Everything was going smoothly for the upper floors, many of the rescued were waking up from their Metamorphosis and for the first time many of the wakers were able to use their abilities freely and control them, not needing constraints, giving Dr. Ren hope for a better future for her patients.
With bright eyes and a heart filled with hope, Dr. Ren approached Helen asking her for the report on 'level 13' Helen who had just been there, noticed the sparkle in Dr. Ren' eyes and decided to change her report to a white lie, "They're doing fine their vitals are getting stronger, they could be the first one's to wake-up even after being sent there" Helen spoke blocking out her true emotions, feeling bleak for the poor souls she just left back there, but she couldn't break such a news to her starry eyed sister, whom she had seen this happy after ages....
Everything was looking better on the higher floors, nobody could have even guessed what would happen to them in just a few minutes.

As the shadows spread from Regina nothing could contain them, every crevasse came to life as the radiation affected the shadows so did the shadows affect the other shadows bringing them to life sharing one consciousness growing in size and strength enveloping everything that would dare to come in contact with them, each beating heart was being hunted as a predator would a prey, not harmed nor hurt, only enveloped in the shroud of darkness unleashed upon the Facility by one of their own patients, no being was safe from the shadows darkness, as they rose the people fell within them, no matter how strong or meek may the heart beat, if it had the ability to beat, it was something that could potentially harm or endanger their mistress Regina.
Unaware of this, Regina was only trying to make sense of her situation and her surroundings, but her emotions were being misinterpreted by the very shadows that were created by the radiation to protect her. Within minutes the entire Facility was covered in shadows, each and every strand of light was snuffed out, the only light that was still present was from the electronic equipment, but even their light would be contained to a few inches, everybody was blinded by the shadows, and slowly but surely all the light emitting equipment was gathered to Regina to comfort her with their soft glow. The whole space looked like it was taken out a mix of batman and conjuring, each person was isolated into their own section within the shadows. Before anyone could even process what was happening they were put to sleep by the shadows.....

Now i know what your thinking, how can a bunch of sentient shadows put people to sleep right?
well the answer to that question comes from a very old time in history, especially before mankind invented fire. Back then, our kind relied on the sun for light, and as such we would stop moving or go to sleep with the sun itself. i again know what your thinking, what about the night watch guys, well before fire was invented we didn't really have much of a night watch system, which is why our ancestors lived in closed off caves, far away from the mainlands, because they didn't dare take a chance on their safety. Now that you understand that, know this that there are still people in the world who practice waking and sleeping with the sun, such a habit which was crucial to our survival was passed down to us even after all these ages and generations we still carry that habit. So when a human body experiences true darkness and safety, our bodies natural reaction to it is to fall asleep. And that is exactly what the shadows provided to everyone present within the bounds of the Facility. 
The only people left awake were some of the medical staff from the Facility, Because they were the only ones experienced enough to stay awake for more than 72 hours and still stay sane....they were trained to, nobody is actually insane to have a habit of staying up for several days and since they were trained, their minds were sharper even without any sleep.

The reason i say they were awake for 72 hours is because during this time, the doctors were the only ones awake to witness the life draining tendrils arrive and vanish, explaining the spooky stories about the special 3 and their haunter, the tendrils were another creation of Regina' mind created to bring her sustenance and keep her vitality up. This ability was developed on a whimsy wish Regina has had since she was a child not having to eat and still stay strong was a whim she developed from not liking her interactions with her family during mealtimes, a whim turned into a wish and that very wish was materialized into energy tendrils. 
It were these tendrils that would drain the approaching staff members and the presence they leaked was similar to that of a wolf mid-hunt. Menacing, hungry, focused, and mostly importantly of all powerful.
The 72 hours spent within the darkness were some of the most comforting hours anyone would have ever spent in their whole lives, the shadows didn't just evelop one within themselves but also kept them comfortable, but most importantly alive. But as humans we can't stay still, nor can our bodies, and our desire to experience the expanse of the world and expenditure of time was something we were built to experience, was starting to beacon the ones within the shadows bound their nature calling them towards the light.

From here you will come to know what transpired during those 72 hours that we spent inside the shadows and what exactly lead to my awakening, well not complete awakening but to an extent.

Immediately after being swallowed by Regina's shadows, everyone was panicking but were also being soothed to sleep, the only ones who resisted this sooth were the medical staff, to be specific it was Dr. Ren's team all of whom she had hand picked for their skills and achievements within the army's medical corp. Since they were picked by her they were meant to stay right next to her at all times, exactly as Helen did. Now these people were trained to stay awake in the harshest of conditions and yet function at full capacity with as little rest as possible, and right now this group was the only one who had managed to stay focused and awake, for the next 72 hours to come, at first nobody had a clue as to what happened, in order to figure out what was going out they had to perform some experiments to check the consistency and potency of the substances that were surrounding them.
Now you may ask how can one check the consistency of a shadow? easy.... tease it.
I know not what you expected, but in our world, had become common knowledge among the MET's, if you want to know what the abilities user is like, tease the ability with its exact opposite ability in nature, which in this case was any ability that glowed. So naturally all eyes turned to Dr.Ren the one with glowing healing tendrils as her ability, was the obvious choice. But keep in mind no one knows how the teased ability will react, so this was just as risky as shoving your hand in the maw of a sleeping lion.
