Jon Smith
Looking at Edward, I knew that tonight would be the night that he awakened. And so, I put my plan into action.
It had taken a while to persuade Mary not to come along with us. She had put up quite fuss about not being there with the two of us, however, after explaining the risk of the operation to her and how it could put the twins lives in danger, she reluctantly agreed.
“Fine. But you better be careful and stay safe you here me? If anything were to happen to you or Edward i’d… just be safe. Please”
In response, I had held her shaking hands and looked into her worried eyes and smiled the way I always did when she expressed such worry. And as I did so, I could immediately feel her relax, as he pulled me into a surprisingly tight hug. Well, that was the difference between a second ring water mage and a first ring healer.
“Don’t worry, we will be. I promise, no matter what, I’ll never let anything bad befall Edward, or you and the twins.”
And so, after finally departing, I hopped in the car, Edward strapped into his baby seat at the back, and quickly, but still abiding the roads speed limits, drove to Sky hope hospital where, as a doctor, I had complete access to the majority of the building.
Deciding that parking away from the building would make my look unnecessarily guilty, I parked in the staff car park and simply walked through the front doors, Edward in my arms.
“Evening Janet, got you on the evening shift today I see.”
I said with a smile in my face as I approached the curved, white reception counter, which blocked the way to the rest of the hospital as both patients and doctors needed to sign in before entrance.
Janet, a short, middle-aged woman, with short, brown hair, dark eyes and large, round, thick glasses, looked up with a squint, searching for the source of the voice. Then, noticing me, she gave a warm smile, as she straightened out her blue shirt, the noise of rattling computer keys temporarily ceasing as her full attention turned to me.
“Ah, good evening, Dr Smith. What brings you here this evening. Oh, and don’t tell me, could this young man possibly be your son, little Edward you talk so much about.”
She said in a bubbly and grandmotherly tone, as she eyes up my sun like a human who had just discovered magic for the first time. Janet had a soft spot for children; it was lucky that she was the one on reception today.
“Yeah, this is him, alive in the flesh.”
“God he’s just the cutest isn’t he. With that short wheat blonde hair and ocean blue intelligent eyes. I could just eat him up.”
She said as he reached out a hand and played with Edwards cheeks. Looking at my son, I could see that he was fighting the urge to sway away the chubby woman’s hand, however, seemingly understanding that this needed to be done, he merely took the pinching with a grimace.
“But gosh, look at the time. I’m sure it’s almost time for your bedtime mister... Here Dr. Smith, hurry along so you can get home quickly and put him to bed.”
She said with another warm smile, as she buzzed me through. Taking this chance and wasting no time, I thanked her quickly, before hurrying off towards the awakening chamber, located three stories below the hospital.
I reconned that we only had about twenty minutes max before Janet became suspicious about where we were, and so, without missing a heartbeat. I entered the awakening chamber and began to prepare everything we needed to safely commence and measure Edwards awakening.
Edward Smith
I was sat inside of a a giant, egg like pod, complete made of glass, with a multitude of tentacle like wires and cables clipped to my body. I had no idea what each one was supposed to do or measure, and the glass egg like done didn’t seem that secure for something that was described as being explosive. However, this was the standard equipment and procedure to safely contain and measure an awakening that had been on hundreds if not millions of children before me and would be used on millions after me.
“Alright Edward, soon, your gonna experience a strange sensation and then, there will be a little boom. However, don’t be afraid. You’ll be perfectly fine and safe within the dome of reinforced class and the sensation will only last for a while. Just sit still for a few minutes, okay?”
Jon’s boosted voice said, as it echoed all around the room from a few speakers inbuilt into the ceiling.
It was finally time. The sensation had been rapidly building within me for a while now, however, I had been actively holding it back out of fear of awakening out in public and causing mass damage and harm. Especially to Jon. However, now I could finally release the bubbling, ecstatic feeling that was swelling up like a balloon within my heart. And I wasn’t going to waste a second longer on suppressing the coming pop.
I closed my eyes and began to meditate. Focusing on the moving particles and quivering ball of Mana in my heart. I drove more and more and more particles into it. Filling it more and more, and then, it happened.
I felt an incredible release of energy coming from my Mana heart, which exploded out from me externally with a loud, vibrating boom, the sound of shattering and then… fire, water, wind and earth… all four elements began to engulf my form, before repeatedly switching from one to the other.
