Two Sides of a Coin

An Approach To Avoid [Part 1]

An Approach To Avoid [Part 1]

Jul 04, 2025

HazelWing kept their body close to the ground, as they sneaked towards a dark furry ball. After a while, they then leaped into the air, coming down on top of it.

SwirlPaw quickly got up and zoomed away, and he then turned around and leaped onto HazelWing from behind.

He used his paws to cover HazelWing’s face from seeing. As HazelWing backed up a bit, after moving around, they then froze and thought for a moment. Then HazelWing used their tail and swiped SwirlPaw off of them.

SwirlPaw quickly stood back up and then started to run in a zig-zag formation. Before leaping up in the air, HazelWing quickly moves to the side, as they turn around and reach their paw towards SwirlPaw’s tail.

SwirlPaw then quickly turned over and bit as they dropped him. SwirlPaw recovered and fixed his stance.

“Hey HazelWing! We are bac-”. TigerPaw comes in but quickly gets pulled to the side by MoonFall.

“Can’t you see that they're still training?”. MoonFall said strictly to TigerPaw.

HazelWing looked over and sighed. “It’s alright, we were about to be done anyway. “.

TigerPaw heard what Hazelwing said and ran to SwirlPaw, tackling him. “Hey! What was that for?”.  SwirlPaw yelped.

“Hehe!”. TigerPaw put her paw on top of him. “You're it!”. She then runs off, leaving SwirlPaw to be left in the dust.

“Hey! That was a cheat move!”. SwirlPaw chases after TigerPaw while they play with each other.

“You both sure are energetic.”. MoonFall giggled.

After a bit, they settled down, and the two apprentices looked up at their mentor.

The two mentors looked at each other before nodding in agreement. As SwirlPaw and TigerPaw both looked confused.

“We decided that we think you both are finally ready to become full-fledged warriors.”.

SwirlPaw looked confused, happy, and surprised all at the same time. “Really!? We can fully become warriors?! I thought you said I still needed to perfect some things, HazelWing?”

HazelWing smiled and laughed. “Well, of course. You still have a lot to work on until you make some skills perfect, but you have a better understanding of all the basic skills. Once you gain some experience, I'm sure you'll be the best warrior that any cat has ever seen.”

SwirlPaw's eyes sparkled, and he giggled. TigerPaw saw how SwirlPaw acted and looked to her mentor.

MoonFall nodded and laughed. “Yes, you too. You have some great skills that I don't think anyone has. If you perfect those skills, you could even be a rival to SwirlPaw.”

TigerPaw giggled happily and tackled SwirlPaw. “You hear that!? I will even rival you! I will be even better than you at being a warrior.”

SwirlPaw scoffed and swatted at TigerPaw to get her off of him. “Where did you even hear that? You may rival me, but you are not going to be a better warrior than me!”

SwirlPaw pushes TigerPaw off of him and pushes her down so she can't move.

“Hey! You're cheating! And I know I will be better than you!” TigerPaw struggles for a little bit before pushing SwirlPaw off of her.

SwirlPaw smirks and laughs, “How are you going to be better than me if you couldn't even push me off of you within a few seconds? I could have killed you by that time!”

TigerPaw pouted and shouted, “I still caught you first!”

“I was off guard! That wasn't a fair fight!”

“Well, there are no fair fights whe-”

“Enough! Come on now! You won't have time to be warriors if you fight the rest of the day!” HazelWing looked a bit stern and told them.

SwirlPaw and TigerPaw immediately got in line and stopped fighting.

MoonFall saw how they acted and laughed.

HazelWing quirked their eyebrows at MoonFall and smirked at them. “I don't know why you are laughing, you acted just like them when you were an apprentice.”

“Hey! I was better! I think..? I mean! I know I was!” MoonFall pouted and shouted at HazelWing.

HazelWing just smiled and put their paw on top of MoonFall’s head. “You were a good kit. I was just joking.”

MoonFall smiles and nods. MoonFall moved HazelWing’s paw off their face and rubbed their fur against each other. “Of course, I know”

HazelWing then moves away from MoonFall and stands up, “Well, the first step to becoming a Warrior is to get a task from the Leader. Follow me, it's time to be a Warrior.”

SwirlPaw and TigerPaw trotted behind HazelWing, following them happily while MoonFall followed behind them, becoming the rear of the group.

*At the leader's den.*

DawnStar was with GlitchTail when HazelWing approached with the apprentices and MoonFall. It appeared that DawnStar and GlitchTail were talking about a serious matter because of how DawnStar's face was scrounged up. When he saw the apprentices behind HazelWing, he slowly smiled and waved at them.

“Hello, young ones, how was your training going?”

TigerPaw smiled, “Good! And guess what?! Our mentors said we are ready to become Warriors!”

DawnStar looked shocked and unsure. He looked at HazelWing and MoonFall to see if she was telling the truth.

HazelWing and MoonFall nodded. DawnStar sighed, “Well, I trust that your mentors will make the right decision.”

DawnStar looked at them and announced loudly, “To become a Warrior, you must complete this task I give you. If not, you will have to do a different one until you either become a Warrior or still be a failure as an apprentice.”

DawnStar looks at TigerPaw specifically, “Your task is to bring back 5 squirrels in perfect condition. SwirlPaw, ” He now looks at SwirlPaw. “Your task is to bring back 5 rats in perfect condition. If you two can complete those tasks, you may become a Warrior.”

SwirlPaw immediately jumped up and ran to the outside of the leader's den, “Easy! I'll be back by the time the sun sets!”

TigerPaw, trying not to be left behind, hurriedly ran after SwirlPaw. “I'll be done before you, SwirlPaw!”

In the distance, you could hear SwirlPaw say, “We’ll see about that!”

HazelWing was smiling, watching the little apprentices run off to become Warriors.

“HazelWing, MoonFall”

HazelWing was taken out of their thoughts when they heard DawnStar call out their name. They faced him and waited for what he wanted to tell them.

“To help prepare for the war that might be coming, WillowClan’s leader, warriors, and their Deputy will be coming to our clan to discuss war tactics. Make sure they arrive safely and greet them properly when they arrive.”

HazelWing and MoonFall nodded simultaneously.
