For this week's update, we visit sketches of the Dark Army of the Solanai. This order of ether-powered warriors specializes in light magic, using their skills with suppressing light to gain advantages on the battlefield.
To start, here's a sample of custom plate armor worn by a Solanai warrior. Dark, spiky plates are intimidating to opposing forces, compounding the fear effects that spread among enemy soliders. Sharp spikes on the armor edges discourage enemies from getting too close, and Solanai are trained to use any edged surfaces to their advantage in melee combat. A shirt or hood of ring maille is often worn underneath the plates, along with a padded gambeson for extra protection.
Ranked officers among the Solanai have custom livery to designate their standing. A chained collar with a custom pendant/clasp displays an officer's rank at a distance, preventing Solanai from mistaking each other's place in a unit.
The highest-ranked generals have an octagonal platinum pendant with a jeweled core, with subsequent officers garnering a smaller, less-segmented pendant as they go down in rank. The lowest-ranked Solanai that receive a livery collar are lieutenants, with a triangular steel pendant without a jewel or enamel inlay.
Lieutenant Mevralls has one such collar, turning in his jeweled pin for the triangular pendant on a steel chain. Major Barshaw's livery is a copper pentagonal pendant with a vivid-blue enamel core. It clinks like music when the collar claps against her armor, giving her subordinates an idea of her position, even within a shroud of darkness.
Next up are training uniforms, used for sparring, maneuvers, and for use in the training circle. There are three classes of Solanai in the order, and each has their own uniform for training. The three classes include Hunter, Brute, and Sentry. These uniforms include clothing for the Hunter-class, which Lieutenant Mevralls and Major Barshaw both belong to. When she chooses a class to pursue, Khazmine will also receive a uniform as an initiate.
Hunter's uniforms consist of a long-sleeved, hooded bolero jacket, a sleeveless halter-neck shirt with an integrated gaiter, an armored corset wrap, and skin-tight pants and boots. Gloves and weapons are optional, though most Solanai do provide their own to train in. Tazanni Barshaw's shirt includes extra vents on the front for attaching an optional cape, though she seldom uses that combination.
For her armor, Major Barshaw has custom-made plate armor, a long, black surcoat, and her major-ranked livery. Because of her large frame, the major had custom armor made, with additional spikes and razor edges for combat applications and intimidation. And lastly, we have the dread major in her training uniform, on her way to deliver a serious beat-down in the training circle.
