CHAPTER 2 (WHOLE)

CHAPTER 2 (WHOLE)

Aug 10, 2025

(Narrator): "Ahem… Ughhh… Mic check… one, two, three. Hey there, readers! I'm Rofus, Gio's best best friend, and from now on I'm going to be the narrator of this story because Gio is currently on a family vacation. Can you believe they left me here all alone? The nerve! Anyway, let’s get into it.

Ahem… After that big, scary ship disappeared, some people started to cry while others tried to swim away. Gio, bless his little heart, was still stuck on what that crazy Jaguar said about there being some huts in the forest—the same forest covered in traps and landmines.

Gio: "What do I do? If I stay here any longer, the tide might catch up. The sea level keeps rising, and it’s rapidly eating the shore. The best option is to run toward the huts in the forest, but it’s covered with traps and…"

A boy next to him suddenly spoke up.

Boy: "Hey! What are you doing pacing around? Come on, let's go to the huts!"

Gio: "But there are a lot of traps there…"

Boy: "Don’t worry about that. A lot of people are already running toward that area. They might set the traps for us, and then we'll be safe."

Gio: "What?"

Boy: "Kill or be killed… That's what Jaguar said. I'm picking you to survive with because you look like you know what you're doing!"

Gio and the boy then ran deep into the forest. Terrifying screams echoed across the island as people began to realize the true horror of their situation. While running deeper, they witnessed dead bodies impaled on sharpened stakes scattered around the trees. People screaming for help and crying, people who had fallen into booby traps begging to be killed.

Panting, Gio felt a cold sensation as a few tears fell from his eyes. He wasn't crying because of pain, but from the raw horror he was witnessing. The boy suddenly stopped running, sensing Gio's overwhelming dread. He slapped Gio so hard his face went pale with shock.

Boy: "Stop whining like a kid! This is our life now. We need to use anything we can to survive this nightmare. I'm scared too, but I can't do anything about that. So, keep yourself together. Let's survive this together—I've got your back, and I'll trust you with mine."

Gio felt the genuineness of the boy’s words and nodded. They kept running until they reached a cleared area with no trees or grass, just clean earth.
Boy: "Something feels off… Let's wait until others get here."

They hid behind a tree, waiting for others to run toward the cleared area. Just then, a loud explosion rocked the ground. It was a landmine field, and anyone who crossed it would trigger the mines and be blown to pieces. After the initial blast, Gio and the boy followed the newly created path, hoping no other mines were left.

Boy: "Let's go! Be careful, only walk in the exploded paths. I’m pretty sure there are no more landmines there. Let's go to the…"

That was when they thought they had escaped that nightmare. But just then, another survivor, panicked and running aimlessly, darted past them. Gio and the boy barely had time to register him before a deafening bang and a blinding flash of light erupted behind them. The ground lurched, and a searing wave of heat and force slammed into their backs, sending them both flying through the air…

Ears ringing and bleeding, Gio tried his best to stay conscious. But the impact of the explosion was too much. He could only watch as the boy who helped him through the nightmare bled and coughed, before falling unconscious. Unable to hold on any longer, Gio lost consciousness and fell into a deep sleep.

A warm, familiar place… home. Gio was finally home. The sun was rising, and the air was filled with the sounds of birds singing and bees buzzing around a garden full of blooming flowers. The smell of the blossoms was comforting and real.

Suddenly, a voice—a familiar yet unfamiliar feeling—called to him. His eyes widened, and his heart pounded so fast he could hear it. A single tear fell, and he began to cry, though he didn't know why. His body moved uncontrollably, and he found himself hugging the person in front of him. A sweet voice, that of an old woman, echoed softly, "Gio, why are you crying? It's okay na, lola is here na, tahan na apo."

After hearing such comforting words, Gio burst into sobs.

"Hiccup… lola! I had a bad, bad dream," he sobbed.

"Oh, my poor Gio. Tahan na apo, lola is here, okay? Everything is going to be okay na, ha? And your friend is waiting for you outside to play," his grandmother said.

"Hmm? Friend?" Gio asked.

"Yes. Luna is waiting for you."

Gio woke up just before he could see Luna. When he did, he quickly realized that it wasn't just a bad dream, but a brutal and harsh reality he was in. He got up and, without hesitation, carried the bloodied boy on his back. He knew that one mistake could end both of their lives, so he carefully ran along the paths where the landmines had already exploded. He ran and ran until he reached the huts.

There were already some survivors who had made it there. They escorted Gio inside one of the huts, where he found supplies: a first-aid kit, food, medicine, drinkable water, and clothes.

Now that Gio and the boy were safe inside a hut, Gio could finally breathe. But even with the temporary reprieve, the lingering cries of people, the distant explosions, and the soul-shredding screams of those caught in traps echoed around the area. It felt like a true hell, a war where no one knew who the enemy was or where it came from.

While trying to formulate a plan for tomorrow, a name suddenly lingered in his mind: "Luna." Who was she? Where did that dream come from? And what about the faceless girl? Gio's worried expression caught the attention of a nearby girl.

