Anyway, back to Mana and Magic for beginners. Apart from you own Mana, there were five other types of Mana. The first four were the four natural elements, like the ones I had seen the clowns use, fire Mana, water Manna, earth Mana and wind Mana. And each elements Mana were found in different places.
Fire Mana could be found in and around fire, lave and heat sources, which included in the air all around us on a warm to hot day. Water Manna could be found in and around water, plants, snow, ice and in the atmosphere itself. Earth Mana could be found low to and in the ground, whilst also being found in metals, sand, mud and other earthly minerals. And finally, wind Mana was found all around us in the air.
As for the fifth form of Mana, that was called natural Mana. Natural Mana was smaller than elemental Mana, which was already small in itself, and clung to the elemental forms of Mana. The book described it as
“Like a colony of ants of an Apple.”
These five types of Mana were what mages used to gain power, as they drew the Mana of the element, they had an affinity to throw their Mana passages and into their bodies, whilst simultaneously drawing in natural Mana. In the beginning stages, young mages would achieve this process through meditation, however as they progressed, they’d learn to actively do this as if it were second nature to them.
As mages drew their aligned Mana particles in. Three things would happen. Firstly, and this happened to all mages, the nature Mana would stick and remain in their heart, gravitating around and circling the Mana heart. Kind of like the rings of rock that circled my old world.
As time went on, the natural Manna that circled the Mana heart would grow thicker and more compact, as they spun faster and faster around the Mana heart. Resulting in Mana rings. Reading this, I was eager to learn more about it. However, being a book for beginners, the book didn’t dive that deep into it. Though it was a simple process to understand from that small explanation.
Mana rings were rings of natural Mana around the Mana heart which most likely strengthened the Manna heart as it fuelled your body with not just the strength of your own Mana heart, but now with the combined strength of the ring of natural Mana. And subsequently, the more Mana rings. The stronger you were. That said, the fact that Claire Merigold had five Mana rings... meant that she was quite powerful. Though it did make me wonder, just how many Mana rings could a mage have... and just how strong would they be.
Anyway, as for the other two things that would happen, it all depended on whether you were destined to become an Enhancer or an Expeller. Because depending on which one you were, depended on which of the next two things would happen to you.
In both cases, your body would take in the elemental Mana of your own affinity, bring it to your core and purify it. Turning it into your own elemental Mana. However, this is where the two paths diverged basing on which of the two types of mages you were.
As an Enhancer, your body develops a second set of veins called Mana veins, and these veins carry the Elemental Mana around the mages body, strengthening them, and allowing them to manifest their magic in a close combat style with a more limited range. Such as wrapping your fist in fire and earth magic or creating whips of water magic an blades of wind magic.
However, as an Expeller, your body develops a second set of pores called Mana Pores, which allow the Mana to leak out and propel at high speeds from the mages body. Allowing them to attack at great distances with unique spells that an Enhancer couldn’t dream of doing at the earlier levels of being a mage.
The remainder of the Mana and Magic for beginner's book listed off a few basic and standard beginner spells from each elemental class, that both Enhancers and Expellers could each begin to learn. However, since I currently couldn't use magic, due to not having a fully developed Mana heart yet, i decided to put the book away for now and pick it up once again when my Mana heart was fully developed.
However, at the end of the book, there was also an advertisement for another book, a sequel book that caught my attention. “Irregular Magic, Advanced Magic and Mana Rings for mages. By Dr. Minerva Williams and Dr. Ronald Polter” The book hadn’t mentioned irregular magic before, but it had previously mentioned the advanced forms of Magic in a passing comment; however, it did not go into detail which I had found both odd and annoying. However, it was now evident why it hadn’t. It was a clear incentive to buy the next book in the series. Smart.
Speaking of Advanced Magic. I do believe that I had caught a glimpse of it at the Sky bridge hall incident. That golden lightning that Claire Merigold had used. The Mana and magic for beginner’s hadn’t mentioned anything about lightning magic, and I had seen Claire use fir magic. So, using my deductive skills, I figured that lightning magic had to be an advanced form of fire magic. Also, from what I had read, I believed Claire Merigold to be an Enhancer purely based on how she used her Lightning Magic. She did not fire it off like a projectile, it flowed and danced around her body.
This world was turning out to be far more unique and interesting than I had initially thought
