces that the first round is about to start. Lucian and Ava prepare for their first match. Along the way, they notice a strange combatant in a strange outfit. The outfit seemed like rugged jacket with a symbol of a serpent surrounding a planet on the back. Behind the combatant was their mech which resembled the skeleton of an animal known as allosaurus, albeit with some anatomical differences. Putting the thought of it aside and get ready to start their first fight of the Tournament. Lucian and Ava are hellbent to win and they’re not going to let anything get in their way.
