The sky was clear that afternoon, and the sun cast a golden light through the school windows. In the courtyard, Kauane and Nikki shared rain cakes on a makeshift tablecloth.
Nikki: "I'm still getting used to this magical girl thing..." She stared at the magical açaí bowl that was filling itself. "But it's much more fun than I imagined."
Kauane: "I like the feeling of doing something important." She smiled, a little shyly. "Even though I'm still trying to figure it all out."
Before the conversation could continue, two girls approached.
One of them wore a prosthetic left arm, had curly hair, and a serene look in her eyes. The other was shorter, with red hair and bright green eyes, and she was gesturing happily.
Rafaela: Hi, my name is Rafaela. And this is Fátima.
Fátima waved excitedly and began communicating in Libras. Kauane blinked in confusion, trying to understand, but Nikki stepped forward with a smile.
Nikki: She said she was happy to meet us. I learned a little Libras at school last year… If you want, I can teach you, Kau.
Kauane: Really? Yes, I do! I've always wanted to learn.
As the conversation flowed, Nikki curiously brought up another topic.
Nikki: And what were your magical wishes?
Rafaela: I asked for my family to escape poverty. Today we can live with dignity, without fear of tomorrow.
Nikki: She asked for a home of her own, so she could care for her siblings without having to rely on shelter. Kauane felt a tightness in her chest. She hadn't expected such... profound answers.
Nikki: But didn't you want to ask for something for yourselves? Like... Rafa, you use a prosthesis. And Fátima, didn't you want to ask to speak?
Rafaela: I thought about it. But my support network has always been there for me. A new arm isn't worth it if my mother still cries from hunger.
Nikki: Wow...
Fátima gestured emotionally.
Nikki: She said she doesn't feel incomplete. Sign language is part of her. Having a safe home was the most important thing.
The silence was respectful. Kauane and Nikki exchanged a touched look.

Rafaela: The curses have been increasing. There's something unbalancing the two worlds—the human and the spiritual. She sat down on the grass and began to explain:
Aura or Spiritual Energy:
The magical essence that exists within all living beings and interacts with the spiritual world. Witches, sorcerers, and spirits can perceive it. The aura reflects a person's emotional balance—or disorder.
Positive Energy:
Represents feelings such as empathy, love, and hope. Strengthens healing and protection rituals. But in excess, it can lead to denial of pain and make a person emotionally fragile.
Negative Energy:
Born from fear, sadness, and anger. It fuels offensive spells and increases resistance. If not balanced, it corrupts the spirit. It's not evil in itself—but dangerous in excess.
Nikki: So... the secret is balance?
Rafaela: It always has been.

As she listened, Kauane lost herself in her friend's eyes. Nikki spoke with passion, translating Fátima's every gesture with care. It was beautiful.
Her heart raced.
Kauane (thinking): I wanted to be like her... No. I wanted... to be hers?
She looked away, blushing violently.
Kauane: Oh no...
To disguise the turmoil, she decided to test a new power. She focused on the Pink Dolphin, enchanted by waters and feelings.
Bad idea.
Suddenly, she was... staring at Nikki in an exaggeratedly poetic way. Sweaty hands. She wanted to write sonnets about her eyelashes. Compliments tumbling from her mouth. Kauane: Your hair shines like the summer sky in... oh my God, what?!
She tried to hide it, plucking a flower from the school flowerbed and awkwardly offering it.
Nikki: Is everything okay?
Kauane: Just... testing out the new enchanted one. He's... intense.
Rafaela, watching from afar, crossed her arms and held back a laugh.
Rafaela: The pink dolphin does that. If you don't control it, it dominates you with its feelings. And then... chaos ensues.
Kauane: Great. I'm being seduced by myself.
Fátima gestured with her hand. Nikki laughed out loud as she translated.
Nikki: She said you look like a fish out of water. But deep down, you're cute.
Kauane laughed nervously. Deep down, she knew she was feeling something. Something new, confusing... but real.
Maybe—just maybe—she really was starting to like her best friend.
