chapter 8: failed attempt

chapter 8: failed attempt

Jul 27, 2025

Time had stopped, everyone were clueless of what was happening in the seconds that were slowed down.

Right after that outcast spoke in a different language that no one but Taio could understand, that outcast lifted Taio off the ground without even touching him.

“What...What the hell is that thing doing to Taio?!” asked Toma with a nervous tone.

“It looks like that thing didn't even notice us so we can rescue Taio now.” Said Rokoro.

“Are you sure about that?!” Arima glanced at Rokoro and asked him this question.

“What do you mean? It's obvious this outcast's mana is focused on Taio's presence.” answered Rokoro.

“No, you got it all wrong.”

After Arima implied this, everyone waited for him to countinue with their eyes full of curiousity.

“It's not like that outcast didn't notice us, It's just that he didn't care enough to take action on us.”

“What do you mean Arata? So you mean he ignored us on purpose?” asked Asuka.

“Yes.”

“But why?!”

“Because he doesn't see us as a threat.”

After what Arima said, a heavy silence filled the air until their attention was suddenly drawn elsewhere.

It was Taio's hair color and the strange turqouise colored light surrounding his floating body.

Taio's hair color was slowly changing to white as if his hair strands were losing their pigment.

“He's doing something to Taio, even if that thing's stronger than us we can't just let Taio die like this.” Said Rokoro.

They were around ten meters away from them and couldn't hear what that outcast was whispering to Taio's unconscious body.

“We can save him..if you guys do as i say.” Said Arima.

“So you mean there's a way?” asked Toma.

“Yes but we must excute the plan in a span of three seconds.”

“Three seconds?! Are you out of your mind? That's nearly impossible.” said Rokoro.

But Asuka had more faith in her big brother than the other two.

“But i think Arata has a point, let's try it.”

They were now more determined than ever, now or never, they couldn't lose Taio, the boy that they believed would change inside the zone and also their fate.

Taio opened his eyes all of a sudden, but those eyes weren't his anymore.

Those gem-like green eyes now turned into a color as red as blood.

“Taio...his appearance is changing?!” Rokoro was shocked by what he was witnessing.

“Just who the hell this boy is?!” Toma in other hand was slowly starting to become suspecious of Taio instead.

“We don't have time for this so let me explain the plan first.” said Arima.

***

Arima explained his plan and for that solution, all of them had to participate in some ways for it to work.

That outcast brought out Taio's round-like mark on his forhead and it was finally shown to those that couldn't even sense the mark's mana pulses.

“Toma, Rokoro now.” Said Arima.

Rokoro and Toma started to run toward Taio but that outcast noticed them immaditually, his left hand was full with Taio and he couldn't just let go of it because he was in the middle of processing something in Taio's body so he used his right hand that was empty.

“Liosurs”

After that outcast said that unknown spell, both Toma and Rokoro's bodies froze.

“I...I can't move.” said Toma.

Our plan...we're done for...It's so over.

All Rokoro and Toma could think was their failed attempt.

In the middle of hopelessness Arima appearad out of nowhere and cut off that outcast's hands in a span of a second.

Taio fell on the ground because that outcast's focus was cut off from Taio's but Rokoro and Toma were still under his spell.

They were all shocked by what they were witnessing but they didn't have time for this, they knew they had to trust Arima and follow his plan.

“Asuka!” Arima called his sister as if he was demanding her to do something.

“I'm here.”

She grabbed Rokoro's frozen hand and moved his frozen body towards Taio's.

“Rokoro, Now.”

Rokoro finally understood how the plan was going to work.

Rokoro was a teleportic mana user, he could teleport all over the zone but he never used it for someone else so the plan was either a complete sucess or a complete loss.

He was thinking that all the burden was on him so he had no choice but to try it.

Rokoro touched the tips of Taio's messy white hair, his mana started to take effect on both of them, Taio and Rokoro were surronded by a light that was manifested through his teleportic magic, then both of them disappeared into thin air.

And before they completely teleport Rokoro saw how that outcast started to repair it's arms and hands and he knew by teleporting Taio, he made him so mad.

After that outcast witnessed the teleportion, started to shout out loud while holding his head towards the sky.

“DELORD.”

was simply the one word that outcast yelled out loud.

