When the Real Boss Arrives in the Apocalypse

Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Jul 21, 2025

EVE has announced to it's players that BloodReign_666 and KillSwitch were the ones that were chosen to get married in the [ Till Death do us part ] event.

The masses went wild when they heard the news, some rejoiced, while others were jealous of KillSwitch for marrying their idol/crush.

Though some people disapproved of two men getting married, even when inside the game, and didn't hesitate to voice their thoughts in the comments.

In the process, Grey received hate from those people and even death threats, but the strange thing was that he didn't even care.

What worried him more was Lucien, he never logged on since that night.

Although it's only been a day, he didn't log in the same time as he usually does, and he didn't respond to his text messages as well.

His concern only grew worse with every passing hour, he knew something happened, it was too strange for him not to respond even after he used every trick in the book to get him to reply.

Grey could only wait it out, he wouldn't pick up his phone either.

. .. . .. . .. .. . . .. . .. . ..

Days turned into months, Grey had already hired multiple detectives to find a person by the name "Lucien Hayes" in that timespan. Because that name wasn't all that common, they quickly pinned it down to a few suspects.

Detective: "From our combined research, we've found atleast 40 people in the country by the name "Lucien Hayes."'

Grey sighed, that's too much people. He had already spent a fortune in hiring those detectives and would probably blow his entire savings into investigating all forty.

He thought about the problem for a minute then asked the detective.

"Now remove all the people there that don't wear black or gothic-looking clothes."

The detective raised an eyebrow at his request, but still did as he was told. He texted the other detectives to find pictures of those people online and tell him whether they wore enough black.

An hour passed and the all the detectives told the main detective whether the Lucien Hayes they were investigating dressed goth or not.

The main detective closed the investigation to just one person, one Lucien Hayes that wore alot of black.

Grey grinned in satisfaction as he finally found the Lucien he was looking for.

Detective: "But... There's just one problem. That Lucien Hayes is actually admitted in the hospital."

Grey's grin slowly faded, his expression turned dark and he asked the detective,

"Which hospital?"

The detective saw Grey's terrifying expression and shivered, that look was only used once when his company almost went bankrupt.

"I-its in Westwood bank hospital."

After hearing the address, Grey dashed for the door before the detective could finish his sentence.

He got on a taxi and told the driver the location.

The hospital stood 8 hours away, but Grey didn’t care. All that mattered to him was Lucien's safety.

On the way, the cab driver had to refill the car a few a times because of the long distance, and made the travel time even longer.

Midnight had already struck when Grey reached the hospital; he gave the taxi driver a tip and entered.

His steps matched the weight of his anxious heart; the uncertainty about Lucien and the prospect of seeing his true self caused his heart to race.

The hospital’s interior was cramped and dilapidated; its location in a sparsely populated city section, and government funding, contributed to this.

The desk lady had her head down, it looked like she was asleep. Grey tapped on the table to get her attention.

"Ah--! Yes!"

She looked up in surprise, what met her gaze was an incredibly good-looking man.

Before her, stood a tall and well proportioned body.

Taking a closer look, you could make out the shape of his six-pack abs and his well defined collarbone within his stylish black turtleneck.

His hair, cleanly parted in the middle, showed his smooth and beautiful round forehead. His slightly arched brows were full and didn't look patchy.

When she met his eyes, his sharp gaze made her look away for a second. Before slowly turning back to look for more.

Grey suddenly spoke, interrupting her daydreaming.

"Lucien Hayes. I'm his guardian."

If this were a top notch hospital in the big city, the receptionists wouldn't be asleep and they would have to ask for proof of your claim.

But this lady was perhaps too enthralled to care, and since the work system here was rather lax, she just allowed him entry unquestioningly.

Grey went to the room number that the lady told him. It wasn't too far and before he knew it he was already there.

He stopped at the door's entrance, and didn't immediately open the door, but took a breath then entered.

There were four beds in the room separated into quadrants using thick, dark turquoise curtains. Grey didn’t spot him on the first two, so he moved toward the remaining beds.

The pale fluorescent lights above cast an overbearing hue over everything, but it couldn’t hide the fragile beauty lying beneath the sheets.

Lucien looked nothing like his in-game avatar. BloodReign_666's appearance was that of a strong man that survived the apocalypse: rough, fit, and handy. But the same person who appeared right in front of him looked more like a youth who has never faced hardship.

His skin was unnaturally pale, as if drained of all color, but smooth and unblemished, like porcelain left in the shade for too long.

His jet-black hair spilled across the white pillow in soft, tangled strands that were slightly curled at the ends.

Grey's gaze dropped to his face. His eyebrows, long and straight, resembled soft brushstrokes drawn with precision.

Even in sleep, Lucien’s features appeared like that of an idol. It was as if he was a youthful-looking vampire that never aged.

Lucien was thinner than he should’ve been, his arms rested limply at his sides, and Grey could see the outline of his collarbone beneath the hospital gown.

The IV line in his wrist and the soft beeping of the monitor made his heart ache.

Grey stepped closer, fingers trembling as he reached out but stopped just before touching him.

"Lucien..."

Without a response back, he figured that he was probably asleep. So he sat down on the nearby stool and took off his brown coat.

He stared at Lucien's face.

A small part of him wished that they had met when they made it official, so he could take him out on dates and show him around his hometown.

Who would've thought that when they finally met, it had to be when one of them had gotten hurt?

He sighed, then made a phone call to his butler back at home. Telling him that tonight he wouldn't go back home, and that he should close up for the night.

Grey leaned back on the wall. He admired the stars from the open window at the end of the room, then closed his tired eyes.

The top one in a zombie shooting game was none other than BloodReign_666.

Playing since the start of the game, he never once did things as a team, it was always just him, alone.

Things changed when he made a friend by the name [ KillSwitch ], and they went into several zombie king raid boss instances together.

He thought he'd be ready for anything, but when the world succumbed to a zombie outbreak, his confidence shattered.

In reality he was just a scaredy cat.

Immediately, to avoid more troubles, he applied to join a heavily fortified base, hoping to be protected by a strong person.

The base's powerful leader, surprisingly turned out to be his only in-game friend.
