Chapter 10: Rise of Ragnarok

Chapter 10: Rise of Ragnarok

Jul 19, 2025

Elsewhere in the Galaxy, a Republic vessel gets a strange signal coming from an abandoned facility. At first, the crew of the vessel thinks the signal might be the Rebels that the President of Earth Richard Deceptious is looking for. The vessel heads towards the planet Lucius IV, a planet that’s served as an attempt at terraforming, in search of the signal. As the vessel lands on the planet, Commander Alexander Maximus orders the troops to get into position. Avian sniper Talus enters the facility from the roof. Maximus alongside Canid rookie Pit breach from the sides. Upon entering the facility, Pit can’t but wonder why such a facility was abandoned.

“Commander, permission to speak.” Says Pit.

“Speak rookie.” Ordered Maximus.

“Any reason why this place was left abandoned? It seems pointless to let all this research go to waste.” Asks Pit while avoiding the shattered glass on the floor.

“That’s classified kid. All you need to know is that an incident occurred and our current task is to see if the Rebels are here. If possible, we’ll salvage whatever research we find.” Says Maximus.

Before Pit could ask any more questions, the wrist mounted radar picks up the signal and its close, very close. Suddenly, Maximus points his energy rifle at a Bruton. But this was no ordinary Bruton. This Bruton was General Atrios, one of the Federations most noted Generals. Soon enough, an Arachnoid sniper is spotted by Talus. Atrios is also followed by Felis solider who waits for the Generals orders.

“Well, well. Who would’ve guessed that the Republic would take interest in an abandoned plan like this?” Says Atrios, chuckling to himself.

“Could say the same about the Federation. If I were you, I would leave before I end up with a blaster shot through my skull.” Says Maximus, threatening the General

“Easy for you to say human. Jagrus, search the area for anything valuable.” Ordered Atrios.

“Right away General.” Says Jagrus.

“Rookie, keep a close eye on that Felis.” Ordered Maximus.

Before Pit could follow through with the order, the radars begin to pick something up. Not just was it close but it was also mobile. Talus tries to warn Maximus and Pit but before he could do so, a loud scream could be heard. The soldiers all get close to each other while the snipers search for the source of the movement. Atrios tries to call for Jagrus only to be met with radio silence. Right away, Maximus and Atrios realize that this whole scenario was a trap and they fell for it. Pit could only barely make out the shape of the movement. Pit steadied his aim and fire a shot at the shape.

“I-I actually got it, sir.” Says Pit, shocked by what he did.

Before they could prepare for another shot, the shape gets back up and walks towards the soldiers. As it gets closer and closer to them, its shape becomes clearer under the moonlight. It was a mech resembling a bipedal prehistoric creature known a deinonychus. But something was off about this mech. It had a skeletal appearance and some of the traits the Earth animal had were exaggerated on this machine. The mech slowly approaches the soldiers, all the while carrying Jagrus’ body in its mouth. Before Talus could line up a shot, the deinonychus throws Jagrus at Talus with the sniper barely dodging the attack. Suddenly, the raptor charged towards them and pounced on Pit. Pit jams his rifle into the mechs mouth in the hope of blocking the bites. Before it could sink its claws into the Canid, Atrios grabs the deinonychus and slams it into the ground. That’s when the arachnoid sniper shoots the raptor square in its head. With the raptor taken care of, Maximus helps Pit up and goes to inspect the mech.

“One your mechs I take it?” Asks Maximus.

“Our mech might resemble extinct Earth animals, I don’t recall a single one looking like this.” Responds Atrios.

“Well, whoever made it, the Saurens are going to have a word with them.” Says Maximus before kicking the fallen mech.

Just then, the radar on Pit’s wrist begins to blip with multiple signals. They watch as the room become filled with glowing red eye. Knowing they are outnumbered, Maximus and Atrios agree that they are left with one option.

“Run.” Maximus ordered before all the troops booked it out of the building.

In the commotion, the Arachnoid sniper gets jumped by two deinonychus and is heard screaming as its ripped apart. As they exit the building, Talus barricades the door with his sniper rifle. With the raptors trying to break through, Talus decides to hold the pack off in order for the others to escape. At first, Maximus is against the idea but soon realizes that the troops are left with little options. Maximus gives Talus his rifle and heads for the ship with Pit and Atrios. As the ship takes off, Maximus could only watch as Talus tries to fend off the pack of raptors. Soon enough, the numbers become too much and Talus is swarmed by the deinonychus mechs.

“May the stars guide you, Talus. You fought bravely for the people of the Republic.” Says Maximus, mourning to loss of Talus.

Afterwards the ordeal, a Hooded figure watches as the ship leaves the planet. The deinonychus mechs surround the Hooded figure but do not attack. It would appear that the raptors recognize who this man is. This becomes more apparent as the raptors all bear the same serpent marking as the Hooded figure. That is when the Hooded figure receives a call.

“I take it the mission went smoothly Ragnar?” Says the voice on the other side of the line.

“Yes, my Liege. Aside from one unit being destroyed, both the Republic and the Federation now have a hint of our might.” Says Ragnar as he places his hand on one of the Deinonychus.

“Good. Soon the Galaxy will know mankind as the true rulers of the stars. We have a mech prepared for you Ragnar. Get to it and continue with our plan. And remember, I don’t tolerate failure.” Says the Voice before hanging up.

“It will be done.” Says Ragnar.

Ragnar heads for his ship and leaves to retrieve his mech. As he does this, he looks through the schematics of the mech he will be driving. Upon seeing it, Ragnar is more than pleased by the result. With this mech, Ragnarök will be one step closer to achieving is ultimate goal.
