13 Not alone…

13 Not alone…

Aug 05, 2025

As the ship carrying Xiao, Mei, Georges, Katya, and their humanoids, along with other humans and humanoids, was preparing to enter Sinesol’s atmosphere, Georges asked:
- By the way, how are we sure this planet is safe for us?
- Bit late to be asking that now, no? Katya said jokingly.
- Previous communities left several probes still transmitting, so we know not only that the atmosphere is tolerable for humans, but also that there are resources here we don’t have on Earth that help us move faster, Xiao explained.
- Well, that’s a relief, Georges said with a smile.

The ship passed through Sinesol’s clouds, and the group, seated near the portholes, marveled at the ground below, swaths of red and purple tones that gave the planet its distinctive colors from space.
Just before the ship landed near a probe sent by a previous community, Katya said:
- It’s stunning. I can’t wait to set foot on it.
- Me too, Mei said, under the affectionate gaze of her mother.

The ship’s commander then said:
- As stated by the Community Director, we will stop for four hours. For safety reasons, please return in three hours. An alert has been scheduled on your neural chips to ensure this. No meteor showers are expected. Air-jets and flying Rovers are available for those interested. Enjoy your visit.
- Mom, can we take Air-jets please? Mei asked.
- Yes, alright, Xiao replied.
- Shall we take a Rover? Georges asked. Katya nodded.

Each pair boarded the vehicle of their choice, and when the large ship doors opened, the engines propelled them forward into planetary exploration.
Each group of individuals headed in a different direction, and our four friends, accompanied by their two respective humanoids, stayed together, with Mei leading the little group.
- Don’t go too fast, Mei, called Xiao.
- Okay, Mom, Mei replied.

After flying for about twenty minutes, Katya said:
- It’s really beautiful. The ground isn’t dry, probably thanks to the atmosphere. And there’s such a variety of vegetation, but I don’t see any sign of life.
- Yeah, the fact that the planet has no sun and is drifting doesn’t help, Georges replied.
- If there’s no sun, where does the light come from? Mei asked innocently.
- There must be a strong magnetic field causing interactions with cosmic particles, like auroras, Xiao explained.
- Can we stop at some point to set foot on the ground? Katya asked.
- Can we just go check out that cave over there? Mei replied, pointing at a cavern ahead.
- Okay, Katya said.

Arriving at the cave entrance, the group slowed down and entered more cautiously, headlights on full power. Bioluminescent flora and crystals on the walls illuminated the space, offering a magical display for the four humans. They dimmed their lights to take in the view, and there, between two crystal columns, they glimpsed a brighter light at the far end, white, almost artificial, seemingly from a source shining independently of the rest of the surroundings.
- Let’s go see what it is, Georges suggested.
- Let’s be careful, Katya said.
- Yes, I’ve also sent our location to the ship’s commander.

The further they went into the cave, the wider and taller it grew. Suddenly Xiao said:
- Did you all feel that?
- Yes, the others replied.
- Like the air changed all of a sudden, Katya said.

The air seemed lighter, warmer, like another atmosphere existed inside the planet. After walking several kilometers, they arrived in an immense clearing with vegetation present but not overwhelming, as if an invisible hand had maintained it.
- Let’s get out and walk, proposed Katya.

They all disembarked from their vehicles, marveling at the illuminated landscape. Their attention was drawn to a kind of lake where the light reflected.
- It’s truly breathtaking, Katya said.
- Yeah, absolutely incredible, Georges replied.
- Our equipment says the air is breathable, Xiao said.
- Oh, so can we take off our helmets? Mei asked.

Before Xiao had time to respond, a voice behind them confirmed:
- Yes, you can.

The four friends turned around in shock.
