No slander to science. Science is awesome! That said, I think that sometimes, especially as we get older, we can get so caught up in the pursuit of accuracy, that we lose sight of our empathy. Anthropomorphizing has become something of a taboo in the scientific world, and I understand the concern of falsely ascribing human traits to animals, but imagining ourselves in others shoes (or flippers as the case may be) is how we connect and care about those around us. Personally, I'd rather take the risk of accidentally assuming an unintelligent creature had complex thoughts and feelings than accidentally assuming an intelligent creature did not. So, next time an animal captures your imagination, I encourage you to explore that childlike wonder, rather than dismissing it as foolish. After all, perhaps sometimes we are so sure we know better, that we miss what's right under our noses!
This concludes my submission. It was really fun to make! Thank you for reading, and indulging my little side tangents. If you have any thoughts, I'd love to hear them!
