TO BE KING

Chapter 7.2 - A Britannic History

Chapter 7.2 - A Britannic History

Jul 03, 2025

Roughly seven-thousand years A.L.T.G and three thousand years ago. After a millennium of warring and non-stop death, one man, who went by the name Donald Peterson and was the reigning king of Francair kingdom put an end to the warring, and the four kingdoms founded a peace treaty and an agreement of peace between nations.

Paying for their and their ancestor's crimes, the Britannic kingdom was taxed heavily, being forced to pay reparations through monetary exchange and the assassination of the monarchy line. And so, without a king or reigning bloodline, the Britannic Empire had to find a new monarch and a way of choosing them.

And so, a system was created. The monarch games, a tournament style battle game held on New Year's Day, January 1st, every year, where those who want to rule, battle it out, one on one, until there is one man or woman left standing. And they are crowned king or queen. And then, once per year, every year, a new tournament is held, and the winner gets the chance to battle the current monarch. If the new challenger wins, they become the next monarch of the Britannic Empire. If not, then the current monarch remains on the throne. In the first game, a woman by the name of Hana Lillith took the throne at the age of thirty, and she held it for twelve years, Population, roughly six hundred and twenty eight thousand.

Roughly eight-thousand years A.L.T.G and two thousand years ago. a thousand years of the new tradition, had gone by and it had been successful. A thousand years of no conflict had gone by, and everything was going smoothly for the Britannic Empire. At least, on the surface.

Though life for non-mages had improved over the last few thousands of years, the new system of choosing a monarch was seen by the non-mages as unfair and discriminatory towards them, as they never stood a chance of ascending the throne. And so, they would always be under the boot of the mages.

And so, one man, by the name of Henry Boil decided to do something and stand up against the system. Over the years, in the underground world of the Britannic Empire, non-mages had been working in secret on inventions that would allow them to turn the tides against the mages. Metal contraptions of black powder that could fire metal beads at such high speeds, that they could catch a mage off guard and even penetrate low levels of magical defences. These contraptions were called G.U.N’s and were named after Ginny Ubel Nawton.

This brought around “the second civil war” and it was a far more brutal and violent war than the last civil war. However, just as the non-mages had made their advancements and improved their strengths. So had the mages, reaching new levels of power. Enough power that the strongest of which could easily level a small kingdom.

The war was a lot shorter this time around, lasting only a few months, and resorted in the deaths of thousands upon thousands of non-mages and only a few hundred mages.

The leader of the civil war, Henry Boil, and the rest of his cohorts were all publicly executed as a demonstration of what would happen if they were to persist with the rebellion. However, there mission had also ended successfully, and a new rule had been put in place. The Monarch had to pick a “hand of the king”, a non-mage who was to act as second in command to the king. Population, one million four hundred and seventy thousand.

Roughly nine-thousand years A.L.T.G and one thousand years ago. a thousand years of peace had gone by without incident in the Britannic Empire and technological advancements had begun to take over the world. The world was beginning to change, with the inventions and advancements of the train, car, plane, lightbulb and many other advancements that improved humans' everyday life.

The founding of a new school named “Monarch Academy”, where talented young mages attended and were trained with the sole purpose of one or more of them ascending the throne at least once in their life. However, even if graduates never ascended the throne, many of them found good positions in the Royal Guard, or in the Royal Britannic army. Population, four million and fifty seven thousand.

Roughly ten-thousand years A.L.T.G and leading up to current day. Peace and the advancement of both technological and magical advancements have prevailed, and life is filled with peace. Researchers and archaeologists have been scouring the world for any signs that the Griffins did in fact exist. And ancient ruins, which are infested and crawling with strange and new magical creatures have begun to be discovered and ancient artefacts with unknown power have begun to be discovered. Whether these lead to the confirmed existence of the Griffins is unknown, but what it hopefully should do, is uncover more and more secrets of the past.