Arima, Asuka and Toma were left behind looking at that outcast with their mouth open, what was especially surprising to them was the fact that the outcast was able to repair it's arms as if they weren't cut off just a moment ago.

“Now what? What are we supposed to do? This thing doesn't even die.” Toma was stressfully holding his face and sweating out of fear.

“Don't worry now that Rokoro's teleport magic worked on Taio, he's coming back to take us as well.” Arima answered Toma and he sounded rather calm.

That outcast turned around and looked at those three with a threatful stare.

“Oops. Great, now what?”

Arima took a look at Asuka, the one that said that sentence frustratingly, waiting for Arima's next plan just as much as Toma did.

That outcast started to run towards the three of them with a crazy speed.

“It's coming for us now.” said Toma.

“For now let's run towards different directions.” Said Arima and started to run immaditually.

Asuka and Toma also ran towards different directions but the outcast followed Toma's direction.

“Damn, why is it after me, i'm literally the weakest. go after those two.”

Arima was using a shortcut to get to where Toma and that outcast were running to.

Then he freed his mana and made a fishing net out of it and threw it perfectly at the right place and trapped that outcast in the net.

Now Toma had more time to create more distance and get away from that outcast's dangerous zone.

“Heh, you're trapped like a mouse huh? As expected from Sir Arima Arata.” Toma was enjoying his little win until the outcast destroyed the mana-made-net in less than a few seconds.

“For real?”

“Don't be surprised Toma, that was expected, i just wanted to buy a short time because Rokoro is probably back there.” Arima tried to calm Toma down and buy a little more time until Rokoro comes back.

“Hey guys, this way...This path leads us to where Rokoro just teleported with Taio, he's probably back there and is waiting for us.” Asuka was the kind of mana user that could see the trace of zoners' footprint.

All of them arrived at the location that Rokoro teleported with Taio and there was little to no time left for them before that outcast caught up to them.

“Hey Rokoro hurry up...” Arima's voice slowly faded.

Rokoro wasn't there even though enough time passed for him to come back.

“Where the hell is he?!” Toma's eyes were spinning around to find Rokoro but he was nowhere to be found.

Arima already realised that something could be off so he tried to explain the situation without making Asuka and Toma panic.

“You guys, make this outcast entertained i'm going after Rokoro.”

“Arata...What do you mean? Do you think something happened to Taio?!”

“Actually i think something might have happened to Rokoro.”

Arima started running towards their villa and left his sister and Toma there but not out of carelessness because he had faith in them and knew they'd survive even in the worse situations than the one they were in.

“Asuka, now what?!” Toma asked nervously.

“Better, Now that Arata's not around i'm gonna use my full potential.” after Asuka said this she brought out a big weapon with her mana, something that she usually didn't use unless she gets real serious.

***

Taio and Rokoro successfully teleported outside their villa but Taio's condition looked abnormal, he was unconscious before teleporting but after they arrived there he gained his consciousness back but it didn't look like that was the usual Taio that Rokoro had known.

“Taio...are you okay?!”

Rokoro was asking questions to make sure the person in front of him was still the same Taio because Taio's appearance had changed slightly, having his hair turn into a color as white as snow and his eyes' color into a light red so it was quite risky to Rokoro to still assume that's the same person.

“Where is your scar? It...disappeared?!”

Rokoro also realised Taio's scars and injuries were nowhere to be found, It was as if he was never injured in the first place.

“How's this possible?!”

Then Rokoro remembered how that outcast repaired his arms back instantly and thought to himself that Taio was somehow doing the same thing, repairing his scars and healing them completely just like that outcast.

“Who...Just Who are you?!”

Taio used the same posture that outcast used when he froze Toma and Rokoro back there, with one hand he grabbed Rokoro's neck from afar, lifted him up without even touching him and with so much strengh that Rokoro had never imagined, he made Rokoro floating in the air and made him suffocate slowly using his mana around his neck.

Rokoro couldn't do anything, that mana power was incomparable to his and still he was trying his best not to get choked like that so he freed some of his mana to make a magic shield around his neck but unfortunately it wasn't enough to neutralize the magic Taio was using.

“Taio...ugh...please....”

Rokoro was slowly losing consciousness but he could hear what Taio told him in his last moments.

“Taio you say?! That boy is long gone.”
