Within the last few decades, there have been groundbreaking developments in transportation, with the advent of mountain-crossing railways. The continent has long been divided by the mountains, as it is far too dangerous to cross on foot due to pockets of magic peppered across them, both inside the rock and between the mountains themselves. Instead, tracks were built up and over the peaks, allowing people and goods to be moved without boats.