The current monarch of the Britannic Empire is Von Astraea. Born the year 9,980 May 10th. He is a seventh ring, tri-elemental mage of fire, earth and wind, the first to be seen in millenniums, and has advanced elements of gravity and sound magic. He began attending the Monarch Academy at the age of thirteen and graduated from the academy early at the age of sixteen. He took the throne in 9,998 and has remained on it for the past twelve years.

He is recorded in history, as the strongest king that the Britannic Empire has ever seen and will probably ever have. Population, seven million two hundred and fifteen thousand.

Reading “A Britannic Empires History. From old world to new. By Dr, Ralph Dior.” taught me a few important things about this new world. One, it appears that just like in my old world, those who were gifted with magic, were seen to be above those without it. They may not explicitly vocalise it, but it's evident throughout the world's history.

Two, it appears that it’s a common theme in different worlds to have legends and stories about the creation of the world and who did it. And those stories continue on and on through the generations. After all, even to this day, though it is stated that not many believe in the old legend of the Griffins, they still use the calendar date A.L.T.G and have a celebration on the 25th of December called “Day of the Griffin” a religious celebration that celebrates the supposed arrival of the Griffins. It started off as a celebration that only those who believed too part in, but now it had become a nationwide celebration of merriness and gift giving.

Three, it was expected, but I was still unsure on whether there were other nations out there in the world. But it appeared that there were, there were four dominating ones now labelled as Empires. and plentiful smaller nations dubbed as either villages or kingdoms. However, whether the nations were truly at peace with one another like the book said, was unknown.

Four, this nation possessed a similar system of life to my previous world, in the form of deciding who becomes ruler over the Britannic Empire. It was different in many ways yes, in my old world once you took the throne you sat on it until you died. Yet they were both similar in the manner that it wasn’t passed down inherently like the Elves and Dwarves did in my old life. This meant that anyone strong enough could become king if they so wished it. Which could prove both good, and problematic.

And the fifth and final important piece of information, was about the current king. Most specifically, his power. I had read in “Mana and Magic for beginners” that it was extremely rare for a mage to be born with two elemental affinities, let alone three. And to top it off, he also had two advanced forms of magic, gravity and sound. I didn’t currently know what element the two fit under, but using the elements that I knew he possessed, logic and process of elimination by assuming each element only had one advanced form... I figured that gravity was the advanced form of earth and sound the advanced form of wind.

It was funny, the more I learned about this world, the more fascinating I found it. There was so much to do and learn about it, that recently, I had begun to seriously enjoy life. And slowly but surely, I could feel the coldness of my heart thawing away. And opening up to this new world filled with opportunity.

Synopsis

In a new world, filled with magic and technology, Alex, a former king from a distant medieval world, similar to, yet in many ways completely different to his old world, finds himself trapped in the body of a mere infant. With no idea how he died or why someone like him was given this new chance at life?

However, with this new chance at life he has but one goal. Yes, one very simple, easily obtainable goal. To live a long, peaceful, happy life, devoid of the pain, suffering… and revenge of his former world.

Yes, he was going to live that simple and easy life that every person lived for. In this life, he would not seek the ultimate power, nor respect. He would not be weighed down by regret nor anger. He’d finally be free to live the life he oh so desired in his previous life.

Well… that’s what he had thought…

Sure, life had been as such. Happy and peaceful with his new family and friends… for a time. However, fate had a funny way of getting what it wanted.

And fate was something that no living mortal could hope to escape.

And so, Alex, now going by the name of Edward Smith, will soon find himself back in a similar situation to his previous world.

But would things turn out the same way for the former king? Would fate succeed in bringing Edward down a similar path? Would he truly have to go through all that pain, anger and anguish again?

Or would things turn out differently?

Only time would tell… only this story could tell…

This is the story of a souls bound in the shackles of fate. A former king desperate to live the life he believes he deserves.

This is the story of Alexander, the former king of the human continent Aroa on the planet Ahana… this is the story of Edward Smith. The soul, shackled by fate…
