Every comic has that one page that takes way longer than the rest and that was definitely this one. Most of the pages in this comic took somewhere between 3 and 7 hours. This one took over 11. Designing an castle definitely slows down the drawing process! I really wanted to get the look right, though. Originally, I think I'd just planned to make the castle surrounded by lily pads, but then in a little moment of serendipity, the first two water lilies I'd ever seen in my pond bloomed the morning I started this page, and I realized that, of course, the castle had to be themed after the lily flower! This type of lily is an American white water lily (Nymphaea odorata) by the way. If you happen to live in Eastern USA, it's a great choice of native plant.