Just then, Gio decided to change out of his torn shirt and clean himself. But as he did, he noticed a large, open wound in his chest. A thick branch of a tree was impaled right through it. Confused, he tried to pull it out. Instead of pain, he felt a great heat in his chest, as if his skin were burning. He stopped for a moment, took a deep breath, and tried again.

Suddenly, a girl burst through the door without knocking. "Hey, here are some clothes you can wear."

Startled, Gio shouted, "HEY! Knock before you enter! Do you have any manners?!"

The girl, looking annoyed, shot back, "Hey, what did you think this was, your own house?" She then noticed the impaled stick in Gio's chest. "Hey! What is that?!"

Gio, in a sarcastic tone, replied, "Can't you see? A stick stabbed me in the chest. Are you blind or something?"

"Of course I can see! How do you think I survived that hell, huh?!"

After that heated exchange, the girl helped Gio pull the branch from his chest. As the wound bled, she noticed that he didn't flinch or show any reaction to the injury. She then bandaged his chest and disinfected the wound.

"Here, clothes and water. Your chest has stopped bleeding, so you can rest now. I'll go back to my hut. My name is Eve," she said.

"Thank you. Please be careful outside," Gio replied.

Gio can only replied "thank you" well I guess talking to a girl could be scarier than hell sometimes, anyways, after Eve left, Gio layed down looking at the moon and whispers the name "Luna". My boy here is loyal, he didn't even know who Luna is but his loyal to her... hehe

Heh heh… I'm pretty sure you're gonna love this part.

Ahem… Anyway, after Gio lay down, despite the eerie atmosphere and noises outside the hut, he fell fast asleep—what a heavy sleeper! He dreamt again of the girl, but this time, her face was visible, though still blurry.

“Gio… Let’s play! What do you want to play this time? We can’t play tag; my father will be mad if my clothes get dirty,” she chuckled.

“L-Luna…” Gio replied nervously.

She turned to him. “Hmm? You know me! Finally, Gio. I thought you didn’t love me anymore, pretending not to recognize me.”

Shocked and confused, Gio asked, “Love? I love you?”

“Hmph, you told me, didn’t you? You love me, but I said we couldn’t because we’re too young, and Papa would be angry.”  She leaned close, her face flushed, and kissed his cheek. “Remember your promise?”

“Huh? Promise?”

She hugged him. “Yes, your promise, but I won’t tell you,” she chuckled.

“Wait, I don’t remember! Please tell me!” Gio insisted.

“Hmph, I don’t want to… You’re always like that; you always forget things, especially your promises,” she replied, hugging him tighter.

Our little Gio confused... But, he feels extremely comfortable while Lunas hugging him. So he hugged her back, "So soft and warm, I like this feeling. I wish I can stay a little bit longer hugging her feels like it heals me. She smells like... Cheese!?" Gio then wakes up hugging a cat... Guess who's that cat is... Hehe.

You guessed it! I'm the cat.  Meow. Whisker twitch. Wanna know how I ended up on this crazy island?  Fine, I'll tell you.  It all started when I was a scrawny kitten—a seriously scrawny kitten.  I lived in a Philippine harbor, scavenging scraps from overflowing trash bins.  Heaven for cats, it wasn't.  Those stray dogs were the worst—absolute trash pandas.  They'd steal my hard-earned fish heads.  I'd dream of a cat-only paradise, but fate, it seems, had other plans.

One day, starvation hit me hard.  I collapsed, smelling what I thought was cat heaven—pure, unadulterated tuna.  Followed the scent, right onto a ship.  Honestly, I barely noticed the crying, tied-up humans at first; my stomach was screaming louder than they were.  My nose led me to a tuna buffet—a feast fit for a king, or at least, a very hungry cat.  I stuffed myself silly until I couldn't move.  Then, the ship started moving.  The humans?  Completely forgotten.  Tuna first, rescues later.  I promptly passed out.

Woke up to the ship stopping, a whole bunch of humans kneeling—probably worshipping me, if you ask me—and then I saw him, that kid, sprinting toward the forest.  Hooded guy cut him off fast.  The forest?  Interesting.  I followed—my superior feline senses tingling, picking up the scent of danger (and maybe a rat or two).  Those traps?  Child's play for a cat like me.  I’m practically a ninja.

Found this strange clear patch of earth—weird smell, but whatever—then, BAM!  Explosion.  Chaos.  Screaming.  I hid under a hut, nice and safe.  It got cold, so I went hunting for a new sleeping spot.  Found a hut with two humans snoozing.  One smelled strongly of tuna.  Perfect.  I curled up next to him, but then… the kid started hugging me.  Tight hug.  Tuna-scented kid, muttering about "Luna" and "promises"—weird stuff.  Slept like a log until he woke up.

And that, my friends, is my thrilling tale.  My epic adventure.  Don’t even get me started on what happened after I escaped from his tuna-scented grip.
