The air is cold, biting at her exposed skin. The thin dress barely covers her body, clinging to her flesh from rain, sweat, and blood. Her long white hair flies behind her like a silver flame defying the darkness. Her breath comes in ragged gasps, her chest rising and falling wildly.
In her arms, a small child wrapped in a faded pink cloth. Sleeping peacefully, unaware of this hell.
“I’ll save you…” she murmured between breaths.
“I’ll save you… no matter what it costs.”
Her eyes darted left and right, searching for an escape. With every step she took, the ground screamed beneath her feet, tree leaves flew and slapped against her body, clinging to her dress, as if nature itself was trying to stop her.
Behind her, the forest shook with a terrifying sound.
“Run!”
His crazed voice pierced the silence, followed by the sound of iron scraping across the dirt. He was carrying an axe, walking with the calm confidence of a hunter who knew his prey was hopelessly lost.
“How long will you keep running? You don’t know the way. You’ll come back to me… like you always do.”
He laughed.
His laughter was like a hammer shattering hope.
But her eyes did not waver.
She knew… this time was different.
